Fished Black Hills last weekend and it was slow but the typical BH summer pattern. Drop shot under the bridge, shakeyhead and creature baits on the grass edges. Wind was blowing hard or else a senko would work as well.

I've been fishing the C&O this week for a mix of largemouth/snakehead. For largemouth I've had luck with weightless plastics and hollow body frogs fished over slop. I've spotted snakeheads all week but they haven't been as cooperative as the bass. Today I caught my first one on a popper.

This particular one I caught about 1/2 mile from Violet's Lock and I have also seen them at Swain's Lock. I have also heard of them being seen in the canal around Georgetown. They have been traveling upstream so it should be pretty safe to assume they exist from Georgetown as far up as Violet's Lock. I have seen them in all sizes from fry up to one that was close to 2 feet long guarding a ball of fry so it looks like they're doing quite well in the canal.

Plan on hitting the potomac for the first time on my kayak tomorrow morning. I was looking into launch points and was wondering if Nolands ferry is a better option than mouth of monacacy for fishing from a kayak.  I havent fished the potomac at all in years so forgive my ignorance. Havent hooked a smallmouth yet this year, I plan to change that tomorrow... once again thanks for suggestions and light lines fellas.

Interesting Fried Lemons, didn't realize they were that close to me. May have to make a trip there. I was fishing Pennyfield lot until they drained it, did very well there for awhile. But haven't been in that area of the canal for a couple years.

It's been a long week of no fishing while while taking a boot camp training session for wok with getting another certification today.  Finished the test by lunch so had some time to hit baker park for an hour.

Managed 2 with this one going 4 1/2.  It's been awhile since I've caught something over 3 in there.

I ran into Edub at mouth of Monocacy while I was putting in, he was coming out.

I managed 15 or so fish, and add another 18" smallie for the year.  They keep teasing me, I really want to hit that 20" mark.

Drove down to lake Frederick this morning for a change of pace. Would like to have gotten there a hour earlier but managed to catch 20 or so. Mostly were dinks but landed 5 keepers. All but one fish were caught on a shakey head, the other on a spybait right in the middle of schooling bass. First time using the missile baits head and I'm pretty impressed with it. Fish were deep but there really isn't much shallow there. Kept the boat in about 27' made cast to to points and coves in the 19 footish range and worked it back. Got to se a big pike and lots of schooling dinks witch made for a good day. Now where to go tomorrow morning?

Nice bill! I got out around 630 am saturday morning and had the best day of fishing numbers wise ever. Now that i know some holes I'm sure ill do even better next time. I plan to be out there sunday morning early next week. to build off what i have learned. I'm pretty sure i have a serious smallmouth addiction after this past trip.

Lol i had the same problem a few years back fishing the susquehanna at the juniata. They mash tubes and jerk baits and the average was 3lbs. Super fun stuff

Fished the C&O in a variety of conditions this week. Nothing huge, average fish was about 2 pounds with the largest being around 4, caught with a variety of techniques.

Also tried punching some of the isolated mats. I was expecting subtle bites but it turned out to be the opposite. The fish were hitting so hard they would hook themselves through the soft plastic.

Nice Lemmons, the one covered in dirt is a little disturbing though. Surely you can find a safer way to handle the nice fish you are catching

Yeah I didn't land that one very well. From where I fish I have to swing the fish I catch since the bank is elevated 5-10 feet above the water and is quite treacherous. I do try my best not to damage the fish I catch.

I went to Swain's Lock after work today looking for some frog action. Missed about 4 blowups in a 30 minute span which was discouraging. After about an hour I managed to hook the only fish of the day. I think she pulled me through just about every weed possible on the way in. I wasn't even sure the fish was still on near the end since I was pulling close to double her weight in grass. The picture doesn't really show it but this fish was extremely fat. Ended up breaking my old personal best. I actually caught my old pb just 50 yards or so away from this spot so this could actually be the same fish. If it were the same fish it definitely got bigger so I suppose it doesn't really matter although I would like to believe there is more than one fish of this size swimming around Swain's.

Wondered over to Middletown to enjoy the rain this morning. LOL! Managed to find a lipless crank bite before getting completely soaked. Landed 4, all between 1 and 1 1/2lbs. I really noticed a difference in my hook up ratio since I switched out those stock hooks!

Anyone else make it out today?

Hi.  New to the forums.  I just bought a new Crestliner Storm 1600 Bass Boat with a 60/40 Mercury jet outboard and am new to fishing the Potomac River.  My wife and I took it out at Big Slack Water the other night to run it and fish a little.  (didn't catch anything)  I'm not very familiar with running the Potomac or fishing it really.  I was wondering if anyone could give me some direction concerning navigating it and some areas to fish to get me going.

I have waded below Dam 4 and 5 and have fished a little at Williamsport.  I'm interested in fishing Lander, Taylor's Landing and Big Slack Water for starters.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Welcome Chris, nice to see someone from my hometown.

Congrats on the boat, perfect for running the upper potomac. Been awhile since I fished up there, currently down in Germantown, used to fishing down here. Things to keep an mind though are get used to "reading" the waters surface for any slightly submerged rocks. And there is not need to run WOT get a good comfortable cruising speed and keep your eyes open.

As for fishing it, same basic things you looked for wading. Breaks in current, deeper holes, and eddies. Smallies like current but will hide behind rocks or hang along the edge created by faster moving water meeting slower moving water.

Hey Guys! I haven't gotten out in over a week but I did go to the DNR Fishermen's Challenge Finale today at Sandy Point State Park. They gave away over $50k in prizes today. Unfortunately my name was not drawn...

A twelve year old won the grand prize, a brand new Tracker Boat setup with trailor. He was extemely ungrateful and said he would rather have won the $2500 check. He was also very rude to the MC who was asking questions. I am still in shock from witnessing this. I would have jumped out of my shoes if I had one a new boat!

Hope you all had a great weekend.

You fish the small lake in Middletown park or one of the many ponds around town?

I had no idea there were a bunch of ponds around town in Middletown. Any of them produce consistently? If so, where are they?

All the ones i know of are private. I fish one down the street from my house a couple times a week and it has a bunch of dinks a limited number of large fish. I have pulled a couple 4-5 pounders out but they dont bite much. Here are a couple of my better fish from this summer.
