Super User Munkin Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 I still think black hills is in a funk but managed to get 8 to the boat. You could have did some wind surfing on the main lake toda Fished there today and man was it tough! Managed 4 fish and lost 3 more but like I said it was rough fishing. In the morning fish came on the white spinnerbait but after 10am it was all about the jig. I did find a couple lures back in the stick up area like normal but whomever launched that Stanley frog up into the tree I will tell you that it is not time for those yet. Allen 1 Quote
dinneronastring Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I'm from New Windsor and fished for first time this season today at Cunningham falls and then tripped to the Monocacy at the Frederick and Carroll County line. Caught one 15 inch smallie from the Monocacy. Fish are holding deep at the lake and river. Bites are minimal. Went to C & O canal yesterday. Caught 6 sonny's and one pumpkin seed. Quote
Dramer77 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Bass in the canal were getting on beds I noticed when we were there yesterday Quote
Scoob13 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Anybody have some pointer for both Black Hills and the Potomac? I went to Black Hills Saturday and Sunday and was skunked. Not sure if I am fishing the "right" spots. Tried everything from spinner baits, flukes, buzz baits, crank baits, and senkos. Below is a map of the park and the red is where I was fishing. If someone could mark up some other spots that would be fantastic! My other question is about the Potomac, where is a good place to park and bank fish? I was thinking of going over to White's Ferry and trying there. Any thoughts? Quote
nastynate Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I know this is dirty but here is another one I hooked up with on Saturday. I had a pretty good big fish bite right in the morning but it shut down quick. On tips what I kinda was figuring out was the big fish were still hanging in deeper water while the smaller fish were relating to some kind of cover right off the shore line. I had two pretty good techniques that would land me a fish here and there but only one area where the wind was blowing in that was producing a couple. Every week they have been in different areas. Search and remember depth is how I went about my day. Water temp was reading about 56 to 60 for the duration of the time I was there. I herd Sunday the water temps really came up so I would focus on hard bottoms and structure. Hope this will help some Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 They were definately more active in the shallows during the morning. Once the sun was out they started hanging deeper unless there was wood. Allen Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 Tried everything from spinner baits, flukes, buzz baits, crank baits, and senkos. You need to use a blue dot just look at Nate's picture. Allen 3 Quote

Super User Munkin Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 Ha I didn't even notice that. You guys keep your secrets close don't you? I caught all my fish last Saturday on; 1/2oz white spinnerbait with a single silver Indiana blade, and a green pumkin/black/brown jig in both 3/8 and 1/2oz with a green pumkin trailer. As far as spots go I have a boat so I don't know where you can get to from shore. Generally looking at your map I would try two areas; around the ramp the riprap along the road that splits the lake, and the other side under the bridge from where you fished. Allen Quote
dinneronastring Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Monocacy produced nothing today. A couple of light hits. One really large one jumped throughout the day. Made a splash like someone smacking the water with a catchers mit. Quote
Bill Poch Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 With all this rain, looks like the river is not going to do so well this weekend. Thinking about grabbing my brothers jon boat and hitting black hills Sat. I really want to get out on the Potomac for some smallies Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 29, 2014 Super User Posted April 29, 2014 If I were to launch my boat at Williamsport, how much area is there to fish around there? I can't really tell much from satellite maps. Obviously the power plant would be the furthest downstream. How far up the Conococheague can I go, if any? How far up the river past the launch? Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 30, 2014 Super User Posted April 30, 2014 Prop and a little motor at that, so won't be fighting any strong currents. Quote

I can't really tell much from satellite maps. Obviously the power plant would be the furthest downstream. How far up the Conococheague can I go, if any? How far up the river past the launch? That area I would not recommend unless you have a jet. Water level is either too low for a prop or too strong of current when the river is up. Four Locks is a better option and if you have a small enough boat and 4wd the McCoys Ferry ramp would work. Allen Quote
Dramer77 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Yea 4 locks or mccoys would be your best bet, who knows how long the big slack ramp will be closed... If you had a jet you could run the creek up the whole way to the mill.. Nate would know more about that area, I think he has a jet and has ran all around there Quote
nastynate Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I have seen props manage in Williamsport. You would need the right water level and recommended to hit the chute. Don't try to go up the creek it gets shallow. Quote
Mastercaster Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Hit Piney Run with my dad on Monday before the monsoon hit, boated 5 fish 17.5", 16", 15", 14" and a 10". Not bad for the first trip of the season 2 Quote
Bill Poch Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Finally got the skunk off. Nice 3 pounder at lunch time today from a pond off Whitter Dr in Frederick. I hope thats a good *** for this weekend. Wife and kid free weekend, I'm picking up my brothers Jon boat Sat and hitting Black Hills. Never self launched a boat before, should be fun. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 . Never self launched a boat before, should be fun. I do it all the time! Just get a rope and tie it to the trailer. Allen Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 After all the rain my club moved its tourney tomorrow to Black Hills, the high water would not have been safe at the old location. So will be interesting to see how the dirty water affects the bite. The description of the lake I got from a co-worker who drives by it on the way to work was, high and muddy. Quote
nastynate Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I might stop by black hills on my way home today to get a visual. Quote

I was at Black Hills last night. The water is definitely high! I went to one of the same spots I went last time and was standing just about 15 feet out away from my last trip. Water is a little muddy but I'm used to that from fishing in Ohio. I only spent about an hour and was able to pull this little guy out. I don't have a scale but I'd say maybe 2-3 lbs. Not bad for the first fish I've ever caught in Maryland. Quote
