basser89 Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Had today off so hit dam 4 this morning. Made a good call on that one. Didn't catch numbers but the bigger ones were hitting! Managed 4 smallies, 2 on a crank and 2 on a tube. Smallest went 16" with the biggest going 18". Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Hey Basser, I scored a good deal on a Tracker Pro Crappie 175.. I hear a lot of guys fishing at Dam 4.. Being a lake guy is this area a tough spot to get in/out due to river flow? Any do's/don'ts you could throw my way? I got a topo map and will have depth finders Thanks Peter Quote

Me personally, I stay away from dam 4 in the warmer months. There are some HUGE cruisers that put in at dam 4 and have absolutely no consideration for smaller crafts. I was almost thrown out of my boat several years back because of some idiot. I tend to hit some of the other boat ramps around washington county, they're more shallow and you have to pay attention a little more when running the outboard but to me, its safer. Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Thanks, I guess I just need to get out to the other places on the river and learn it. I figure Washington Co. on up. A hear from time to time guys fishing out of brunswick, Lander, etc. but must be pretty shallow and lots of rocks, big ones too! Could you throw out some ramps so I can look on the map I got? Thanks Peter The ones I usually hit would be Williamsport (rather shallow), Taylors (boat ramp is a pain in the butt), Snyders (odd ramp set up but not too bad) and Dargen's (get some jet skiers there but not real bad). Whites Ferry, Nolans Ferry and Brunswick are all good spots from what I hear but have not fished those areas yet. Hope that helps some! Quote

Managed 4 smallies, 2 on a crank and 2 on a tube. Smallest went 16" with the biggest going 18". Glad to see you getting out on the river. We haven't messed with it too much. Think it's a little too high for us. Hopefuuly rain stays low and we can get out on the Potomac. We got out to Sharpsburg Saturdaynight. I caught four and my son caught three. Biggest about a 1 1/2 pounder and smallest about 10/11 inches. Looks like spawn is over there. Also went to Cacapon Park Lake yesterday. Only caught one but it was my best so far this year. Guessing close to three pounds...looked like a female ready to drop eggs soon. Also got out to Middletown last weekend. Looks like spawn there is long over or hasn't started. Water was pretty cloudy but didn't see any signs of nesting bass. We might try to get out today after some yard-work. Just want to thank all who served and have served on this Memorial Day Weekend. basser89 Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 Got out this morning for a little while. Went back to dam 4 again. Nothing along the rip rap this morning but down below the "island" I managed 4 smallies, all on shallow running cranks (that's all I took with me). The water is clearing up some, chrome seemed to be the color they wanted today, tried several other colors but no takers on those. Got another trip set up this afternoon. Hoping to find some largemouths there! Quote
wv Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 My son and I got out last night. I looked at the river some and it looked like it had dropped some so we tried the Potomac at Shepherdstown on MD side. I got my first smallie this year. Just a small guy but put up a good fight. Caught on a green pumpkin tube. Current is still too much for my liking though. We lost some equipment and moved on to Sharpsburg Pond. Wow it's getting full of grass and what-not. My son got a bass on a Yum Dinger. I had an unusual experience...wished we got a picture on this one. I was using a Yum Dinger as well but was at deeper end of the pond. I felt a hit and set the hook. At first I thought I had a decent fish...then nothing...thought I was snagged(doesn;t happen much there)...then felt some movement. Called my son and told him I had something big. First thought it was a big bass hung in some grass but it didn't move like a bass. Then thought it was a snapper. Finally got it wqhere we could see i8t and it was a huge catfish. We got it to shore and couldn't pull it up with the rod. We grabbed thew line and lifted but ti broke off taking the Dinger and hook. Looked like it was hooked on the loweer side. Just guessing it was noless than 8 pounds and maybe 10 pounds. Not sure what kind of cat it was...belly was mostly white with dark spots. Top of fish was darker. Wished we got a picture. Quote

dcfdpipeman Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 worse fishing story ever! Fishing trip planned in VT for smallmouth fishing near Canada.. 6 months in advance. Record lunkers in this lake. Been fishing same weekend for 5yrs. House rented on lake with dock. Brother, Cousin, friends all geared up! Bought a nice 2002 Tracker Pro Crappie that was basically given to me. Saved up, searched for the holy grail of deals and got one. While attaching a NEW minnkota on the front, it's starts to rain.. Then a Tornado hits my brothers house. My boat is ruined - owned less than 6hrs, never got to sit in it or use it. My brother boat is ruined... Tracker 175 About $100k of damage to his house, etc. But we lived through a F3 direct hit tornado. 4 died. Unreal!! Just got done 3 days of cutting trees to help with access at my brothers house. Came home last night 7yr daughter devastated by boat being destroyed but happy I am home.. Life goes on! Quote

Hope you can re-group and get another boat, etc. You are right to be thankful you made it through the tornado without injury. Take care. Hopefully insurance can replace your boat and brother's house and you can make another fishing trip soon. Quote

Came home last night 7yr daughter devastated by boat being destroyed but happy I am home.. Life goes on! I'm so sorry to hear this! Glad everyone is ok! Had a close call with a tornado and my boat too several weeks back. Had it stored at my dad's place along with his tracker and a 14' jon boat that he has too. Had an F1 tornado come through, fortunately it came over the back side of the ridge that my dad lives on and lifted off the ground when it went over dad's place. My boat and dad's tracker never moved, dad's jon boat was turned around. All three boats were side by side. Really shocked that my trailer jack didn't break with the wind (need to replace it sometime soon). Quote
Basser714 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 DCFD - good lord, what bad timing getting your new boat just 6 hours before a f'in F3 rolls in. Jeez. But you survived to fish another day, so call yourself lucky, and keep pounding the shore until you get a new boat sorted out. Stay on that insurance company, as I would be weary that they may try and weasel their way out of covering the boat. Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Thanks Guys... Dealing with insurance this week and hoping for the best. Be nice to be fishing in a boat by summers end. Had a lot of plans for the boat with trips, etc. -Peter Quote
basser89 Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Got out last evening for a little while, did a shoreline trip at Black Hills. Despite the heat, I decided to hit the backwash area. Managed 2 on the trip. First one went 4lb 1oz and the second went 2lbs even. The 4 pounder was caught on a drop shot and the second was caught on a t-rigged ribbon tail worm. Here's a pic of the 4lbr. Sorry for the crappy pic, only had my cell with me. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 9, 2011 Super User Posted June 9, 2011 Nice fish Sean, first good fish I have seen come out of that area for awhile. Hoping to get out Saturday if I can find someone to go with. Prefer not to fish from shore if I can help it. Quote
basser89 Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks Brian. Was really shocked to find her back there in all that heat. She was only sitting in about 2'. Did you make it out saturday? My weekend was booked up so didn't make it out. Hopefully, I'll get out this coming weekend but from the looks of it, that'll be in PA. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 15, 2011 Super User Posted June 15, 2011 Made it out with Hellbenderman, fished from about 6am to 2pm. We caught a decent number of fish but couldn't find any big ones, best was maybe 15 inches. Have a tourney at Mattawomen this weekend, then with fathers day and trying to get ready for a PMP exam I will not any free time to fish. Quote
Fat Boy Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Hey guys, been a while since I posted. Thanks for the welcome. My ankle is recovering OK and have been fishing (part of my PT LOL). Sorry I haven't posted much...plan to be more active. DCFD, sorry to hear about your boat and your brother's house...that stinks. Good luck on the recovery but glad you're OK. Here are some pics from the past few trips: June 12: Susquehanna in PA Here's the view of the storm right before the sky opened up: A couple decent super fluke fish, post thunderstorm: June 11: June 6: Quote
basser89 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Nice pics Fat Boy! Thanks for sharing!!! Quote
Fat Boy Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Nice pics Fat Boy! Thanks for sharing!!! Thanks Sean. I know I'm late, but I had some catching up to do. Nice 6 pounder! Also, Black Hills is about 10 minutes from my home...next time you guys hit the shorelines after work hours let me know. I haven't fished BH yet this year mainly because my ankle wasn't quite ready for uneven surfaces. I think that it's a lot better know and I'm willing to take a risk Quote
Hellbenderman Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Thank God for cameras or we would be driving past the house of everyone we know, honking the horn, and shaking some dead fish at our friends. Quote
