BigTerp Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Was out this past Sunday morning above McCoys Ferry and managed 8+ smallmouth between 3 guys. Mostly dinks and all caught on curly tail grubs. Also managed to find a rock with the foot of my 1994 Johnson 50/35 jet at full throttle. Hoping to be back on the water by next weekend. Quote

Bill Poch Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Finally got out on the Potomac for some smallmouth action Sat. Put in at Mouth of Monocacy with my brother and his son. We put over 20 fish on the boat, nothing big, but it's fish! The only thing they wanted were crankbaits. 1 Quote

Bill Poch Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Ran to Black Hills after work Monday night. Got my 1st bass on a frog at the stick-ups, nice 4lber. Got two more on a Zara spook over at the backwash, 1 on each side. I must have landed one cast right on top of one, because he crushed it the second it hit the water. I wasn't expecting that becasue the spook makes a hell of a splash on impact. I did see what looked to be a very nice bass fertilizing a nest over by where the creek dumps into the lake at the stick-ups. I had my frog on and my tackle box was too far away from me to go grab something else to see if I could catch him. I figured I'd let Daddy do his work and catch his kids in a few years. There were a bunch of carp in the backwash hanging out, some pretty big ones. Anybody have a recommendation on brand/type fishing line for a baitcaster. I can't remember what I put on it last year, and I restrug my baitcaster last week with some 12lb. 1st cast with it was the worst birds nest I've had. Last year was my 1st year trying a baitcaster and it was fine. This year, I have no idea what happen. I had to put my frog on my spinning rod that has 10lb line on it. Frog was a little heavy for it, but I did enjoy the extreme long casting, talk about covering a lot of water quickly! Quote

If you are still learning a baitcaster and going through line I recommend Berkley Big Game. Big Game is like $10 for 1k yards at Wal-Mart and they have it on sale regularly. I like this line because of the price and it works as well as any other mono I have used. Allen 1 Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 11, 2014 Super User Posted June 11, 2014 The wife caught a nice one earlier today at Loch Raven. I didn't catch anything but for some reason I think I like it better when she's catching anyway. 3 Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 Anyone put eyes on the river this morning? I'm sure it can't be good.... Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 Haven't seen the river yet but apparently residents of Clear Spring (just west of Hagerstown) are being told to monitor water levels and have alternate locations to go just in case. The Conococheague Creek is pretty rough at this point. http://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news/breaking/residents-being-asked-to-consider-evacuating-in-clear-spring/article_e1be9dac-f2ec-11e3-b48a-0017a43b2370.html Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 That was my concern. Parts of Franklin County PA got DUMPED on yesterday and the Conococheague runs right through most of it. That water needs to go somewhere.... Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 You think it's just the river below where the 'cheague dumps in or is it muddy/high up near Dam 5 too? Quote
