JigMe Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I attempted to hit dam 4 this morning. Ha ha ha ha ha! Um, the river was only at 18 feet then. Most of the time, I was literally standing on the tow path fishing the river (where I could). Needless to say, didn't stay there long. Popped over to the C&O canal in Williamsport. Surprisingly, I found clear water! Worked some small plastics for a while and wasn't having any luck. Picked up a jerkbait and was fishing it a little while and just wasn't having any action. Thought to myself, did this rain a cooler temps shut them down? For grins, I started really working the jerkbait real irractic. All of a sudden, I saw a bass come up and miss the bait. Not 2 minutes later, same deal! Started tweaking the cadance and finally figured it out! Ended up with 5 small keepers on 2 colors of the Smithwick Rattlin Rogues. Finally, that monkey is off my back! ;D kool. I attempted to go out today as well, got my rain coat on and everything...Hit the lake for 30 mins, then went to starbucks for coffee... ;D Quote
Basser714 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Hey everyone. I have made my first expedition of the year to Bass Pro Shops. Needless to say, all my tackle boxes were already packed to the gills from last year. Who cares, its time to use errr lose some. So I am thinking the warm weather predicted for later this week a perfect time to get back out. I heard this Tidal Potomac report thanks to Reel Bass Adventures: The bass fishing is breaking out all over. We made good catches of bass up to six pounds this week by concentrating on areas that have a rocky or gravel bank with grass in two to three feet of water. Bass were caught on lipless crank baits, chatter baits, deep baby N's, Baby-1 Minus, Storm Thin fins, jerk baits, Pulse worms, Chigger Craws and jig and plastic combo's Quote

jmh285 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hey, quick question. Im not sure if i read this wrong or not but are you allowed to shore fish at Loch Raven? Yes you can however, a freshwater liscense is required. Quote

JigMe Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Good Crappie fishing from the bridge at dulaney valley rd, but no idea where to catch bass in there... ;D Quote
Hellbenderman Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Should I be reasonable and not go dashing down to Black Hills this weekend when it hits seventy degrees...stay tuned! Quote

Y'all are killin me here! Seems like everyone is getting out today while I'm stuck at work. Didn't even get out at lunch time today. :'( LOL! Quote
Smiths.R Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Sorry to hear that Basser. I got out yesterday and today, but no luck. As for weather or not you can get bass at Loch Raven...If you can't get bass at Loch Raven, you need to find another hobbie. That reservoir is LOADED with bass. It's impossible to fish there and not get bass. Quote
Basser714 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Went to BHill tonight. Saw something big splashing across the lake, but no bass sightings. Water temp was 49 degrees at shore. Quote
basser89 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Smiths.R, Loch Raven is one place I haven't fished yet. Good to know that place has plenty of bass! Basser714, thanks for the heads up on the temps! What part of the lake were you checking out? Quote

basser89 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Posted this in the outings sections too but figured I'd post a quick recap here for the locals. Hit Black Hills at lunch! Decided on a spinnerbait and had 3 within 15 minutes! Total weight of those 3 was 7lbs 5oz with the largest going 3lbs 5oz. They were inhaling it too! Really did not want to leave! Here's a pic of the 3 pounder. Quote
Boett43 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Awesome Fish, one of these days im gonna have some sucess at black hills i know it lol Quote
Basser714 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Breaker 89 I was down near the bridge on shore. I havent had any luck yet though... spinner bait you say. Definitely appreciate your post in here for us locals. I am not sure where the bass are yet but am really happy to see you landed some, as I willl be there again soon. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Great looking fish! I'm going Saturday and hope to do the same. Quote
fish jones Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I live right on the PA/MD border and do most of my fishing in MD... Upper Potomac when I can. Lakes include but not limited to Cunningham Falls, Greenbrier, and Blairs Valley, as well as a few in PA. Always looking for people to go fishing with so hit me up if you are in my area. Quote
basser89 Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 Basser714, personally I'm not a big fan of those coves down by the bridge from shore. I've never done very well in that area. Could be just me though. I mentioned in the outings section, as soon as I walked down to the bank, I saw 2 small ones up within 2' of the bank (one was tight against it). I also noticed where I was fishing, the water has a LOT more color than the main lake was. Think with the dirtier water and the bright sun, that may have helped pull then in a little more. Good luck Hellbenderman! Let us know how you do! Take lots of pics! fish jones, I don't think I've said it yet so welcome to THE boards! Sounds like we fish a lot of the same waters (I'm in Williamsport for a little while longer, not moving far though). The only one you listed that I haven't been to in ages is Blairs Valley. Quote
Boett43 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Anyone that fishes the pond in middletown, the Jerk bait Bite is on. fished from about 1-4 cuaght 6 and had atleast 3 come unhooked durring a jump. Biggest went right around 3lbs ill try to get a pic later but idk how good it turned out Quote
basser89 Posted March 20, 2010 Author Posted March 20, 2010 Thanks for the heads up Boett! I was thinkin about trying there out sometime soon. Did you happen to get a water temp while you were there? Quote
Boett43 Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 no didnt get any water temps, i cuaght them all in the same corner up by the drainage area it was kinda weird. Waters pretty murky though Quote
Basser714 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Went to Piscataway today. Water was 59 degrees, and muddy. We combined for 6 large including a 4 pounder and the rest ~2 or less. Spinner baits and soft plastics worked, jigs and cranks... failed. A commercial fisherman had the ramp all blocked when we were leaving. They hauled out 6 big tubs of catfish. Their boat looked like a tank on the water. Quote

basser89 Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 I tried to help out with my posts on here when I can. Had a BAD start to the year but hopefully, things will continue to pick up for me. Yeah, my luck at Blairs Valley sounds similar to yours. My best day out there was on my boat too. I've had some luck from shore there too. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Went to Black Hills yesterday. Water stained, temp 52-56. Got there about two. Put the boat in and battery was bad. Took boat out and went to Walmart and got a new battery. By the time I got back on the water it 4:00. I asked some other people how they had done and only one guy had caught anything. They were using spinnerbaits mostly. Figuring I had about 3 hours to fish, I made a decision to haul butt and go all the way back under the bridge to the rock barrier. I didn't stop a long the way. There was nothing going on on the rocks. I saw no little fish, no minnows, no bait fish of any kind. I tried a spinnerbait and a jerk bait on behind and in front of the rocks and got nada. Switched tactics. To the right as you face the rock pile, there are some sunken trees about 75 feet (?) down and 75 feet out (?) from the rocks and shore. As I could find no fish out and roaming around, or shallow, I targeted that timber which sits in about 8 feet of water with a senko. I caught three dinks off that lumber in a half hour by just casting to that string of stumps and timber over and over and working it very slowly. I was hoping a monster would stop by, but...So, I think the little ones are out and about, but sluggish and holding tight to whatever, and have to be coaxed out. I didn't see any sign there was big rush to shore, but I was way back there and there may have been more fish in the coves I passed up. I hope this cold spell doesn't last long. We need about a week like the last couple days and the place will explode. Quote
