Dramer77 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Yeah I'm thrilled about it. It's one of the biggest fish I've heard of in my area of Md. I've seen some that big caught in md, did you catch that up your way? Quote

Bill Poch Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Had a productive fishing holiday, managed to get out Sat, Sun, and Mon. Hit up the potomac on Sat afternoon and caught a good 14 smallies. On Sat. I had an hour to 2 kill and I remember somebody here mention the retention pond over by Frisco's in Frederick, so I thought I'd check it out. Not many places to access as far as ideal casting spots, but found a few. Manged 2 largemouths. I would love to sneak my kayak in there since I doubt that place is fished, could hold something special. Actually, I have no idea what the law is about putting a kayak in a retention pond. There are no signs that say you can't trespass. I may need to hit up DNR and find out, but then again, who's gonna be looking for me back there anyway. Ran back to the Potomac on Monday but I had to get out at Noon. With pretty clear sky's and crystal clear water, it made fishing hard today. It wasn't until a storm was working it's way through was I able to find the fish. By then after 3 smallies and seeing some lightning, I got off the water. Too bad after I had the Yak back on the Jeep, it didn't end up raining. Oh well. Live to fish another day. The Potomac is really low, showing 1.2 feet at Point of Rocks. Quote

Bill, I fished the pond over by friscos earlier in the year and was checked by DNR for my license.. The guy that checked me actually mentioned putting a kayak on there and I have seen someone on there in a kayak as well. So you'd be safe putting in there. Got out myself over the weekend. Hit the pond in Middletown. Managed one in the short outing, just a cookie cutter size. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 2, 2014 Super User Posted September 2, 2014 No fishing for me this holiday weekend, but just my normal heads up. Club is having a tourney on Black Hills this saturday, first light will be a little busy around the ramp. Quote
Webbster Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Got out on Friday on a just purchased kayak. Put in at Devils Backbone and paddled up the Antietam about 3/4 mile and floated back down. Caught a couple of smallies, a couple of bluegills and a crappie (I think). Nice maiden voyage! Plan on putting in on the Potomac at Williamsport and fishing the banks upstream for a while. Then paddling up the Conococheague and testing out that creek next weekend. Quote

MARsSPEED Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Got out for a few hours this weekend. I think I only fished twice during August... Caught around 20 LM in 3.5 hours of fishing Lake Linganore. Five of them were over 18" and this one was the largest at around 22". Pics don't do justice as she had some decent girth All fish caught from shore fishing Black/Red Flakes Fat Albert jig. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 3, 2014 Super User Posted September 3, 2014 Unless you bought a white water yak and very good helmet That might work for the Kemps Mill dam but Dam #5 you will need more than a helmet. Allen Quote

I pulled one out around 18" if I remember correctly. Caught a bunch of smaller variety there as well. I also know I saw a group of 3 20" plus fish cruising. I look forward to seeing what you can pull out of there with a yak since most of the pond in not accessible from the shore. Best of luck! 1 Quote

If I start pulling 20" fish out of there I'm gonna tell everybody I got skunked, LOL. Nah, you guys have been extremely helpful in the past I have no problem sharing. As of now looks like Sat is 80% chance of evening thunderstorms, so we'll see what it looks like. If it rains, I'll try to get up early Sunday and give the morning bite a try. Quote
Jtrout Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Went to lake elkhorn on my lunch break only caught one. 20 inches 3.11 pounds on a Texas rigged 7.5 inch culprit worm. Fought good made 2 runs pullin drag 1 Quote
nebulous13 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 What part of Elkhorn were you in? I've only fished from the floating dock with my kids. Been there 3 times and only ever got a half pounder with a wacky rig. Quote
Jtrout Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I go to the left away from the dam and go about half way back there's a channel that runs thru there that gets deeper I can get in there throwing far out trigged worms weighted. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Looks heavier than 3.1 lbs. Nice Catch! Quote
Webbster Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Went out on the Potomac this morning. Went up stream from Williamsport. Caught a couple of smallies and a few blue gills. Didn't get skunked but didn't catch anything of any size either. Biggest fish was maybe a pound. Quote

Since you have a kayak I would try Little Pool up by Hancock. The only way to fish it is by a boat you can carry in so it does not receive as much pressure. There are a lot of pickerel in there so be careful if using any expensive lures. Allen Quote
nebulous13 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Spent a couple hours at Lake Elkhorn last night. I FINALLY managed to get something out of there. I think I'm going to need a training course on how to fish. I got one bite at about 7:30. About 0.65 pounds caught on a weighted wacky worm. I changed locations about 4 times before I got the little guy. I'd post a pic, but I don't actually know how. I'll figure that out another time. Quote

Where were u fishin at elkhorn I stop by in the mornings for a half hour or so and on my lunch break for like an hour. I catch better fish around 12-130 . I've had better fishing deep as I can get my t rigged worm out I use A 1/4 bullet weight usually they hit it on the fall. In the morning it is smooth as glass and by lunch time it is a little windy with some current there is a deeper channel that runs thru the lake that's where I find the bigger girls. Quote

I was about 20 yards to the left of the boat launch toward the narrow end of the lake. I don't know how to tell where the deep water is. I started off with a texas rig but all I was doing was pulling weeds, so I switched to a wacky worm w/ a weedless hook. I had to put a 1/8 weight on it due to all the wind. Quote
RedskinsFisher Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I just started to get into bass fishing alot more this year after using bait pretty much all the time before and am looking for different places to go. I live right by lake frank and lake needwood but those dont seem to be very productive. I like going to black hills and rocky gorge, i fish from the bank unless i feel like renting a canoe at black hills. I'm looking for some other places to go to mix it up, has anyone fished cash lake in the patuxent refuge? I tried to attach two pictures here but couldn't figure that out either ha. Quote
Bill Poch Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I finally made it out to that retention pond tonight after work. Absolutely no fish in there at all. Don't waste your time. Never fish this place, ever . . . . Easy 4 pounder was only 16" but heavy. Caught 4 tonight, should have had 6. Had another beast on the line, darted under the yak and snapped the line. So ticked about that. My drag wasn't that tight, but I loosened it up after that. I only saw about 2 other spots with very limited shore access. And with the a lot of vegetation on the sore line, it's a lot easy to attack from the yak. Biggest fish caught in my yak, and 1st not in a river. Pretty fun fighting that guy while he pulled me around. Not so much fun dodging tree branches to the face though. 1 Quote
Jtrout Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 U were in the back where the little patuxent river comes into the lake and there is a wooden bridge? Quote
