Fished Dickerson over the weekend. The plan was to start with a rat in the morning hitting shaded cover then transition to a soft bait as the sun got higher. I got a total of 4 blowups casting the rat tight to cover and deadsticking it with an occasional twitch. Later as the shade line receded I continued to catch by cranking it down and crashing it against limbs like a squarebill. 

 

Overall it was a blast to fish and was very effective at drawing fish of all sizes out of cover.

Hello! Long time on the forums but I took a break as I was bouncing around the country for a bit. Dropped back down into Rockville MD. Haven’t been fishing much  but I’m getting back on the horse, I can tell cause the bait monkey is already swarming. Hit up Little Seneca Lake from the shore for a abysmal day of catching, still better then the 9 to 5. Couldn’t find anything but then again the conditions weren’t ideal. Looking forward to chatting with you fine folks and chasing those tight lines.

I haven't had much time to fish. I went on Thursday for about 2 hours. Dragged a hudd and a rising sun around. Not even a sniff. I'll be fishing the Potomac on Sunday to hopefully grind out a fish or two. Hopefully others are having better luck.

Tried the mouth of difficult run and fisherman’s eddy further upstream. Both skunks. The water was very clear and shallow. I prefer fishing the MD side but wanted to scout different spots. VA side doesn’t have as many deep eddies and most of it seems to be sheer cliff walls.

Went to the Artemeisa Lake today. 10 bass with one over 4lbs and the rest at about 1lb. Also caught 2 trout on RAT L TRAP.

Nicely done, they had stocked some trout there a few weeks ago.

 

I hit up the C&O canal from Swains and walked south just past the maintenance house. Got a small 1lber, got hit two other times. Saw a few good 2+lbers, but could not get them to bite.

Lake Artemeisa drives me crazy, the best looking parks are hard/impossible to fish from the bank.  I do ok there in the summer fishing the pad edges where I can get them them.

Took a short trip to Little Seneca Lake today hoping to break in my new rod. I was set on fishing a Deps 250 for the trip. I fished and hiked for about two hours without moving a fish. I reached a shallow flat and figured it was worth one last cast. About 5 feet from the bank I got a strike and landed this dinky but aggressive fish.

Woke up today and saw temps would get near 60, so I took the day off with a plan to mow the lawn one more time along with mulching the leaves, then head out to the C&O for fishing hike and cigar. The grass had frost on it and it thawed by 10AM, but it made it a little more difficult for my electric mower to mulch since it was wet, I had to run over it on a higher deck height first, then scalp it so it wouldn't clog. 

 

When I was finished it was about 12:30PM, so I quickly headed out to Swains. Perfect temps for a fall day, I could have worn a t-shirt and been fine. I hiked past some unfishable water due to all the falling leaves and finally got some sporadic clear water. 

 

First fish was a small one, hit a white/chartreuse war eagle finese spinnerbait with a chartreuse GY grub trailer.

 

Just a bit further down, got another one, closer to 1lb but he was a fun catch. I ran the spinnerbait through some leaves and I saw him dart out from about 5 feet away and smash the lure.

 

There were a lot of sections that weren't fishable, and they looked like this:

 

South of the maintenance house, the canal widens a little and that's where I got the best fish of the day. I saw one single tree limb sticking out of the water on the far side and casted to it. About 3 cranks later I felt weight and just kept reeling. She didn't fight hard, but she was hard to move. Didn't have a scale, but she was over 3 lbs, maybe 3.5, huge mouth, just a little stunted.

I also went out today down to hit Myrtle Grove, but didn't check the hunting seasons beforehand and thus had a very unproductive day of things.  Even with a vest and some "beer can and tungsten weight" bells tied to my pack I didn't feel very relaxed and honestly I'm too pretty to risk a face full of birdshot, so I spent the day drinking gas station coffee and hitting up every roadside marsh I could find to no effect.  I really need to remember that upland game season exists and to start checking the dates after Halloween every year.

Havent fished in about a month, but I know on some of the creeks, rivers, and lakes on the eastern shore theres pickerel, crappie, yp, and some bass to be had right now. Light tackle time tho

Had a two hour window to fish yesterday. Fished the canal targeting crappie. The wind was blowing at 10-16mph so it was difficult to freeline small baits. I clipped on a float and adjusted the depth until I found the fish suspended about 4ft down.

 

The key was not to impart any action and allow the wind and waves to work the jig. Once I got the depth and drift dialed I was getting bit on every cast. 2” shads.

 

Surprise catch of the day. Caught several of these guys. Makes me wonder if they washed in or are somehow managing to spawn.

 

Best fish of the day, a 1.25lber

 

Also managed to snag a sucker and a carp on the drift.

Wrapped presents, replaced a faucet and planned to fish a large Keitech at Widewater. Walked out the front door and walked right back in.

Anyone enjoying the weather we’ve been having? Fish seem to be biting well. I had a good time shore banging on the Potomac today. Fished a little 3/16oz underspin with a keitech fat 3.3, a good match for the little gizzards the fish have been eating. My second cast along a rocky drop I felt a hard thump. For a few seconds I thought I had a pb walleye on then the fish jumped. The river is very deep and swift here so I was surprised to see a big largemouth from this stretch of river.

 
 

Eyes were munching too. Hoping to break 6lbs this winter.

You're going to ruin the Potomac. Probably post this **** on fishbrain too. Get a life. Takes just one person to go out there and keep all the Walleye and ruin the fishery.

First fish of 2020, a stocked trout at Needwood. MD DNR had stocked 750 last week. The water was muddy, and there were a lot of people fishing for them. Only one other guy had caught one on power bait. I got this one on a small inline spinner near the long boat dock.
