Minnow: Thanks for the welcome! There are certainly many more fishing options here than SE PA. Let me know if you ever want to meet up for some pond hoppin.

Bunnielab: I lived in Korea (where snakeheads are from) for a couple years and never caught one, but plenty of largemouths. Go figure. I hear snakeheads are pretty good eating too. I think next weekend I'll either try Bowie State or take a hike in the refuge.

Actually the fishing near Philly, and south Jersey is very good. There seems to be snakeheads everywhere.

South Jersey, yes. Delaware County where I'm from, not so much. A couple years ago the water company closed down the reservoir when the people in the McMansions complained. There are some OK places in Philly down by the airport, some of them VERY sketchy.

Hey guys - new to this forum and new to Frederick MD. I'm up here working for several months - comin from South Florida it is quite the change.

Anyways what lakes or ponds produce largemouth Bass? I am staying off Buckeytown 85 if that helps with location. Down in Florida there are lakes on every corner - and if you know which one, you pull in 6-8lb bass all day. Hell, behind my house, literally 20yds out my back door I have pulled them in. Now I am not expecting that to happen in the slightest - but short of getting a boat - I am wondering what are the good spots to hit? Also do you have to worry about HOA's calling the cops (they do that crap in FL - normally at the ponds that produce the biggest). Guy at work suggested the Monocacy River - but I am unfamiliar with it. So any tips or pointers you can give would be great.

I will be hitting the lake's in Columbia/Ellicott City this weekend, possibly tomorrow 10JUN, if anyone wants to meet up and co-fish let me know by reply or PM.

Centennial Lake, Lake Kittamaqundi, or Wilde Lake are all fine with me

Hit Allen Pond today to try out a new combo.  Discovered that it is a lot easier to pitch a 3/4oz lure under a dock then a 1/4oz one.  Got this skinny guy right away.  Dude needs a sandwich or something.

I would like to tell a story of a perfectly aimed cast, but nope, got this lady, maybe the biggest I have gotten from here, when my thumb slipped while making a roll cast.  The lure flew backwards and and landed right on her head I guess, as she grabbed it instantly.

I need to start carrying my scale in my pocket, as I never have time to get it out of my pack.  The pic does not do this fish justice, I had to turn her sideways to get here through the railing.

Got two smaller ones as well, including a little 9" guy.  I was worried that a H rod would be too stiff, but even the little guy could bend the tip enough to make it easy to keep pressure on.

Did some pond hopping today, caught bass everywhere I went but they were all small.  All came from pitching plastics to pads or under docks.

Did have a close call in the morning;

Might need to start wearing a cup.

Also caught a big old bullfrog;

Found someone's fishing gear today!!!! I was working in Baltimore city today and noticed a book bag behind some bushes up against the house I was working on, when I climbed back there and got it open. I realized it is full of fishing tackle, so if you had your bag stolen while in Baltimore city or know someone whose was I may have it. If some one can describe the bag and its contents your more then welcome to have it back. Please share this so maybe this stuff can get back to the rightful owner, if it's not claimed in a week or so the bag and it's contents will go to a young and upcoming angler. Thanks in advance...

I'll be in Baltimore late July-early August. Do the Loch Raven rental boats ever sell out?

They sure do within two hours (unless you don't mind yakking or rowing a boat).  Usually they trickle back at about 11ish.

Fished the Upper Potomac on Sunday and caught nine fish -- eight smallmouth and a sunfish.  One smallmouth was about 14 inches and another was 12, but the rest were dinks.  Caught the majority with a Z-Man TRD Finesse Worm with a couple on a Reaction Innovations Little Dipper.

Today I hit another part of the Upper Potomac I had never fished before and caught eight fish -- six smallmouth, one tiny largemouth and a sunfish.  It was actually the first largemouth I've caught on the Potomac -- seen little ones here and there but never caught one until today.  It might have been six inches.  One of the smallmouth was 15" (first picture) and fought like a ... well ... a smallmouth that thought it was bigger than it was!  Everything today was on a Z-Man worm.

Also saw something lurking against the bank (second picture).

Well, for all you fans of catching snakehead, it appears they are in Lake Elkhorn now.

That's about all I've been catching the river smallmouth on lately.

Not me. Got the picture from my roommate, don't know who it is. I'm game though. I think most of the snakeheads behind savage mill are gone now. Everyone and their mother have been fishing for them there and killing or eating them.

d**n word floated quick as ****.  Your Chris' roommate right?  Did he get that from David?

The Savage Mill snakeheads have been there for awhile, I saw one and I think posted about it last spring.  No idea if they can make it upriver past the falls.

DNR sure was quick to electroshock and clean out Elkhorn's snakeheads.  And here I thought I'd get the chance to fulfill my duty and go Rambo on one.

Snakeheads haven't been reported above Great Falls on the Potomac AFAIK, so they probably shouldn't be above Savage Mill on the Little Patuxent unless someone put them there.

Nice!  Was just a matter of time.  Someone told me that they saw one by the bridge.

Couple folks I know that reported it was told about the process.  One lucky wretched got to go fishing on weekday morning and saw it.  I wish I could fish a weekday morning.
