wv Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 HBM - Wow what a catch/es. Nice fish. I can see why people want to stay away from muskies be it tiger or not. Looks like Black Hills is a great place to fish. My son and I have not been out for about two weeks or so. Maybe now things are cooling off things will get better. We might try and get out today. Congrats again. Quote
MskSlyr Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Great pattern on the tiger, I see them so rarely from Black Hills it is great to see. Quote
Basser714 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Great looking fishes hellbender. I went out and tried my same tactic that landed my 6 a year ago. I tossed out my big worm deep, and got 3 very light very faint bites over the course of an hour, but when I set the hook, they had spat out the goods. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 15, 2010 Super User Posted September 15, 2010 Fishing has been a lot better lately in all the areas I fish. Sunday I will be hitting Rocky Gap and hopefully the fall bite is on. Allen Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 20, 2010 Super User Posted September 20, 2010 Got out with Hellbender on Saturday at Black Hills, fishing was slow for some reason. Thought we would have a good day but ended up with 3 fish total, highlighted by his 5lb 11oz LM. All the fish came on 5in Senko's. Went to the upper Potomac yesterday, launched out of Whites Ferry. Had a pretty good day there. Caught a lot of smallies and panfish. Nothing big but the numbers were good. Most fish were on slider heads, towards the end of the day got into a good popper bite. Quote
wv Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Just an update here. My son and I have been to the Potomac near Shepherdstown, WV 2 times in last few weeks. The river was low and filled with floating green slop. Just a waste of time. Hopefully this rain can get the river up and flowing a little cleaner so we can get out. Would like to keep fishing some and use my MD non-res some more. Also, Basser 89 were you in Williamsport, MD on Tuesday around 3:30PM or did you move away from that area. Quote
basser89 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Also, Basser 89 were you in Williamsport, MD on Tuesday around 3:30PM or did you move away from that area. wv, I work down in Germantown. So no, you didn't see me tuesday. Quote
wv Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Basser89 - OK. Saw someone pulling a boat through light at Sheetz. Thought I would ask anyway. :-[ What do you do in Germantown? Government work? Hope you're fishing has been better than ours the last two months. Quote

Government work? Hope you're fishing has been better than ours the last two months. Hey, never hurts to ask! I would for a telecommunications company as a project manager for the repair department. Sadly, fishing has been REALLY slow for me this year and I haven't had as many opportunities to get out as I have the past couple of years. Hopefully, I'll get back out soon! I have this twitch I need to get rid of and fishing is the only way it'll go away! Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, area, and bass fishing. I went out to violet's lock and got plenty of bites but didnt land anything. They guys I was with got 4 small mouth, well 3 because one go off on a jump. I plan on heading back once the water clears back up. I've been out on black hill twice a week since july and have only landed a little guy from the shore up ten mile creek. Today I went to the dam from the residential area about 3 hours before dark. I didn't get anything but I could see some large fish that seemed to be paroling the shore line. A few followed my worm up but wouldn't bite. I assume that one I don't know what I'm doing, the biggest problem, and two I may be using the wrong bait. I wacky rig a few different worms and also try texas rig. Any suggestions? :-? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 3, 2010 Super User Posted October 3, 2010 Welcome TexasNovice to both BR and Germantown, I also live in Germantown. The Maryland Who's Who has a lot of local information and the main site has a lot of articles and information to help out. I would suggest taking a look thru it. Any questions that come up let me know, will be more than happy to help get you up to speed in Maryland. Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Where is a good place, not to far from Germantown, to get tackle? So far I've found WalMart and Dicks Sporting Good. Is there anywhere else someone would recommend? Quote

Is there anywhere else someone would recommend? Hey TexasNovice, Welcome to THE boards! If you've taken Brian's suggestion and looked back through this thread, you've found a little info about Black Hills (if you've read my posts lately I haven't been out much lately so can't help much there. :-[ The place with the best selection close to you would have to be Dick's. The next best place that I know of would be Bass Pro. But most of my tackle shopping is done on-line at Tackle Warehouse! Oh, I do have one tip for ya! If you meet up with Brian to fish with him, make sure that HE picks the spot that you guys go to! ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 5, 2010 Super User Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks Basser put all the pressure on me... TexasNovice, I am out this weekend, fishing a tourney at Deep Creek. When I get back if you want to meet up just let me know, sure we can figure something out. I don't have a boat so it would be shore fishing though. Quote
basser89 Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks Basser put all the pressure on me... LOL! You should have known that one was coming! All I know is when I pick the place when you pick the place when we go fishing, I catch fish! ;D Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 lol guys... Thanks for in tackle info! Brain when you have time it would be great to meet up. I'm pounding the shoreline too. Since last Friday I've fished every evening at what Basser called the "tubes" in a few posts. I've stuck to the small side with all of the logs, weeds and stuff on the far side of the beaver lodge. I have got at least two bites there each time I've gone, however I cant seem to set the hook. My bait goes flying sideways and I give it a good yank and start reeling in. Usually about half way in the fish is gone. Once my worm was torn in half! I'm changing up my hooks from 2/0 weedless to 3/0 tonight. Hopefully I'll manage something. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 5, 2010 Super User Posted October 5, 2010 I am sure we can figure it out, I will send you a PM when I get back to get some ideas going. Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Well changing the hook sized seemed to do the trick. This is the first "real" bass I've caught! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 6, 2010 Super User Posted October 6, 2010 Excellent!!!! nice bass there TexasNovice Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Well I got 3 more today. One was just a little guy but I included a picture of him because it has a picture of the lure I was using. The other two were caught in the same place only about 10 feet apart. I was back at the tubes at little seneca fishing on the small side with all of the weeds. As I pulled my lure across the nearest edge of the weed line they would strike. I got about +-10 strikes but only landed those two larger ones. Quote
Bwickfisher Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Hey Tex, nice fish. That's a lot better than I've done lately. I've caught one bass in the last week and a half. The river was really high and fast, as well as muddy. Quote
TexasNovice Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Yeah I'm curious about fishing in the Potomac while the water is high and muddy. At work I was told that some people swear this is the best time to fish the river. It just seems next to impossible to me. Does anyone have any suggestions or knowledge to share? :-? Quote
basser89 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Cool deal TexasNovice! I recognize the area you're fishing and had half a idea to try there at lunch today. I call that area dead squirrel. LOL! One of the guys that works for me named it and for some strange reason, it stuck. I did fish "the tubes" today at lunch and managed one dink on a spinnerbait! Spring through early fall I don't mind fishing the high muddy water in the river. Most of the time, I fish it from shore. I'll look for eddies and current breaks and have done well in the past with tubes and stick baits (senko style worms) in those areas. The gauge I track, the level only got about 3' above normal so hit didn't get real high. It's actually back down below normal again. :-/ Hope that helps some! Quote
