basser89 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Brian and I fished "the tubes" down by the boat ramp last evening at Black Hills. No takers but did see some bluegill swimming around the rip rap. The backwash area was pretty bad but still saw some baitfish on that side too. Main lake side was definitely better. Threw some jerkbaits, jigs and plastics at them between the two of us. Thanks for the invite Brian, always a good time fishing with you! Quote
Fat Boy Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hey folks. I'm a newbie to this site, just "found" it today searching the net for boat info. Looks good and will contribute from now on. I live in Boyds and fish anywhere within a days drive for anything that is willing to bite. My heart is in bass fishing though. I haven't been out yet this year. The last time I fished was through the ice in PA before Christmas. I was in an auto accident in January that cut my ice season short and am still recovering from that, so when I heal up and get back into the swing, I'll post reports here. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 11, 2011 Super User Posted March 11, 2011 Welcome Fat Boy, always good to have a new Maryland guy especially one around the corner from me. I live in Germantown, part of a local bass club and try to get out fishing as much as possible. Quote
basser89 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Welcome to THE boards Fat Boy! I work in Germantown so get to fish Black Hills from time to time (typically lunchtime excursions). Sorry to hear about the auto accident! Heal up soon so you can wet some lines! Those big girls in Black Hills should be waking up real soon! Oh, just a side note on the condition of the Potomac right now. The river gauge I track has the river over 16' above "normal flow". Last look had the gauge I follow at 20.25' and still rising. If memory serves me right, its now up to the levels of the "big flood" last year. Think that one peaked at 21-22'. Will have to get some pictures IF its safe to get to Dam 4 again. Won't attempt that same trip I made last year to get the pictures! Quote
basser89 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Was a little off on the levels for last year. It was almost 26'. Here's the thread that I posted last year. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1268605132 Quote
wv Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I just got my resident licenses for me and my son yesterday. Maybe we can get out today somewhere in WV. Potomac is out of the question. On way home from work yesterday I crossed the Williamsport Bridge and river was high and rolling. I also welcome Fat Boy. You have joined a great board with really great people on here. With the price of gas not sure about getting our non-res licenses for Maryland like last year although we really enjoyed the area ponds and would like to have fished the Antietam Creek as well. I got a beef with WV now because I was charged an adult fee for my 15 year old son. It's only a couple dollars difference so I guess no big deal. Quote
basser89 Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Got out this morning for about an hour. Mainly just trying out the new spinnerbait rod I got last week. Hit the C&O in Williamsport. No takers but actually rememebered my thermometer! Left it in the water for about 20-25 minutes and got a temp reading of 51-52! Say hello spinnerbait time in there! ;D ;D ;D I'm really gonna like this new rod! Was slow rolling a spinnerbait in there and could feel everything. Was more than time for an upgrade!!! Quote
JigMe Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 went out this morning as well to Centennial lake in howard county, picked up few bass less than 10 inches. I guess the larger bass are still holding out in the deeper water, and all bites were on crankbaits 4-6 feet down. Quote
jmh285 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Had a chance to get out to Loch Raven this weekend. Primarily fished two different locations: 1) open shorline to the main body of the reservoir 2) cove The water on the open shoreline was extremely muddy. I threw a fluke, jerkbait and jig - no luck, no even a nibble. The cove, however, was a different story. The water was much clearer and calmer. Ended up catching 3LM (2.5 pounder, 4 pounder and 1.5 pounder). The 4 pounder had black spots on her side from bedding. Good luck gents! Quote
Smiths.R Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I have a question for our Western MD friends. I'm going on vacation right on Deep Creek Lake this summer. Not asking for any honey pots, but where is a good spot on the lake to fish, and do they like anything in particular over there? I've never even been there, let alone fished it. Thanks guys! Thank God it's warming up!! 75 this Friday!!! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 16, 2011 Super User Posted March 16, 2011 Don't any specific spots but think topwater in the early morning then docks.... Quote
wv Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Got my MD Non-Res license on-line yesterday. My son and I got out to Sharpsburg Pond and Devil's Backbone. Missed one at Sharpsburg. Saw some bass in about 2/3 foot of water. They were chasing smaller fish. Not sure if they are in spawn/pre-spawn mode or not. Devil's Backbone was a bust. Water was too fast. My son did lose what looked to be a decent fish by the bend in his rod on the first cast over in the "private property area that is open due to MD Stocking Program. Also saw some jumpers below dam. Either trout or suckers? :-/ We may try to get out today but I have a Fantasy Baseball draft at 5:00PM. At least we can fish now with our WV and MD licenses. He needs a MD Non-Res on his birthday Thursday. Hopefully he can get a Junior one. WV only offers a discounted "Sportsmen" that combines hunting and fishing and you need to have a Hunter Safety Card. Not sure why you need a Hunter Safety thing to get a fishing discount but either way it's all good. Riveer looked pretty good crossong Rumsey Bridge at Shepherdstown, too. Quote

Thank God it's warming up!! 75 this Friday!!! Deep Creek is either great or the Dead Sea never inbetween for me. Patterns change there so often that is is hard to stay on top of them. That being said my best lures for Deep Creek are green pumkin baby brush hogs and finesse jigs, flukes, chart. cranks if the water is murky and a LC Slender pointer 97mr in ghost minnow for the fall. Last year poppers worked for about the first 1/2 hour of light then shad colored worms during the day but that was in September. Allen Quote

basser89 Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Made it out saturday morning for a few hours. I hit Union Bridge Municipal Reservoir. First time hitting that place. DNR reports indicated there was a decent bass population in there. Water temps read 56. Had 2 hits on a jerkbait but didn't get a hook in either. I FINALLY got the monkey off my back though! Managed a decent one on a spinnerbait about 9:30 saturday morning. Found her on an isolated laydown out off a point. Quote

Cunnigham Falls and Greenbrier are two small lakes you can fish from shore or a small boat. Blairs Valley as well but the wind really blows hard there at times. The only concern with these places is they starting stocking trout. Trout anglers will be elbow to elbow chucking powerbait along ever inch of shoreline. I took my boat to Greenbrier only once this year for about 4 hours and already had a run in with some of them. Allen Quote
