Boett43 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Anyone ever fished Piney Run Resivor? Also anyone that can get to the Dickerson Area the water levels are back to normal As of The 26th of May and the Post Spawn Bite is on Pretty Good Bass are busting shad on top all over the shallows and espcially where the water discharge is at the point of the the little island near the discharge area. Also in the clear areas of the Canal ive seen quite a few 3-4 pounders crusing around. Just a heads up Quote
basser89 Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Thanks for the heads up Boett! I fished the C&O canal at Williamsport on and off last week on vacation. I was there yesterday afternoon before the rain came in. I checked out the Potomac and it was MUDDY!!!! When I checked the river gauge last evening, the river was on its way back up. We'll have to wait to see how far up it comes. Actually, I hope it comes up pretty good! I have a spot or two I hit from shore that produce really well for me when it gets up super high! ;D Welcome to THE boards warwickforlife! Quote
basser89 Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Since Boett was nice enough to post a short report here, I will too. Popped over to Black Hills at lunch today. WOW! Talk about chocolate milk! I hit the backwash area down by the boat ramp and managed 2 today. A dink and a nice 3 pounder. Caught them both on a chart spinnerbait w/chart blades and burned it past the stumps and laydowns. Had a good little reaction bite going on until it was time to head back to work. Â Quote
Boett43 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Basser ive seen some of your pics, you seem to have a ton of luck right near the boat ramp, is that one of your more productive areas at black hill? Also i meant as of the 25th i was down at dickerson on Monday, but who knows what its like with the rain we got down here today. Quote

Also i meant as of the 25th i was down at dickerson on Monday, but who knows what its like with the rain we got down here today. Mostly numbers down by the boat ramp Boett. I've managed a couple of 4 pounders but that's about the biggest bass I've caught in that area. A few years ago, I used to get into the musky in that area too (some BIG ones too) but only landed a few of them. The bass in my avatar and the two book ends in my signature came from the stick ups area. That's usually where I get my bigger bass out of Black Hills. Although I have seen a few monster bass holding by the tubes on the main lake side but haven't hooked into any of those, YET! Â Quote
Boett43 Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Basser whens the last time you went to black hill? Im thinking about going up there sunday my Only day off this week haha, just dont wanna go if its muddy. Any one fished Piney Run Resivior latley? Quote
basser89 Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 Hey Boett, I was just at Black Hills today at lunch (no luck). I was fishing the back wash area again and it was pretty stained. The main lake down by the ramp had a good color to it though. The water seems to be up about 6-12". If we don't get a ton of rain this week, I'd say you'll be fine. Can't help with Pine Run, it's been WAY too long since I've fished there! Quote
Boett43 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Yeah i was there on sunday the last day of may, the backwater looked pretty bad fished aroound the rock wall for awhile saw a guy get a nice 3 pounders, then i went back to where the dog park is and i got 2 like 11-12 inchers they were up real shallow so i got to sight fish for them though wich was fun, they seemed like they were post spawn eatting saw quit a few busting on top too Quote
BornXEyed Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hey gang, Good to be back on here. Been a busy spring, mostly working on my boat restoration, which is an old alum starcraft jon. Stripping, sanding, priming, painting, the works; trailer too. I hope to post pics soon. Can't wait to hit bigger water like Loch Raven. Been mostly hitting small ponds after work, such as Annapolis Waterworks Park and Patuxent River Park. Mostly catching dinks. Anyway, just checking in to say hi and looking forward to sharing reports this summer. Cheers. Quote
wifisherman Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hello everyone  My wife and I fished loch raven this last weekend, sunday I believe it was. it was up in the 80's i believe. The only thing we caught was a small northern on a spinner while trolling. Does anyone have any good areas for there? we fished the points and over by the bridge and we got nothing. Quote

Just a heads up Boett, I am fairly new to fishing in Frederick and have had several people recommend fishing in Dickerson. I hope I'm not being too nosey (if so, just tell me), but where in Dickerson are some good spots to hit. I am generally familair with the area, although not intimately so. Thanks for any help you can give me. Quote
basser89 Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Welcome to THE boards VAfisherinMD! Are you familiar on how to get to Dickerson? If you need exact directions, let us know and we'll get you hooked up! The spots that Boett is referring to are the C&O canal and the warm water discharge area for the power plant. For me, I typically don't fish the warm water area after it starts warming up in the spring (love fising the in the winter!). I really just started fishing the canal this year (I've only half heartedly fished it in the past a handful of times). But there are plenty of bassy looking areas all through the canal (stumps, laydowns and plenty of grass)! Quote

I am familiar with Dickerson, just not exactly where the good spots are. Even though now may not be a good time to fish the warm water discharge area, where is that? The C&O Canal is off of Mouth of Monocacy Road if I remember correctly, right? Thanks for the response to my post. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 VAfisherinMD, there is an area of the canal on  Mouth of Monocacy road but its not the one everyone is referring to. There is another area off of Martinsburg Road which is about a mile south on Rt. 28. Once you get to the parking lot the canal is directly in front of the parking lot, to get to the discharge either take a right on the canal path and walk for about 3/4 mile there is a sign on a tree and a path down to the river. Or you can walk straight to the river and then turn left. This way you can fish you way up, but be careful if its muddy gets slippery real quick. If you want more better directions to the other parking lot send me a personal message and I will let you know. Quote

I hate to be asking so many "dumb" questions, but I want to go to the right spots since I haven't fished the area before. I think I know where you are talking about, but if not, I am sure I can find it. Quote

basser89 Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 VAfisherinMD, Since you're new to the Frederick area, there's also a pond over in Middletown that I fish for bass from time to time. There's some decent sized largemouth in there too! Thought I'd throw that out there for you too. Quote

wifisherman Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hello everyone, Â Â There is a lake by my apartment in Laurel. Now people and the website say that this lake is filled with largies, catfish and smaller perch. My wife caught a rainbow trout on a bobber with a worm, and trout are not even on the list. Now my question is where will the bass be? There are certain areas where the catfish are just all over. will the bass be in the same spot, or in a different area? there is not alot of coverage in the lake, and it is only shore fishing no boats allowed. Wasn't sure how much of the thread you may have checked out. I was there a couple days ago. The upper end of the pond had a TON of slop floating on the top and the grass can make it a challenge but it can be a rewarding place to fish. I've been told, never saw, there have been 6lb plus largemouths caught in there. My biggest out of there is 4 1/2lbs. As I've told others, if you happen to see me out, be sure to stop and say hi! Boett43 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 VAFISH...As for fishing the river down at dickerson, i actually always have pretty good luck fishing at the warm water dischare year round, they havent been letting out water latley so that helps, i hear some of the pipes are broke. Other than that if you are walking along the river and get to a spot where it becomes like 8-10 feet down to the water keep walkin untill you see a little spot that goes down and there should be a big brush pile about 15 feet out, ive cuaght two 3+lb smallmouth out of there just also look for a fallen tree in the water where it dams up the river always catch a bass there it seems lol Sorry for the long post just look for damed up areas and dont be afriad to cast out deep alot of crusing fish down there it seems ..Im done  ;D Quote
wifisherman Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 How long do you fish a spot before you give up and move to the next one? :-? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 4, 2009 Super User Posted June 4, 2009 Wow, tough question wifisherman. For me it depends on what I am seeing/feeling while I am at the spot. If I don't get any fish but see good cover or see fish cruising around I will stay there and try different presentations. If I don't see anything positive I will move after about 15-20 minutes. Quote

Long day no bites. only caught a northern and that was while trolling Quote
