basser89 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Did anyone make it to the Timonium fishing expo? I lucked out with the truck and picked it up this morning! I made it over to the expo about 10:30. I met up with jake and basschamp35 and was over in the seminar area most of the day. I was pretty disappointed with the expo this year. Peter T did put on a pretty good seminar on carolina rigging and I got a free Optimum swimbait but there just wasn't anywhere near as much there this year as in years past. Luckily, since I was out that way, I stopped in at BPS afterwards and spent some Christmas gift cards on some much needed baits! ;D If anyone was there and saw someone walking around in a Bass Resource sweatshirt, that was me. Had to represent!!! Quote
hjerk24 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I was there around 11---and also saw Peter T. He was good and I enjoyed what he said. he could of had a few visuals, and something in the way of equipment. Just makes the presentation a bit more....rich. The show other than that was a bit lame. The number of booths, and equipment was very minimal. I did enjoy the Susquehanna Tackle Co booth. Had a KVD new rod in hand, but guilt crept in, and I put it back. they are sure sweet!!!! It would have been my most $ rod to date, but man did it feel nice. I am on a very tight budget, so all the other rods were a bit out of reach...especially the first St Croix I picked up, and was over $275.....OUCH..but nice. Hit Bass pro in Harrisburgh on the way home, and had a nice time there....but what a poor selection of Rods there...pretty weak. All in all a great day, with great fellowship with Friends. God Bless- Jamie Quote
dave Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 This was my 23rd year attending. It was awful. One tackle shop. Only two of the three halls used. One named pro, all other presenters were local guides. I was at the seminar when you got the swim bait. Bought a few Big Mouth spinnerbaits and some Mizmo tubes. I've been fishing both for years. Good baits. Went to Bass Pro in Hanover on the way home. Best part was spending the day with my dad. Back in the day, you couldn't walk around without squeezing through the crowds for the first 3 hours. Line to get in would be over 100 yards long. I got there at 9:00, bought my ticket and walked in. Hope to get to a few of the smaller flea market type shows but, two have been canceled already due to poor vendor sign up. The show in Upper Marlboro and one in Dales City, VA. Hope to get to Sykesville and Pasadena. Pasadena is a two day show. Quote
basser89 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Well shoot! I wish I would have seen you guys! It would have been great to meet you two! hjerk, I checked out that KVD crankbait rod too! All I can say is WOW! dave, what time were you at BPS? I think I got over there a little after 5 and left about 7. Had to resist the Bait Monkey from spending any more $$ than I did! ;D I didn't buy anything at the expo but picked up some crankbaits, a bunch of tubes, a jerkbait and 2 packs of Rage Tail 10" Anacondas (can't wait to try them out)! Quote
hjerk24 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I picked up a pointer 100 at the show...shad colored. Also two small cranks from Strike King...yes a sexy shad shallow diver, and a shallow diving white crank from SK. Got a bit of hot sauce and reel grease at BPS. Also got a BPS rod...49.99...6'6" Medium with a fast tip. All in all, a great trip. Followed a guy from Timonium to BPS towing a Stratos with the white shrink cover. By the time he got there, it was torn, and smothered in road gunk. Wondered if it was to be cleaned up, and put out on the floor. Guy had Virginia plates, and it had a 50hp on the back. Truck was aToyota with a BPS sticker on the sides...so I assumed it was a 09' model for the show room....good luck cleaning that...salt and grime...yuck! Peace- Quote
brian_82 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 The Timonium show was worthless IMO. But seems I too did the favorable thing of stoping by bass and picking up some new gear Quote

basser89 Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Has anyone else been out recently? I've managed 2 outings this month. :-/ I've hit the two power plants that are close to me. While my first outing was only for an hour and fifteen minutes (not to mention, freakin COLD! LOL!), it was action packed hour and fifteen minutes. I caught 18 smallies on jerkbaiits and crankbaits. My second trip wasn't as productive (only one smallie on a crankbait), mostly due to the area being slammed with anglers. Surprisingly, I've tried tubes on both occassions which is usually one of my top producing baits this time of year, but haven't had any takers (just a bunch of panfish peckin at the tails). Quote
Fish MD Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Live in Hardford county and fish a couple of Reservoir only clubs out my G3 with a 60 volt Ray...baby can clock 7 MPH. Quote
BornXEyed Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 It's great to be back! Been a long while since I last logged on. I've since moved from Arnold to Crownsville, Md., essentially making the Severn my home river now. Still fish my pet lakes on the Eastern Shore (I love Unicorn in Millington!) and fish Annapolis Waterworks Park and Patuxent Ponds Park regularly. Haven't been out since late-December though. Big news is I recently bought a old Starcraft 12' jon, that I'll be fixing up for this season. Should be a nice little thing that'll get me on some bigger water more comfortably, such as Loch Raven. Well, I look forward to getting back into the swing of things this coming spawn and swapping tales. Til next lunker, James Quote
Adi Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I usually fish Unicorn, Waterford, and Elkhorn Lake. I live in Glen Burnie and work in DC. I have fished the Potomac by the power plant but only caught a catfish with a huge treble hook in it. Luckly or unfortunatley for me I live very close to BPS and spend way to much money there. BornXEyed let me know if you ever need company when heading over to the Eastern Shore. (Unicorn does rock) Quote
basser89 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Welcome back BornXEyed! Welcome to THE boards Adi! It's not as bad for me with BPS since I'm over here in Washington county. Bad thing is, I have two options then. I'm an hour and fifteen mintes from the Hanover store and an hour and thirty minutes from the Harrisburg store. Both are just far enough away to keep the temptation down somewhat but close enough if I need something bad! ;D Quote
Adi Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Unfortunately for me it's only 10-15 minutes away. Thank you for the welcome. Quote
BAMA_BASS Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 First off want to seay hello yall. I am currently living in Wheaton from ALABAMA. And this weather is throwing me for a loop. When is the best time to hit the lakes for the BASS here (largemouth) I have recently discovered Senneca and Black Hills are these decent places? And where are some good spots in my area? I don't have a boat up here so I am kinda limited to bank fishing which is fine. Quote
Other. Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Little Seneca is a great lake. There is a stump field that I really like but I loose a lot of my lures in there. There is also Clopper Lake close by which is also good I just don't fish it enough to know it well enough. Quote
basser89 Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Hey BAMA_BASS, Welcome to our neck of the woods! I've only fished Senneca a handful of times so I can't really comment about it. I've heard there are some decent fish in there but none on the end of my line. Since I work in Germantown, I get to fish Black Hills a good bit. The spawn usually occurs around the first week of May (I base that off of about 12 years worth of fishing there). There are some really good bass in there. The biggest I've landed out of there is a 22", 5lb 5oz chunk but I've seen and have had a couple on in the 7-8lb range. The lake gets poluted with hydrilla in the summer which makes shore fishing challenging for sure but its still managable in a few areas. Fair warning, there are tiger muskies in Black Hills and I've caught several out of there on spinnerbaits and crankbaits. I've had a couple on, on RatLTraps and Brush Hogs too. Needless to say, I was on the losing end of thier teeth on those. About mid to late March is usually when I start seeing more action there. Hope that helps some! I'm sure a few more can comment on Black Hills and a couple of the other lakes in the area as well! Sean Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted February 16, 2009 Super User Posted February 16, 2009 Bama_bass, I don't have the experience of Basser89 on Black Hills but have been fishing there the last two years. There are some real nice fish there and it has a lot of bank access, you may have to walk a little. There are also some nice crappie throughout the lake, which is why the tiger musky were put there a few years ago to control that population. I have seen musky in the mid to high 40 inch range caught. As far as bank fishing spots, hard to say you can park at a couple spots close to the bridge on 121. Once inside the park there are parking lots and trails around a good portion of the lake. Quote

Sean Wouldn't Black Hills and Seneca be the same lake I know Black Hills is actually called Little Seneca Creek lake. I did a google on Seneca lake and and Seneca Creek State Park/Clopper lake came up for it. Are we all confused now? LOL! Quote
Other. Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yes very confused. Thought I was missing out on some lake I never heard about before. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/021609_body_found_montgomery_county_lake Happened yesterday. Quote
basser89 Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Hey Other, Truely sad! I'm guessing Clopper is not set up like Black Hills where you can not put a boat on the lake until March 1st??? 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted February 18, 2009 Super User Posted February 18, 2009 I don't think Clopper has that restriction, you can only put in boats you can carry. There is no ramp for trailered boats. Sad to hear someone lost their life. Was a rather odd 24 hours in this area, the night before a 47 year old lady walked into highway traffic and was struck a couple of times, early reports say it was a suicide. A lot of people are having rough times right now. Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'm new to Maryland, moved here to Andrews AFB. I am orignally from WV and I currently live in St. Mary's County. Most people fish for Rockfish and don't care two bits about Largemouth. Should be easier to catch em right? I'll let ya know... Adam Quote
basser89 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Tear 'em up Adam! If memory serves me right, there's a couple of board members on here from down your way so you should be able to get some local advice! Keep us posted on how you do! Sean Quote
