lake Kittamaqundi is kind of hard to fish, so many folks over there fishing. Are you fishing from the main dock?

Posted

Well I'd never fished there before, so I scoped it on google earth and walked out along the east side in order to fish the (probably) less fished side. I saw what I think were loads of bedding bass cutting wakes as I dragged spinners and tubes over their heads, but I couldn't get any of them to bite. The east side has some nice structure though, and that's where I got the two dinky smallmouth.

The water there was extremely turbid when I went, probably because of the heavy storms that rolled through a few days ago. The little patuxent watershed that feeds it is pretty messed up in terms of runoff and encumberment, so I imagine the water gets pretty nasty every time it rains. The bottom was loads of squishy silt over top of a rocky bottom.

East side of the lake will get messy if it rains, and that's probably why folks stay near the docks. I have caught a few on lipless at the main dock, if you can get there early in the morning to lock a spot...haha!

I see small residential ponds all over the place, but I'm kind of wary of rolling up to someone's house and asking them to use their pond. From experience, crotchety old men with ponds can be rather crotchety.

Smiths, have you caught any latley and what do you think the rain will do to the fish, might be fishing there tommorow

I was out there this evening dragging everything I could think of around, and didn't get a sniff all evening. Water was like glass until sunset, and it was drizzling on and off all evening.

I just joined. I bought a 1760 jet last fall.  I fish the Potomac in MD, the Susky in PA, and now the New in VA. I'd rank them in reverse of that listing.

I'm heading down to the New next week for a two-day guided trip. I can't wait.

Loch Raven has been slow for me lately...lots of Pickerel, but not so many bass.

I was out in the rain the other day, and not a single hit from a bass.

On another note, has anyone been on the Potomac lately?  Going this friday, and wondering if it's warm enough to wade in yet.

Went out to loch raven again today. Caught a small LM on a white/chart spinner. Talked to some other guys, been slow for them too lately. Should pick up this weekend when it gets warm and thunderstormy though.

The Potmac is definitely warm enough to wade in. I was in Harpers Ferry this past weekend and we got to do a little fishing. Between my girlfriend and I, we cought 18 smallies. They were all rather small but it was still a blast!

Welcome to THE boards MountAiryEd!

Ventured out last evening for a little while. Didn't have a lot of time so I only hit the C&O at Williamsport. No luck what so ever. Did see a few dinks cruising around near the shore but that was it.

Headin to Black Hills at lunch time today. Hopefully, I can break out of this funk I'm in right now and report something! LOL!

Well, I did what I said and hit Black Hills at lunch today. Decided to just fish off the tubes down at the backwash area. Only had my spinning rod with me and 2 boxes of plastics. Decided to go with a drop shot today. Managed two dinks (both were around 10") but the good thing is they were my first 2 bass ever on a drop shot! I did see a couple of bass in the pound and a half to two pound range as well as one I'm guessing right around the four and a half to five pound range. Those bigger ones were all just cruising around from tube to tube. I tried casting infront of a couple of them but no takers.

New guy wading in.... In reading this Maryland thread I was surprised how many of you guys are local. Also impressed with how much honest information is being shared. I live in Washington County and do most of my Bass chasing at Big Pool and Rocky Gap. I wade the river when I have time but have really only scratched the surface there.

Welcome Browtine!!!

There are a few guys in the area, and a few meet up sometimes to do a little fishing. Good luck.

Doesn't look like a fishing day today. My son and I got out last Sunday. Started in Sharpsburg Pond and caught one on a crankbait. Saw some more but couldn't get them to bite. Headed to Middletown and my son got one on a Yum Dinger. Saw some bass on beds but were hard to get to bite. I really like this pond except for some floating stuff. Tried Brunswick Pond and saw nice fish but it was tight to shore with a lot of slop on top nearby. Did see about 40 dead catfish floating on top...not sure what's going on there. Stopped at Brownsville on way home and lost my favorite crankbait in a tree. :-[ Had pictures of the two we caught but were too big to post...maybe someone can give me some tips or help to post them. We were gonna try the Little Pool area today but not sure how that will go weather-wise. Welcome to the new members. This is a great place to talk and learn fishing. Mt Airy Ed...I think I recognize you from Fishing Maryland - no? I got kinda locked out of that site and could never get back in to post...probabaly best thing that happened because I found this place.

Welcome to THE boards Browtine!

Brian and I hit Big Pool for the first time this year at the beginning of May. Have the levels dropped back down to normal yet? When we were there, that was the highest I had ever seen the place.

wv, sounds like you did a bunch of running and gunning there. Haven't been to the pond in Sharpsburg in quite some time. Can't believe its not choked out with grass yet.

There are bass here in Warshingtun Countee Merryland?  :D

Don't overlook Cunnigham Falls of Greenbrier as I have pulled 6+lb bass out of both of them.

Basser89 - We didn't get out to Big Pool due to weather concerns. Yeah - We did some running. :D The Sharpsburg Pond has a lot of some kind of greass covering 95% of the bottom. The water is very clear. You can see bass on top of the grass and if you spot a hole in the grass seems like it has a bass in it. It's small but close to us. Munkin - We will check out Cunningham some time soon I expect. Been real happy with my non-resident license...may just not get my resident WV next year...we only fish one place a lot and that's Cacapon State Park. Although I did catch the bass of my lifetime there not long ago. We may go out this evening if the weather is decent.

I took my friend Amanda to brownsville on Saturday, for her first ever fishing experience. She got the casting down pretty quickly, then caught a nice 3 lb bass! I'm pretty sure she'll be fishing again.

Cool deal! Congrats to Amada! That's a better than average bass for that place! What did she catch it on?
