Jtrout Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I just started to get into bass fishing alot more this year after using bait pretty much all the time before and am looking for different places to go. I live right by lake frank and lake needwood but those dont seem to be very productive. I like going to black hills and rocky gorge, i fish from the bank unless i feel like renting a canoe at black hills. I'm looking for some other places to go to mix it up, has anyone fished cash lake in the patuxent refuge? I tried to attach two pictures here but couldn't figure that out either ha.[/quote I live near cash lake and have only caught a couple small bass. There are big ones in there. It's not a deep lake and there's some pickerel in there too. The water is stained like tea. It is also heavily fished. Quote
Bill Poch Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Ran over to Baker Park this evening. I didn't realize there was more than 1 fish in there. Caught 4 decent size fish tonight, all on a buzz bait. Buddy of mine caught 1 on a plastic worm. 1 Quote
basser89 Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Managed a short outing this morning. Hit the pond in Sharpsburg. Landed a dink on a t-rigged stick bait. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 Got 2 on a spinnerbait today at Loch Raven and had 2 more on but lost them. No action flipping and pitching my jig to cover close to the shore but throwing the SB to cover in deeper water was the way to be. Going to go back tomorrow. Hopefully the pattern keeps up. Looks like the fall bite is on! Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 Fished a club tournament Sunday at Four Locks and it was tough. I caught one 15" SM that was good enough for 1st place and lunker. Second place was a 12.5" SM and no other fish were caught by the other 8 people. This place has fished so bad the past two years it will not even be a option to vote for next year. Allen 1 Quote
Chopstick Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Went to Dickerson for couple hours, and caught my personal best. It was about 21 or 22 inches and fat. It was caught on Megastrike shaky head (3/16 OZ) and Zoom trick worm. Tossed the shaky head next to a laydown and shook about 10 seconds and the line started to move. I am now a shaky head fan. 1 Quote

Allen I was out there last Sunday... everyone I talked to that bass fished (in your club tourney or not) had a tough day. My buddy Bob fished it last Sunday and caught one dink...very tough and he's a good angler. He says he's done with the 'Mac. I'm not sure what is going on there, but other spots along the river haven't been bad for me. One thing that I noticed a couple weeks ago that a lot of bass were still in skinny moving water and had a good day on buzzbaits. Jetting in that skinny clear water is nerve racking though. Good luck Allen. Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted October 10, 2014 Super User Posted October 10, 2014 Anyone been to dickerson recently? Wondering how the canal is, have the day off work and can't seem to find anyone with a boat to fish with so thinking about going there. Quote
Bill Poch Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Tried a little bass fishing at baker part for lunch yesterday, managed a 13 -14" crappie Thinkin about running down to Black Hills with the kayak on Monday since I have the day off. I've not fished there this late in the year. Where should I look for the fish? Will they be shallow or deep. 2 Quote

Wondering how the canal is, have the day off work and can't seem to find anyone with a boat to fish with so thinking about going there. I was there yesterday. The canal next to the parking lot is covered with slimy green stuff. If you walk a bit towards the power plant there are some open water but I didn't fish the canal. I fished a small stretch of the Potomac pretty much by myself until the DNR Police greeted & suprised the hell out of me from behind. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 Brothers of the Maryland's Who's who! thread I am asking for a fishing moment of silence for NastyNate. Nate recently lost his favorite swim jig that I gave him in June. This jig survived a lot of hangings in trees, laydowns, etc. in at least 3 different bodies of water. Sadly its luck ran out last weekend and he will now have to spend 30 seconds building a replacement. Allen 1 Quote
nastynate Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Ha....haaaa.. It will never be the same again. Quote

Super User Munkin Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 You can build me one too lol Do you even fish anymore? I think Nate is the only one still fishing this year. Yesterday I took my daughter to Blairs Valley and she caught 2 rainbow trout and a bunch of sunfish. I tried both a bluegill and whiteish colored swim jigs which caught nothing. Allen Quote

Allen I haven't got to fish much with all the family stuff going on,both my parents are in the hospital .. I did get out with mattyp last Sat on big slack with no luck.. I do wanna get out more before it gets too cold.. Take advantage of the fall bite Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 As long as the water is not frozen keep fishing, some good fish can be caught during the winter months. 1 Quote
nastynate Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Got out to black hills yesterday and what a grind of a day it was. When we first got to the lake I noticed that the recent rain must of brought the lake up. I would have though it would be kind of lower because of summer but I haven't been to the lake sense spring. Water temp was reading 65 to 67 is different areas and the wind progressively got stronger as the day went on. Guess we had a mini cold front coming in. With that said in my head I'm thinking today should be lights out but the higher water I didn't like. I struggled all morning beating the bank with jig and plastics but my partner was able to pluck a few with a jig fish just didn't like mine. About mid morning I put down the bank busters and followed the electronics. Marking the bulk of the fish in 22 to 30 feet of water. So to knock a tactic off my bucket list I tied on the 6xd and a little while later I hooked up. After eventually loosing the 6xd to a submerged tree I pulled out a flat side strike king and fish it the rest of the day resulting in a few more fish. Towards the end of the day I got one on a spinner and last fish caught was on my replacement swim jig....Allen...lol. Probably only boated 8 fish witch 7 were keepers all about 2 pound. The fish are still deep I want another crack at them when does that place close? 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 It closes December 15th, but don't expect them to go shallow. Quote

Bill Dance lure retriever would have saved it! I have only lost two cranks in like 5 years thanks to Bill. One of the baits wouldn't tune right so I didn't even bother trying to get it back. BTW; If you are missing a DT Rapala from Blairs Valley I have it. Allen Quote
nastynate Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I have lost a few baits in the valley mostly rattle traps. The one I lost at black hills was to line failure. On the retreave the rod loaded up and I set the hook. SNAP....I don't understand.. But bill dance may make his way to my boat. Dramer77 can give his to now he doesn't fish anymore. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 20, 2014 Super User Posted October 20, 2014 Fished the river yesterday morning. It was up about a foot and a half and off color. Saw one fish, biggest freaking carp I've ever seen. There was a blue Tracker Jet boat fishing the same stretch, if that was any of you guys. I appreciate the heads up on water temp. Quote

Super User Munkin Posted October 23, 2014 Super User Posted October 23, 2014 Was looking on Google maps for something else and found 2 lakes in MD that I have never heard of, Lake Needwood and Lake Bernard Frank. Anyone fish these that could post some info? Allen Quote
