fishangdood Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I was fishing Wilde Lake in Howard County yesterday and made small talk with a fellow angler. I politely took all his input on how to catch the 'big ones' with the watermelon and red flake yum dingers or senkos. Anyhow, he proceeded onto catching bedding bass. This was the part that caught my attention. So much like a dog, if you were too slap a bass' tail, it'll give your bait a reaction bite. I never thought about doing that. Here I was dropshotting forever with every plastic on hand and this concept completely eluded me. Can anyone here verify this? Quote
Bill Poch Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 It's been awhile since I've updated my fishing lately. Let me just say I love the spawn. Been killing it at Baker park this past month. Now that it's close to over I'll tell you what I found that the bass couldn't resist. I have some Campground Special Teaser tubes (2 3/4") that I picked up this winter for small mouth on the Potomac. Let me tell you, once I gave those a try, when I found a bass sitting on a bed, my average catch time was less than 5 mins. i had a few lunch breaks up at baker park with 3 or 4 fish caught. 2 weeks ago I got the kayak out to Black Hills and only came away with one fish, I haven't been back yet. I also checked out the pond by Frisco's in the Yak that same day, got 1, missed 2 or 3. I was way back in a mess of trees with no casting room, so I was trying to pitch/flip from the yak. It wasn't easy. Here's a few bedding bass 4.5 pounder 3.5 pounder A few other 1 Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted May 17, 2015 Super User Posted May 17, 2015 Biggest for me was a 4lb 7oz largemouth, which tied for co-angler lunker. The boater lunker was a 5lb smallmouth. Quote
sprirobass Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I fished Black Hill last Saturday. Only got one, a 2 pounder. I switched gear and fished for crappie. Got tons of small ones. I planned on keeping some for dinner. Put my stringer in the water, when I pick it up all of them has been chomped in half. I looked down in the water, a big snapping turtle was enjoying my dinner. 2 Quote
KenLattimore Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I managed an outing at Black Hills on Sunday from 6 - 10:30am. Started off with a PopMax at dawn with no results so I switched over to plastic and got a number of hits, but only landed one out of three hooked. Right before leaving I decided to go back to the Popmax with all the surface activity and a nice bass just inhaled it...no big splash, just a big swirl and the PopMax was gone. The picture doesn't do it justice, but I'll estimate at 17-20" and 2.5-3lbs....compare my hand to the overall size of the fish and yes I know I need to get a scale!!! Quote
Jeremy pharmareaps Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Found this while huckleberry finnin' it sitting over a log dangling a clouser minnow in the only break in dense weeds on my 5wt fly rod. Immediately taking off into the elephant ear pads covering itself in over ten pounds of absolute mess, and wrapping around a tree.... Was intense! Gave her some slack and she fixed herself and fish on! Was scouting for Snakeheads. Quote
Jeremy pharmareaps Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Some very small water Smallies from the other day. Great bbattles on the 3wt.one 17.5 inch while my previous best there was only 11... Great surprises! Quote
RedskinsFisher Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Anyone gone out to triadelphia this year? Ive hit rocky gorge a few times, the last couple weeks i have only been catching one or two though. The WSSC pass covers them both so I figure I will head to triadelphia for my next trip Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Anyone have any good spots on the Potomac in or near Montgomery county for bank fishing for smallies? Check out this book. It's very good. You should consider wading the river when water levels are safe to do so. http://www.switchfisher.com/admin/CatchGuides/CG-UPCatchguide.html Quote
shsabres Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hey all, anybody know any areas in Southern Maryland to either fish on the bank or rent jon boat (with trolling motor preferably)? I live in Charles County and just moved here. Only place I have found is Gilbert Run Park and its pretty bad fishing. Went this weekend and caught one total. Talked to others and they got nothing. Any insight is helpful. Just moved here so trying to get the lay of the land! Thanks all. Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Nice fish!! What is a "5wt"? 5 weight fly rod. Comparable to a light or ultra light power rod. 1 Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted May 27, 2015 Super User Posted May 27, 2015 Nice fish!! What is a "5wt"? Fly rod. They are measured in "weight" kinda like bass rod ratings. The "weight" pertains to the size line (and fly size) that you'll throw. Higher number = Heavier applications. 1 Quote
