Ive seen pics of a few nice ones come outta there but never got any they also got pickeral there but never caught one seen a pic of a nice 24incher someone caught there. I used crankbaits and trigs. Hit black hills Saturday. 10hr later the lake had me scratching my head. The bite was ok in the morning then fell off. We made our way around to all my go to spots and all but one failed me. Then all the spots I usually stay away from had feisty 10"ers. Exhausted from bass fishing we took a break and filled the cooler with some crappie. Planing on going back in two weeks with my old man. Try to put him on some bass. Here is a pic of the day's best.

Rain for the first few hours then a small window of calm. The wind progressively got worse. My other buddy's went out Sunday. The wind was so crazy Park police told them go ahead and use your engine to navigate around to the areas you want to fish.

Nice, i was unaware of trout in elkhorn. I am sure the larger bass in there like them. In 2 years I have only caught a half dozen or so over 3lbs. Lots of cookie cutter fish though.

Did you catch them on the side with the play ground or the opposite side?

I find it hard with the options around the area, to fish elkhorn anymore after the dredging. I've been once this year, caught two off a lipless, but the pressure there is wild. I've seen too many people leave with bigger bass they've intended to eat. There had to be at least 20 people fishing the last time I was there.

@Jtrout I went to cash lake. The shorelines for the most part were very shallow. Combined with the intense wind, made for tough fishing. Nothing caught between my buddy and I. Then we went to the north tract, lake allen. Completely different feel as the wind had died and the water was very clear compared to cash lake which was very "red". I got a hit off a spook, but that was it. Walked the whole lake throwing topwater, senkos, and 1.0 where I could. My buddy and I were skunked. Fun trip, and I imagine the top water fishing will be great there soon, with all the pads.

Yeah, lake Elkhorn is a bit over fished. I typically go to Rocky Gorge or Loch Raven resv.

I catch alot of fish at elkhorn, even with pressure. Never been to Rocky Gorge. Wouldn't mind going but I have no idea where to be

Rocky gorge will always be my favorite, since growing up fishing it, even though I just started bass fishing specifically there about 4 years ago. Do you bank fish or have a boat? I used to go out of Scott's cove all the time, but beginning last year went out of browns bridge and had a lot of success. It's easy to get out that way with my suped up canoe since it's basically a creek channel. Where do you fish there?

I fish near the browns bridge and fish from the bank. Let me know when you are going there, and maybe we can hook up

If you guys like to fish for crappies, then try the I-29 bridge. Get few dozen crappie minnow and go to town.

Switching gears a little. I am on the Potomac this Saturday for a DE Federation tourney....with the weather the way it is right now how would you guys approach it? Very interested to hear others thoughts. OH tides are high at 930 and low at like 345 so essentially moving water most of the day.

I wouldn't be planning on venturing out on the main river with NW winds @ 20-30 mph that's for sure.  Strong NW winds usually mean low water too, high tide probably won't be 'high' if it even moves at all.

I'd try to grind it out in Mattawoman, assuming you're launching there.  All the usual stuff will hold bass right now...Might also be worth it to head into the no-wake zone if you do it early, it'll get crowded since no one will be leaving the creek.  The first guy to flip/fish a lot of that hard cover is usually rewarded with some fish.

I've got a tournament on Anna on Saturday and all I could think looking at the forecast was "At least I won't be on the River!"  Hoping the forecast changes in our favor, but it's been pretty steady the past couple days :(.

As someone that's run the river on days like that, I can tell you it ain't worth it....Stay local and fish the creek hard.  Good luck!

Tough call even for short run to Chickamuxin...You're still looking at crossing about 3 miles of unprotected water.  The worst part will be from the mouth of Mattawoman to where the main river bank turns south, that area is always churned up like a washing machine when the wind blows.  I guess it comes down to the size of your boat and your experience in the rough stuff.

I fish all over Anna, we launch from High Point Marina usually.  I like mid and down lake, but I'll venture up the rivers occasionally too.

I'll give you a call tomorrow ;).

Went to my favorite somewhat hidden pond today after work for an hour only got one. There was alot of comotion and splashing around that tree and the bank threw a trigged pitboss between the tree and the bank and let it sit a minute went to drag it out and felt weight set the hook.

Update....my draw was in the top 10. A good draw and a great conversation with Logan has put me in a really positive mind set. Gotta execute now. Logan, thanks man. Really nice talking with you.

Yesterday I had a meeting in DC that ran very short, so I decided to hit a few new spots on the way home.

I started at Roseryville State Forest.  There is a small, shallow pond there that looks somewhat promising.  There is little to no shore access on the side nearest the road, but a few paths to downed trees you can stand and cast from.  The water was clear but the wind kept visibility low.  I was throwing a Ned rig and got a few light hits as soon as the lure splashed down, from sunfish or small bass I assume. Between the wind and trying to balance on logs, I was unable to get the hook set on any of the hits.

It's not a very large pond and I don't think I will make a special trip out there, but it seems worth further exploration if I am ever down that way again.

Next I went to Schoolhouse Pond by the Courthouse in Upper Marlboro.  I had high hopes but when I got there it was clear that the water was super low, in places the waterline was 20' from where the bank line used to be.  I fished where I could, but didn't have waders or boots with me and didn't want to leave a shoe in the muck.  I ran into a park ranger as I was leaving and he said that a storm last year ruined the beaver dam that kept the lake filled.  The beavers split and now the lake is maybe a third of it's old size and badly silted in.  The ranger said that there were no plans to fit it and "to write a ton of letters" if we want the lake rehabbed.

The last spot I hit was the Depot pond, behind the Home Depot on 301.  It is large, weed choked, and if the internet is to be trusted, full of huge bass and snakeheads.  I only had a ML rod with me and was very under gunned.  The shore access is pretty awful, but I spent a few hours tossing sawtail worms rigged on weighted T-rig hooks, working them across the mats and trying to guide them into holes.  I had three tail bite offs, two of which were on z-man lures, which must have been snakeheads or LBH's carrying box cutters.  I kept running into an other fisherman who was using a weightless fluke, he had a few blow up, but didn't connect with anything.  The banks are just awful, steep, full of trash and more full of thorns.  Some of the more fruitful looking spots were almost impossible to cast from without risking smacking my rod tip into a tree or bush.  When I come back I am bringing my 5' MH catfish rod and see if I can maneuver that a little better and try my hand at punching.

Saturday after 10am was the easily the worst weather I have ever fished in. It snowed for about and hour, then mixed to small hail and rain. Shortly after that the wind got wicked. Steady 30 at the weigh in. We got 2 fish for just under 6lbs and my partner lost 3 good ones. All our bites were before 10am.
