Bill Poch Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Nice fish MARs. Might hit up Black hills in the yak this weekend. Was hoping to drop it in the Potomac but the future cast has it rising to 5' on Friday. I didn't think we were suppose to get that much rain. I'd really like to get into some smallies now that water temp is pushing mid 50's 1 Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 Okay, wasn't sure just heard it was this weekend so wanted to get that out. I have a tourney on Lake Anna Saturday so that will entail my fishing for the weekend between prefishing friday and the tourney itself. Not sure when I will get to BH, may not be until my tourney there early May. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Just checked and submitted a report for DNR. I noticed that somebody submitted a report from the large body of water next to Walmart on Monocacy Blvd. that there had been come curiosity about. Well looks like there are fish but maybe only little guys. However it may deserve a little "further investigation" after proof fish are there. 1 Quote

I have fished there while this is going on and it was fine. There will be cops at the gate but they let you fish. The wife and kids will be gone so I may fish both days? Allen Quote

I've fished there when fish jumping everywhere but couln't get a hook up. My kids caught bluegills and crappies there. My neighbor said there are big carp there too. Quote
basser89 Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 I've seen the bluegill and the carp in my scouting before, but this was back when they were doing all the excavating around the pond. Glad to see someone has found some bass in there. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I got out on Black Hills yesterday. The water temp was average about 53 with the highes being 54.5. The fish were still deep on main lake structure and still seemed to be somewhat lethargic. I did manage 2 at some trees in 45 foot of water. I had to slow way down and fished the tree for about an hour before I got a bite. Sure they will be turning on here soon. 1 Quote
Edub Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Got my first of the season in baker park saturday morning. 4.78 lbs Smashed a lipless as I was casting and walking to my car. Anyone fish whittier lake at all? I hear its pretty good from a DNR officer I talked to a middletown park. He mentioned large fish and a good many of them. 2 Quote
jtphenom Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Nice bass, Edub!I fish Whitter, but I've only fished it once or twice this year so far. I've caught a few bass out of there in the past. It ain't easy, though! I'd start under the dock closest to the little shopping center, and use a lizard. Quote
Preetmandavia Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Where on Black Hill Park is the Stick Ups area? I remember going there when I was really young but cant seem to scope it out on my own anymore. Quote
Bill Poch Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Nice fish Edub. I haven't had much luck there the past week running a 1/2 oz red eye shad along the shoreline. Have caught a few decent size crappie with it though. Only managed abouta 2 pound bass last Fri evening. I dont know where to start with Whitter. Caught one there last year just over 3 pounds. I've not really put a bunch of time putting anything together over there. If you see me at baker park come say hi. I always have my blue tackle backpack on. Quote
nastynate Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Seems like the beautiful days are the worst days to be fishing. Was out on black hills Sunday planing for a knock out day but only could pick up 5 fish that went a healthy 13lb. No big schools of crappie on the graph yet. Did mark some big fish lurking in the bottom but thinking they are big catfish. Next 2 weeks should really be good. Caught my first black hills catfish and probably my personal best channel cat. Seen a wounded crappie floating in a area I think is a big bass factory and a light bulb went off in my head. We the next cast I let my bait sink pretty deep in the water column and when I wet to real the was weight. Long story short after 15 min of playing with this thing out popped a fat cat!! 2 Quote
MARsSPEED Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Glad to see many got some wet lines over the weekend! I had a site visit next to Lake Artemesia in College Park, MD. Pulled out around 20 bass that were 14" or less. Spoke with one of the locals who told me the large bass are hard to catch there except during pre-spawn and spawn. Lake was loaded with fish and you can fish the entire shore. No boats though . Seems like a great place for bank fishermen. Quote

There were one or two boats I recognized besides the catfish master Nate. Allen Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 I owe you an apology Allen, after talking to you on the ramp briefly I didn't realize it was you until about 45 minutes later when I had an out of the blue moment of clarity. Sorry I did not stop and talk more, after 2 days on Anna, and a lack of sleep was out of it. I am sorry. We stopped and fished for crappie for a little while to start, got a little mess of them for my boaters dinner. Bass fishing started out okay, mostly a jerkbait bite, but died around noon. Everything disappeared including the crappie we were catching earlier, depth finder was barren so we called it a day. Quote
Bill Poch Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I have tomorrow off work and was going to dump the kayak in at Black Hills for the day, but after reading how slow the bite is, and without a fish finder on the yak, I'm thinking I should plan on other waters instead. Maybe I'll be better off pond hoping or giving dickerson and the C&O canal a go. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Munkin I have a bass tracker pro170 I have a B.A.S.S sticker on windshield. I was mainly out deep in middle fishing deep trees near bridge Quote
live2hunt Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Went to prettyboy reservoir just to cast around for an hour with my wife and kids and I managed to catch a new personal best smallmouth. I used a shakeyhead with a 10" black powerworm. Thinking of checking out black hills on Thursday for a little bit of bank fishing. Any good areas I should check out (not trying to take anyone's spot)? Anyway here's my fish from today. 1 Quote
jtphenom Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Great fish and cute kid, live2hunt!I would suggest the stick-ups down by the pet area, as well as the rocks by the boat ramp. Quote

MARsSPEED Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Paint Branch behind Lake Artemesia. Very easy lake to fish from the shore. Quote
