ptomacbass Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Numbers are very low but here's part of a 24 pound bag from the black hole and a pic of my new boat. Who else is fishing the April 7th BFL? 1 Quote

If he's in a kayak like he says he should stick to creeks like the back of Mattawoman and stay away from the main river. It gets deadly dangerous for kayaks and very small boats on windy days. Yea dude. I sold my yak a few years ago but that’s what I said pretty much. Trubutaries coves etc. Venture out carefully. I stick to tributaries and the channel. Wasn’t saying paddle out in the main river. I meant out to wider/larger trubaties or mouths. I can see how it could read that way. Definately don’t want to suggest anyone try the paddling the greater Potomac river. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Those eyes look tasty. Good luck at the BFL ptomac. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted March 16, 2018 Super User Posted March 16, 2018 How far north do you have to go for walleyes? I finally had a decent day this year, hit Cash Lake and managed five decent ones in like 2 hours. It cost me three squarebills, one lipless, and a spinnerbait. I dredged up like a half dozen rusty crappy jigs and a mile of line. There is a chunk of like 100lb braid that I lost two of the cranks on, I might head back tomorrow with a snagging hook and 100' of paracord and try to get it out or atleast break it in half. Quote

Cash is open? If it’s that bad you might tell the office. Since it’s a pay to play lake they should be doing some upkeep. Quote
ptomacbass Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 You guys want Walleye numbers and some size you need to hit dam 4. Burke lake is surprisingly good too. Quote

Jerk bait and square bill bite has been good last 2 days. I lost them for a bit when it turned cold last couple of weeks, but I found a couple of good pockets. I like wind, but a little less might be nice. Maybe I'll hit Ca$h tomorrow, were they good cranks? Quote

They were mostly SK 1.5’s, but I had managed to hold on to them for months, so loosing them all in a single trip made me a bit cranky. I am not risking my Pointers in that mess anytime soon. I swore off bank fishing Cash last year as it is too frustrating, but was passing by there yesterday and decided to give it a shot. If this wind ever stops I am going to drag my kayak out there, the place really opens up once you are not limited to the allowed sections of bank. Still might go there today and try to get my revenge on that piece of braid. 1 Quote

It is like 4 Circuses and 5 Carnivals all happening at the same time. Yes the river is big but it is the birthplace of the bent pole pattern. A lot of these spots get so packed because they're where the fish are. Trying to do something really different usually results in <15 pounds. Just the nature of the Potomac/most places with grass and heavy current. Quote
