Good to hear you are coming back. Take it slow (It's hard I know) and listen to your body. I came back from a broken collar bone in late '16, and the first few times out were a bit rough. Who knew brushing your teeth and wiping your butt with your left hand was nearly impossible. Good luck! 1 Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted March 10, 2018 Super User Posted March 10, 2018 A year ago I partially tore my MCL, no fun at all getting all kind of great fishing reports and knowing I was out of action. End of next week I head down to Lake Guntersville for a week of fishing. Should be a good time, hoping for some big girls. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 We managed a few good ones today. Water 40_43deg. My arm was ok at best. Setting the hook like a little girl. I have a month to get it going before money is on the line. 1 Quote

Lendiesel22 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Marshy hope Had to keep the boat on that side of the bridge bc the talon and jack plate are being installed this week. I will be all Potomac after that is done. The marshy hope trip was just to feed the monkey and test out my arm. SPEAKING of which, my arm is sore but no more than usual so I am taking it as a win. Where have you been on the Potomac? Seeing any grass? I am really itching bad to go check my spots in the Chick. 1 Quote
ptomacbass Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Yeah man water temp at blue plains is like 55 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Nice! I hopeas to be out the 17th and 31st. 1st tourney is April 17. Am I wrong to want to stay away from the mobs? I have only been on the river for 5 trips last year and have only fished 5 or 6 areas. I don't mind company but I do mind 40 boats all fighting over 1 patch of gravel. This will be my 1st full season on the river so I am ready to learn. Quote

It’s a pretty big d**n river. I haven’t worked up the courage to drag my kayak out there yet and it kind of sounds like I might not even want to. Quote

On those dates (in April?) there will be 20-60 boats sitting in most good spots. If you can get a day with 20+ mph winds it might be less. On the Potomac you just have to deal with it. You can get 12-15 lbs fishing lesser stuff but that won't win anything. if you want to win you're gonna be fishing around people. The blue plains thing was me being facetious. It's 55 all winter. Most of the potomac will be in the low to mid 40s now just like the Marshyhope. 2 Quote

There’s real time data on the USGS waterdata website. Even plots the trends over days week or months. Flow and turbity data there too. Great resource. I’ve only gone to 4 mile on Pmac so that’s no indicator for anywhere else. LOL clocked some farm ponds at almost 65f for a couple days but their back down to upper 40s now. 3 hours ago, Lendiesel22 said: Nice! I hopeas to be out the 17th and 31st. 1st tourney is April 17. Im not the tournament expert at all but I’d advoid traffic and pressure as a general rule. Find spots others don’t use. Low boat traffic etc. that’s where the biggest ones will be. 1 hour ago, fishwizzard said: Does the Potomac really get that crowded? It’s a pretty big d**n river. Lol tournament or not the popular spots are always pretty crowded. Not 40 boats level usually but maybe 20 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted March 12, 2018 Super User Posted March 12, 2018 Yikes, well I guess I can scratch the Potomac off of my plans for this season, at least heading out there on the weekend sounds kind of nightmareish. Quote

Logan S Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 The crowds are fine...Most guys out there know how to fish in a crowd and not be total d-bags about it. There are handful of community holes that will have the big flotillas on them, but the rest of the river is fairly normal for a good/popular bass fishery. There's a reason those spots draw so many boats . 2 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted March 12, 2018 Super User Posted March 12, 2018 Fortunately my wacky work schedule allows me to fish during weekdays almost every week, but the river still freaks me out a little. All my current river experiences are in the more sedate tidal rivers around Annapolis. I’ve been to Mallows Bay a handful of times but I’ve never done terribly well there, that’s mostly though I’m always distracted staring at all the wrecks and such. Quote

I’d start off in tributaries, bays and harbors. Venture out as you feel more confident. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 I had mallows on my 31st trip agenda as I work back north. I am going south just to get a better scope of the river. Right now I only know from Swan Creek to Quantico. Both times I tried to run past Quantico I got stuck in some really nasty stuff coming back. The river can be really rude in a variety of conditions. Venture out as you feel more confident. Not to pick on you or anything but have you ever actually fished the Potomac below the Wilson Bridge? If he's in a kayak like he says he should stick to creeks like the back of Mattawoman and stay away from the main river. It gets deadly dangerous for kayaks and very small boats on windy days. Quote
Fried Lemons Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Hot walleye bite. Caught 5 in a 30 minute period. Quote
