Mine is a little bigger than yours (1648 jonboat). That would save you a little in gas money towing it all the way up there. Either way is good with me, but we can work out those details when it gets closer. I haven't been there yet this year but with Cunningham usually running cooler than most lakes around here, there's a chance we could possibly get a decent prespawn bite yet! Quote

basser89 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Yeah, same here! There's another small lake west of me (Big Pool) that I will be hitting that week too. I'm hoping for the best there on water temps but that lake typically has a stained tint to it so I'll just have to play it by ear. If the conditions are right on that lake, I'll be taking the musky rod with me! Not for musky but for throwing some of my big swimbaits! I've hooked some really nice bass in there too and want to give them a BIG meal now! Â ;D Quote

Â You can fish near Scott's Cove (launch ramp/moored boat area ) and around Suplee ramp. Â There was a ramp off of Brown's Bridge road but I've heard they closed it a year or two ago. Â It was very shallow up there. Â That said, it was a decent place to fish years ago, but I haven't fished Brown's area in at least 5 years. Â I've never fished from shore at Rocky Gorge, always from a boat. Â Permits are available on Brighton Dam road at the guard house. Â They really went up in price this year. Â The annual is $60, the daily use is $5. Â Quote
Boett43 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I live in Frederick and Work All over MD, Pool Service guy lol, I fish mostly the potomac and monocacy, sometimes cunningham or black hill. Ive been tearing it up at dickerson in early april. Caught a nice 4lber off its bed in the C&O canal, and pulled two 3 1/2lb smallies out of dickerson, If anyone fishes dickerson deffinitly try and pick up some Roboworms in Prizm Kraw They tear them up down there  Quote

Got a 20in LM from the canal on a Rage toad also. Hopefully after tomorrow when I go on vacation for two weeks I will be hitting as many of those spots. With the recent rains not sure how much the Potomac will be good. Quote

basser89 Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 I've fished the C&O canal at Dickerson for a handful of years now but never gave it any real serious consideration until this year. The best I've managed out of the canal has been a 4 pounder as well but I have seen a couple that would have gone in the 5-6 pound range. Thanks for the heads up on what they're hitting! Boett, Since you live in Frederick, have you tried the pond in Middletown at the park? There's some good ones in there too! Just a heads up on Middletown, before all the rain lately, I was seeing a good amount of bass on the beds there. If the rain didn't cool the pond down too much, we could be looking at a post spawn pattern there. Â I actually like it when the Potomac is very high! Won't take the boat out but I have a couple of spots I'll hit from shore. The high fast water puts the smallies in some really predictable places. Tubes and senko style baits tear them up then! Not your seceret bait just a general idea lol The one fountain (furthest from the spillway) is relatively shallow, if I had to guess I'd say around 3'. The other one has a little more depth to it. I can tell you there are some above average bass in there! My top producing baits at Middletown are spinnerbaits (DUH! ;D ), weightless t-rigged senko style baits, lipless cranks, jitterbugs and walk the dog style baits. My biggest bass out of middletown came on a t-rigged Brush Hog. I'll leave the colors up to you. Hope this helps! Hey, if you happen to see me there, stop and say hey! Quote

Was up there on Friday and the weeds have pretty much filled it up, and the surface is almost all green from algae. Â Not sure about other places on the canal, maybe someone else will speak up. Quote

The only other section of the C&O canal that I know of that has bass in it is right at Williamsport. Unfortunately, the conditions are about the same there as well. Â :-/ Quote

Feel free to shoot me a pm There's a couple spots I hit, besides in the park itself. One is off Wynnfield Dr. Looking at Black Hills, with Lake Churchill (a private lake) behind you, park on the left hand side of the road. There's a path that'll take you down around the lake. You can fish on the rip rap but BE CAREFUL! There's been a lot of snakes in the rocks there! Another spot is up by the bridge on 121. The other spot I hit on occassion is back off Old Baltimore Road (across 121). You go back Old Baltimore Rd a little ways and look for Ten Mile Creek Rd. Its a gravel road that only goes back a little ways. Its a little bit of a hike back there! Hope this helps! Quote

If you are heading from the bridge towards 270 there is a pull off area about 1/4 mile up on the right which you can walk in. If you go into the park you can go down to the boat ramp and walk around there. Otherwise there are lots of areas you can park and walk the trails which line the lake. Quote

I like to fish coves and small areas because I use plastic worms and I like spots where I can use hollow-body frogs. If you can't think of any spots that would fit that, then just suggest any good spots. Any help is appreciated. Quote
warwickforlife Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I fish Loch Raven around four or five times a week. Â There are all sorts of great spots to fish there. Â There is a nice cove just before the bridge on Dulaney Valley Road. Â There is also tons and tons of structure off of Providence Road. Â I caught a nice one down there this morning actually; maybe 16 inches or so. Â Water is crystal clear, so you can see them sitting on nests, or just trolling along. Quote

I live in Laurel, and my wife and I are shore fishers since we lack a boat lol. We have fished the triadelphia reservoir, and a little lake in laurel, and I think we even made it out to seneca lake once. the only thing we have caught so far are a couple of small catfish in laurel lake, otherwise notta.
