Super User Munkin Posted June 14, 2010 Super User Posted June 14, 2010 We were heading to Blairs Valley with our small jon boat . Bring some Junebug colored worms, dark colored creature baits, buzzbait and a double colorado spinnerbait. Fish the riprap and the point across from the riprap with the wooden pole sticking up. bigdog321 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Thanks alot Hellbender, but that little store on 28 is a barbecue joint now with some pretty good ribs. I will try foxes though. Thanks again. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 You might want to call before you go, as you never know if they are there or not....especially on Sunday. As Boett43 noted, it's a family operation, and very friendly, a Frederick attraction for...hmmmm...well, since...dirt was rocks. Quote
DaveT63 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Hello, everybody. For those in the Frederick area, I'm looking for some info please. I will be coming up to Frederick about mid-day the 24th for a couple days. I was thinking about trying to run up to Harper's Ferry to fish. I've never fished there before. Can anybody give me some pointers about where to try? Also, I've never heard of Fox's, but would love to check it out. Anybody got directions? Just from 270 would be fine. Thanks, Dave Quote

Blairs Valley water is muddy all the time which makes it predictable to me. Dark colored baits like black and junebug work the best. Since the water is warm use baits that have a lot of appendages or movement. Allen Quote
BwickBassHunter Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Hey guys, I Just got back from Vegas. Spent a week there on business. I am hoping to get out with my son in the next couple of evenings. Thanks for the tips. Quote
BwickBassHunter Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Hey Bwick, Thanks for the offer to go out fishing and show me some of the local spots. I'll take you up on that. I just got some new goodies for father's day I need to try out. Let me know when you would like some company and we'll set it up. I look forward to it. Thanks! Quote
wv Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Hope everyone enjoyed Father's Day. My son and I got out late yesterday. My son caught about a 15/16 inch LM at Sharpsburg Pond on Creme worm on first cast. Nothing else in about an hour. Saw some but couldn't get'em to bite. Small pond with lots of grass and slop on top. We then headed down to Rumsey Bridge across from Shepherdstown, WV on MD side. Was kinda slow until about dark and fish starting jumping everywhere. We had some misses on top water lures. I hooked a fish and on second jump it spit lure. River looked real good. Quote
Bwickfisher Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Hey guys, I just got back from the river(Potomac). I caught four smallmouth. Two on a green tube, and two on a black and gold flake Yamamoto double-tail hula grub. They were all about a pound, but still a lot of fun. So, if your going to the river, I suggest crawfish imitations, and work them very slow. BwickBH, I will probably go out again later this week. During the week, I'm free after 3 or 4pm. Anytime on the weekends. Let me know what's good for you. Quote
Boett43 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Where on the potomac did you hit? is the water still muddy? Quote
wv Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 We got out last night on Potomac on MD side across from Sheperdstown and near the Conococheague Sportsman Club. River there is low and clear. I hooked three fish but they shook free before I got them in to shore. Quote
Bwickfisher Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I was fishing from the bank here in brunswick, about a quater mile down from the boatramp. The water is pretty clear now. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Brian and I did the BH night fish and did very well thank you, arriving at 3 and leaving at 11:45, finding fish during the day primarily at 10-15 feet and dusk/dark at 2-8. Top water bite, senkos, craws. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 Yeah, had a good and fun time fishing BH with Hellbender last night. Just kind of funny how we kept going to new spots, have a flurry of activity then have it disappear quickly. The double we had after dark was fun... Quote
basser89 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Jealous I be! I swear, one of these days I'll actually be able to get back out there! Glad you 2 had some action last evening! Quote
Smiths.R Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I am thinking about hitting the Potomac tomorrow; I'll be going near the Bridge at Harpers Ferry. Anyone been around there lately? Last time I was there, it was VERY high and VERY stained. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 28, 2010 Super User Posted June 28, 2010 Was on the potomac last friday out of Whites Ferry. Water is way down, and in the mid 80's, could not find any grass in areas which is usually full of it. Managed a few small bass but not what we were looking for. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 Please see my desperate cry for Maryland fishing....LOL Quote
zim Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 hoping to do a float Mon. morn Any report on conditions of the Potomac or Monocacy would be welcome. USGS guages are looking extremely low and I'm concerned it may be more of a trickle than riffles from Brunswick to POR TIA Quote
Smiths.R Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I was at Harpers Ferry this past Tuesday. Water is pretty low, and quite warm. I got skunked...didn't know that was possible on that river! Quote
Hellbenderman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Had a good catch at BH on Tuesday and Saturday. None caught in less than 15 feet and all offshore. Quote
wv Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 My son and I got out last night. Started at Sharpsburg...90% covered in slop...and we moved on to Brownsville Pond. Caught a nice LM and I'm guessing 3-4 pounds on a Strike King crankbait. Black back, red-sided and yellowish belly with black stripes I also noticed my gold-sided crankbait still in the tree there. :-[ We then stopped at the Potomac and fished on MD side near Rumsey Bridge. Near dark fish were jumping all over the place. We missed about 10 fish on a Tiny Torpedo(frog color) and a small black Jitterbug. Even had a small guy jump and hit the Torpedo and spit it out in the air. Got a picture of the fish at Brownsville and a few others we have caught. Tried to post them but got an error message that said file too big. Anyone that's got an idea as to how to fix the problem...please tell us. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth as well. River is real low...not sure about temp but it is pretty low near Shepherdstown and clear. Quote
MichaelA Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Hi everyone, I just joined. Im in Montgomery Co, MD. Kind of new to fishing, tried some of the lakes out, but don't have a boat so find it hard to catch anything. Can anyone recommend a good lake thats good for shore fishing, or some out of the way small ponds that are good too. Just got back today from trying out part of the Rocky Gorge off RT 29/Old Columbia rd, which was a bust, too muddy off the banks and seems too shallow in the places I can get to without a boat. Been to Lake Needwood a few times, just went to Cooper lake in Seneca Creek park but the bank is so weed filled I cant cast out far enough to catch anything. same thing for MLK pond in White Oak. I was going to go up to Columbia, MD tomorrow morning and try the 2-3 small places they have there, and maybe rent a kayak sometime at some lake. I know Needwood rents them but I haven't had any luck there at all. Wish I could find some private out of the way fishing pond that isnt too big but still good. Shore fishing is hard! Thanks! Quote
