basser89 Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 You fish the small lake in Middletown park or one of the many ponds around town? I was fishing the one in MIddletown park. I used to have access to a couple private ponds but they have been drained sadly. Quote
Cheeseburger Eddie Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Question.. I live near Ft Meade and was looking for close places I can bass fish. All I have been able to find are places that don't allow gasoline engines. I know the Potomac, but was looking for other places as well. Any suggestions would be awesome. Also, if you are fishing in an electric motor only water, can you use the engine to put the boat back on the trailer? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 16, 2015 Super User Posted September 16, 2015 The only places allowing gas motors in md are deep creek, conowingo, and the potomac. And electric only does not allow big motors to put boat on trailer. But honestly its not that hard, just line it up, get some momentum and lift the electric motor right before the trailer. Helps sometimes to back the trailer in a little deeper. Quote

If your speaking of places like liberty, prettyboy or loch raven reservoirs, you cant even have a gas motor attached to your boat. You also must sign an affidavit stating that the only places your boat will be launched is them three reservoirs, because of the threat of zebra mussels. Now as far as piney run, tridelphia or rocky gorge I dont know the exact rules for them. As far as getting the boat back on trailer I do it all the time with one 55lb minn kota, its really a piece of cake. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 16, 2015 Super User Posted September 16, 2015 The other electric only places you can have an a gas motor just cannot start it. Quote
Cheeseburger Eddie Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I've got an 18 foot ranger. Other than the Potomac, where do you recommend I explore this weekend that is relatively close to the Ft Meade area? The body of water size makes no difference as long as my 18 footer has a spot to launch. I was looking at possibly gun rock/Dundee but was trying to find something more inland. I really want to check out Lake Anna but it's too far of a drive for me this weekend. Trolling motor only is fine. Quote
Fried Lemons Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 It's been a slow week so far but today was better. I fished Violet's Lock for about 90 minutes after work today. I started off waking a spinnerbait along the grass edges. Didn't get any bass but had a ~20" snakehead come out of the grass and swipe at it but unfortunately it was shallow hooked by the trailer hook and came off. Switched to a punching rig and caught 2 largemouth before calling it a day. All of the fish I caught as well as the snakehead were tight to the grass along the towpath. No more than 5ft from the bank. Quote

It has solid fish in it but they are hard to locate. Swing heads, jigs, and shakey heads were the go tos 1 Quote
Logan S Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Tough time of year for Anna, once we get into October it starts to get better. It's worth the drive especially with how tough the River has been fishing. Traffic on 95 in the afternoon/evening coming home does suck though . Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 1st trip here and it was humbling. I got a 3plus off the boat dock on my 4th cast last Saturday before we even got the boat in the water. After we put the boat in i got 2 2plus and another 3lber. I thought it was going to be on for the week. I was able to catch some fish but I really had to work for em. For being on vacation it was pretty stressful. 1 Quote
nastynate Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Made our way down to lake Anna yesterday for our last team tournament with north mountain bass anglers. We launched out of Christopher run campground and fished around the state park but mostly fished in pamunkey creek. Fish we targeted were came from deep points and brush piles near the channel swings. Lots of boat traffick going on but manage to land some fish and loose some fish. Our biggest fish of the day I pulled from a rocky structure using a dirty jig in 34' of water. First time I ever had to fizz a fish and it worked...lol. That fish tipped the scales at 3.5 but with the others we caught on jig, shakey head and mainly drop shot we had a total wimpy weight of 10.1 that was actually enough to take 1st in our tournament. There was also a 82 boat wounded warriors tournament going on that took 19lb to win. Makes you think to yourself what should we have done different. Looks like we will be headed back down in a few week to start pre fishing for the anglers appreciation tournament in October. Need to mark more structure. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 That place has some nice fish in it, locating them was challenging for sure Quote
Jon S Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Hey everyone, figured I'd give a report on Western Maryland, if anyone is up this way. The pike are biting like crazy at Deep Creek, all of various sizes. Anywhere from 8" to 40". It also seems the fish are ready to start going after moving baits, so I think I can finally stop fishing slow. Both my dad and I have caught all fish on red lipless crankbaits (xcalibur one knockers) and crawdad square bills (Cotton Cordell Big O). Going out the next three days so I will report my findings if anything has changed. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 21, 2015 Super User Posted September 21, 2015 The only places allowing gas motors in md are deep creek, conowingo, and the Potomac. You can run gas motors on Jennings Randolph and the Yough. Both aren't any further than Deep Creek. Jennings isn't that great, but the Yough is nice. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 21, 2015 Super User Posted September 21, 2015 Thanks for the info, never actually heard of Jennings Randolph. Just completely for forgot the Yough. Quote
KenLattimore Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Managed to get out at Black Hills on Saturday morning and arrived just before sunrise. I made a mistake that won't be repeated. I use a spinning reel and started to throw a frog, but was too lazy to switch to my extra spool with braid. Well, you can probably guess what happened next..I got a massive hit. I was able to set the hook, she surfaced on top and was easily the biggest this summer if not my PB. She buried herself in the weeds and as I was dragging her (and the weeds) the line snapped about 10-15 feet out. I guess I got what I deserved for being lazy and fishing a frog with 8lbs copolymer line in the slop. Well, I've respooled that extra spool with some PowerPro Super Sick and will be ready for them next time... Quote

I have fished BH from shore a bunch of times so I know its tough getting around. Sorry about the break off bro Quote

Sorry about the break off bro Thanks, man. Yeah, I only carry one rod and a heavy tackle bag too. The extra spool gives me a little flexibility, but a PTA if you're in a rush. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 22, 2015 Super User Posted September 22, 2015 50 degrees a bit of wind and a cold drizzle here today, but the first bite was a good one. A handful of dinks after that over the next 2hrs. I should of went home after the first fish knowing I wasn't going to catch anything better. She was a chunk though. 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 The sassafras river was hell today. Managed one 4 plus. 10 boats that we knew of and 6 total bass. We got a few nice stripers as well but it wasnt worth 20mph all day and gusts to 30 regular. Quote
Chopstick Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Went to C&O Canal for couple hours in the morning. The duckweeds are getting thin enough to cast moving baits without having to clean after each casts. Caught 3 decent bass all on Gambler EZ Swimmer with Owner underspin. The biggest one went 20 inches. Love the fall fishing. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 28, 2015 Super User Posted September 28, 2015 We fished Deep Creek Lake out of the kayaks yesterday. Water temp was still 63/64. Pretty crappy weather yesterday. It's was foggy, chilly, rainy, and some winds. Fishing was decent though. I managed 2 brown bass 2 green bass 2 toothy critters in the 4hrs we were out. All that fun cost me an $8 shadow rap. Quote

Wish I would have gone back there this year. I did 3 years straight in sept for vacation. I was getting familiar with areas near timberloft and holy cross. Good chance i am back next sept....with no power at the floating docks how do the bass guys charge their boats? Pull em daily and pay each day to launch? Quote
DaleGribble Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Last day of vacation so I braved the rain today at Lake Needwood in Rockville. Went out on my kayak with the explicit goal of trying out some new jigs (Nujigs) and new jig rods, but started off with a crankbait and couldn't put it down. 6 fish in 30 minutes on the same spot off the island in the middle. 10-15 FOW with a Rapala DT10-Green Olive Craw with a Duckett Ghost 7ft cranking rod with an Abu Revo S 12lb Pline FloroClear Fattest on of the day. 4lbs This one was hook with rear treble hook in gills. took a picture, weighed and released immediately. Swam off just fine. I caught 6 fish total for just above 18lbs. Quote

Pull em daily and pay each day to launch? Lots of power cords to run from the house down to the dock...Some houses are too far from the water and this isn't possible. Some houses do have power near the docks too, but most do not. I carry my cords with me for every tournament or trip where I stay overnight, never know when you need a long run for power! Was just up there for a 2 day tournament this weekend...Brutal weather, 20-30mph winds, heavy rain, and cold! When we launched on Saturday morning for day 2 it was 39 degrees, raining, and blowing about 25mph . The fish were still biting for the most part but it was a challenge to be out for sure. Quote
