BMBass Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Jtrout I fished all over but mainly in Annapolis. Spro BBZ-1 Rat did work this morning! I'm done with catching 2-4lbers...big baits, big fish, it has now become an addiction. 2 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 4, 2016 Super User Posted July 4, 2016 Good lord, those are some nice fish. 1 Quote

Fried Lemons Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I target bass at the C&O canal but with the amount of time I spend down there I can't help but notice this year the increase in the snakehead population. The first sightings of the fish in the canal were last year. This year I've been seeing juvenile to small sized snakehead at least once a week. Below is the largest one I have seen or caught out of there. Amazing how fast they grow. 24" and stuffed with eggs 3 Quote
Logan S Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Lot's of Elite Series pros fishing the river this week. Shared some water with Cliff Pace and also saw Tak and Adrian Avena last weekend. Saw Ike, Hank Cherry, Carl Jocumsen, Jason Christie, and Davy Hite yesterday. If you want a chance to bump into them hit the river this week, I think it's the last week before it goes off limits for their August event. As for a report...The river was a little tough this weekend, but it's still 100% better than it has been the last 2 years. Frog, spinnerbait, and chatterbait accounted for most of the fish in my boat. Winning weight in our tournament was 13-6 (which was me ) and it was close with a lot of 10 to 12 lb limits weighed. 2 Quote
Fried Lemons Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I needed a reprieve from the summer heat so I mixed some wading into my usual routine. I usually try to wade to the edge of the main channel but the water was higher than it was last year at this time. I was able to find fish holding in the deeper pools between the boulders. Any water I deemed too deep to safely wade across was fair game. I caught 6-7 fish in the 12-17.5" range within a 30 minute wade. The largest fish made 4 drag pulling runs in very shallow water. 1 Quote
patred Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Looks like the right lure to use ... near Dam 4 Friday night, six on the same TRD finesse worm, one on a Shadow Rap, one on a Berkley Gulp crawler and a catfish on the crawler, too. Pat 2 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 Very nice guys. I took my GF out wading by Daniels Dam on Saturday. The smallies were not a bity as they usually are, with only a few tiny ones caught. The Redbreasts were more accommodating, and she caught a couple and more importantly, is now confident in releasing her own fish, which is a good progress. It's ironic, I live right by the Bay, but all my interests are freshwater these days, so I end up driving an hour or more for every serious trip. I gotta get out to the canal/Potomac more often, butt the beltway is a powerful disincentive. Quote
fromTHEbank Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Noob here.... I have fished a few times at Swains Lock and have had some good luck l, but just small fish, but super fun. I also caught a snakehead there recently. Ill post a pic once I figure it out. Are there any other areas on the canal that are similar to Swains? Quote
Fried Lemons Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Very different from Swain's but the widewater area by Old Angler's Inn holds the biggest bass in the C&O. The trouble is finding the fish. During the spawn I caught many 3+ fish holding in a certain spot but they are no longer there. Old Angler's has been low so I am positive that the fish are all confined to the widewater section. They are probably holding deep right now but if you can make it around dusk they can be caught shallow on topwater. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 12, 2016 Super User Posted July 12, 2016 I have been meaning to drag my kayak out to Widewater for months but have never done it. I really need to try it sometimes, so much of that area isnt accessible from shore. Quote
BigTerp Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 For those of you who fish the Landers area from the Lock 29 boat ramp what's the lowest it is boatable to? Fished it a week or so ago at 2.5' at Point of Rocks and had no problems running with my jet. Probably going to be closer to 1.5' by the weekend when I plan to get back out. Quote
Fried Lemons Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 2 fish caught on consecutive casts over a weed bed. Missed a third from the same spot. Not as large as the one from last week but more typical of the fish I normally see swimming around this sector. Pretty sure there were more but they were spooked off. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 13, 2016 Super User Posted July 13, 2016 Man, I was going to do a half day tomorrow and go wade NW Branch, but you are making me want to hit the canal. How is the water clarity? Quote
Fried Lemons Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 2-3ft, about as good as it gets around here. Quote
Bwickfisher Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Stick worms are getting it done! That's almost all I've used on my last three outings. I don't know why the pics are sideways on here. Quote
JeepFisher Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Been fishing Lake Elkhorn mostly the last couple weeks. Best has been a 2.3lber Elkhorn bass but I know there are some bigger ones in there. Thinking about trying a pond /Lake to put my yak in this weekend. Anyone have any recommendations? Thinking about trying Lake Roland as its been a few years since the drainage. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 15, 2016 Super User Posted July 15, 2016 I have been fishing Cash Lake from shore a bit lately. Caught one in the 2-3lb range and a few in the 1lb neighborhood. Most of the guys I talk to there say about the same thing, that there are big bass in the lake but the extremity limited shore access makes it hard to catch them. I do see guys in small boats or yaks from time to time, but most of them seem to be after crappie. There is a huge stump/pad field on the far side from the bank fishing area, it might be worth checking out. You need a free parking permit to fish there, you can get it from the Park headquarters down the road. I have also caught some nice pickerel out of there, but I don't know if that is a plus or minus for you. 1 Quote
JeepFisher Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Thanks Bunnielab! I have tried there a couple times and was skunked one time and caught one little one the next time. With that said I didnt take my yak so that is a good idea I may try out. I just went and got my permit for waterworks so may try that instead tomorrow. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 15, 2016 Super User Posted July 15, 2016 Which Waterworks are you talking about, the one in Annapolis? Also, I hit Cash this afternoon. Skunked, but had a bunch of blow up on my fluke on top of the pads. Some guys in a canoe must have had and lost a good one, I heard it jump and splash back in from across the lake, then their "disappointment" carried across the lake as well. Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted July 15, 2016 Super User Posted July 15, 2016 Huh, I thought it was closed. How does one get a permit? Quote
JeepFisher Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Go to the Pip Moyer Recreation Center on the 15th of the month (with your id to prove you are a Annapolis or AA County Resident) Quote
JeepFisher Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Tried Jackson Pond in Columbia and lost 3 bass on topwater. Think it might be better when its a little cooler... Quote
JeepFisher Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Caught a 1lber at Elkhorn on the Spro Rat at night...then had a good strike and hook up on what felt like a 3lber but he shook it. Next cast, hit a tree and the rat broke?!!? Half the body is gone...looks like I need to invest in one of the wooden rats that several companies make. 1 Quote
