I hit a spot in Charles County, and The sun actually came out for a couple of hours before the thunders storms chased me away. Ground out a few on a Bandit 200, spinnerbait and popper.

I did hit a pond on the way to the grocery store.  Had one one but she hit right at the bank and managed to jump off before I could lip her.  I got a few other hits punching through shoreline pads but could never set the hook.  

 

Going to hit Centennial tomorrow right after rush hour.  I have never made it past the dam, so I am gonna circle that lake if I have to jog the last half to keep from getting locked in.  I find as I improve as a fisherman my hiking mileage is dropping as I tend to fish a given spot longer.

Were you planning on going to Centennial over the weekend? Can meet up if you'd like. I live in White Marsh - so its about 45mins drive for me.

Centennial is going to be pedal boat city this weekend.  However, pm and I can share a handful of my columbia/elkridge ponds with anyone here.

Yeah, I'm not even going to try to fish this weekend. Between the weekend warriors, duck feeders, rock skippers, and yak tools, its too much of a cluster for me.

Had a decent if lopsided day at Centennial.  Got there just before 9am to find that it was already getting full, every fishing spot visible from the ramp was full of guys.  Fortunately the dam was empty so I hurried over.  The wind killed my attempts at the lizard, even moving up to a 3/8oz sinker I could not keep my lure on the bottom consistently.   Switched to a Chartreuse Shad spinnerbait and immediately started catching.  Got five small ones walking the length of the dam and lost a nice one right in the grass on the far end.  I fished all the easy spots on my way around the lake.  The lizard got not even a nibble, but every time I tied on the spinnerbait I could get another small bass.  I tried a swim jig for a bit but I got more bumps than hits so moved back to the spinner.  Ended up with about twelve bass, none of them larger then 14-15" and most closer to 12".  My best fish came at the end when I was back at the ramp.  I kept getting bumped right in front of the little pier so I went to the car and grabbed a rod with a wacky senko tied on.  Caught one on my first cast, which seemed to impress the hell out of the worm-soakers who were watching.  Fished for about 8 hours and sadly any exercise was negated by the discovery of the snack counter by the boat rental.  

 

Even crowded it's a nice lake.  The dropoff is a lot steeper than I thought it would be for most of the shoreline, going to have to drag my yak out there some day, once I get an anchor rig installed.

As others have said, this weekend anywhere that isnt 3 miles from parking is going to be a madhouse.  But I would love to meet up sometime.  We are about to hit the best time of year for wet wading and there are a lot of good spots along the Patapsco River.  Remember, if you are waist deep in water, the ticks can get you!

Whatever works haha... at the moment though all I have for equipment is a ton of lures and two baitcasting rods lol. I def. want to try loch raven or liberty but trying to go with a partner if its going to be on a boat.

 

Just tried to do some google maps pond finding and I got skunked yesterday and today... demoralizing sigh lol. I think I might just stick with Ellicott City/Columbia until some friends want to do reservoir boating.

Haha.  That d**n snack shop will kill you.  Btw, that cove is a great spot.

 

Generally though the north banks, especially by the bridge, is where I tend to fish. 

 

With the d**n, I just bang the snot out of the rocks with the cheapy squarebills; that entire stretch is usually good for about 3-5 bass.  Now that point by the bench (far end of the dam) has grass all over.  You can run topwater all day there but I seem to get the most action with the ridiculous booyah clacker buzzbaits.

Caught this smallmouth on the Upper Potomac over the weekend.  Only about 13.5 inches, but check out the tail.  Also on one side right below the dorsal fins, it looks like it had been stabbed, and there's another mark on the other side.  Maybe tussled with a boat prop or trolling motor?  Definitely a healthy fish otherwise because it fought like a typical smallmouth.

LUCKY You ..I have never caught a snake head and I have been trying to get them to hit my lures but they always grab others

I hit on in the head with a nose hooked 3" tube full of megastrike the last time I was there.   It just swam off with no real reaction.  It was maddening.

That is my dilemma when I fish there, too lazy to carry two rods, but also like chasing smallies enough that I have a hard time giving them a pass.  I will have to grab some cheap spinnerbaits and have at them some day. 

 

Finally got a fish on a Skinny Dipper.  Got this little guy ripping one through grass.

Lost a spinnerbait AND a chatterbait today! That just doesn't happen.

Oh, and I've been out local the last couple of days catching 6-12 fish per outing up to about 3 lbs. on the aforementioned and a crank.  I need to get my head straight.

Got my pb large mouth at Triadelphia before it shut down.  Trying to find another spot with decent sized fish.  Heard Rocky Gorge is almost impossible to shore fish now.  Did good a Elkhorn Friday morning but its hard to go from avg 2.5 to 1's and be happy about it lol.

Hey all I'm Kevin. Just moved to Laurel from the Philly area. Took my kayak out to Cash Lake yesterday and got the skunk. Looks like there's a bit more fishing pressure in this area than back home. I've been using Google Maps to mark a lot of fishy places, so hopefully my luck changes soon!

 Cash Lake is really tough, but a kayak is the key to having success there.   The ponds in the North Track and be decent, especially the ones that are a couple miles from parking. 

 

Laural is a pretty good location as you are centrally located and have a lot of options within 30 to 60 minute drive. All that snakehead chat earlier on this page is from a spot just north of Laurel.

Minnow: Thanks for the welcome! There are certainly many more fishing options here than SE PA. Let me know if you ever want to meet up for some pond hoppin. 

Bunnielab: I lived in Korea (where snakeheads are from) for a couple years and never caught one, but plenty of largemouths. Go figure. I hear snakeheads are pretty good eating too. I think next weekend I'll either try Bowie State or take a hike in the refuge.
