basser89 Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 That be the one. I'll never get stopped, hell, never seen DNR out where I fish ever. But I just can't take the chance. Bill, I've been stopped once on the Potomac and was not asked to show the boaters license. Not sure if my age is a factor or not. DNR's site states, anyone born before July 1, 1972 is not required to have the boaters license. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 I have never heard of anyone actually getting asked for that when stopped. Even when they got a 20 minute inspection. Made it out on the upper Potomac yesterday for a few hours out of Edwards Ferry. Caught a good number of fish but it was a dink fest, could not find any bigger fish. But did have a first, the friend I was with has a jet boat, while running up river we hit something. Turns out it was a sunken tree, one piece hit the water intake perfectly. The end went up the intake and broke off. We beached the boat and tried to get it out but it was wedged in. Went from 25mph to speed to 10 the rest of the day. Quote
GifnaKurse Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I live in Largo, MD and I am trying to find some new fishing partners. Tired of going by myself lol. Let me know if you wanna lunker hunt.. Quote

To me it's Murphy's law, if I get it I'll never get stopped, if I chance it I'll get stopped right away. 1 Quote
basser89 Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Bummer Bill. Makes sense, I'd be the same way in your shoes. If I ever get access to BIG water on a regular basis, I'd take the course as well. On a side note, got out this morning for a little while before I picked up my daughter for the weekend. Finally managed to get the monkey off my back! Landed small smallie on a tiny torpedo. Which is surprisingly, the first smallies that I can ever remember that I've caught on that bait. LOL Quote
Bill Poch Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Took the yak out on the Potomac at Mouth of Monocacy today, it's becoming one of my favorite spots lately. Easy to paddle and river is calm. I was worried it was way to low this weekend. This morning the river was at 1.2' at Point of Rocks, good thing my brother didn't get the Jon boat out, it was super low. Caught 10 and managed one worth posting a picture. 17" hog. Oh yea. Best smallmouth this year, and 2" shy of my personal best. Wish I had my scale with me because he had some weight to him. I'll be back out there Tuesday night. 2 Quote
nastynate Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Finished 2nd place today out of 19 boats. Not bad being the first time I have been to sleepy creek. Have a little extra cash in pocket! For once in my life I understood the grass.....I think.. 2 Quote

nastynate Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 There were some blanks on the other side of the bored as well. Think that big bad moon had played its part making the fish moody. I started out strong in the early hours putting 4 keepers in the boat, one being about 2 pound. While my partner was struggling. Snapped lines and missed hook sets. Then the long mid day bore set in with my partner going threw baits to figure something out. Soon as he stopped fishing with his braid line set ups and went to floro and mono he lands his first fish and boost his moral. We eventually boat another keeper giving us one 2 pounder and 4 squeakers...12 and a 1/8.. Sized fish. With two and a half hours left in the day we made are way back to dam. Throughout the day the wind was building up some good gust periodically and about 12:30 we drifted up to isolated pads and pick fish up right away. Wind was blowing directly into these pads. Light bulb went off. Only culled one with a 12 and 1/2. Made are pass threw and another boat was doing the same but they were in the pads a few feet. Next thing I see is a big 5+ swung into the boat thinking to are selfs there goes first place if we ever had a chance. Now we are down we are down two 45 min to fish and we make the call to troll up and hit the pad points one more go. On the way there my partner ties on a lizard that almost matches the kind we seen swimming around. Get to the point make a cast and Brandon say Nate look, there his line goes swimming past the boat. Hook set and netted a 4+. Ok were back in it....times up way in blah blah.. If only we could have called the squeakers we would have been looking good but we also were the only boat with 5 fish. I started the day out strong and Brandon came in slow with the final punch. Great day on the water at a awesome looking fishery. Never give up 1 Quote

spiggy212 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hey Guys! I live in Hagerstown and fish Big Pool, Cunningham, and the Potomac River mostly. I am new to the forum and thought I'd ask any questions about the lakes around me here. Thanks 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 Welcome spiggy212, there is a lot of info in this thread. A few of us live in the area, I am sure someone can help with any questions. I live in Germantown now but used to live in Hagerstown. Quote
spiggy212 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Yeah some great spots around Hagerstown. Basser89 has been a great help so far! Quote

spiggy212 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I am heading up to deep creek in two weekends. I have been there before, with some success with crankbaits, but what should I key in on? I have heard flipping docks works pretty well, but who knows. Just looking for some advice before I head up there. Thanks Steven Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 Yeah some great spots around Hagerstown. Basser89 has been a great help so far! Basser89 only fishes like twice a year now and there are no fish to be found within 50 miles of Hagerstown. Allen Quote

basser89 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Its been 4 times Allen. LOL! Now that the whole house hunting, buying, and move is over I'm hoping to start getting out a little more again. Don't have the luxury of being 10 minutes from black hills anymore but might have a spot or two I can hit now and again. :-) Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 16, 2014 Super User Posted August 16, 2014 Still know a good club you can join Quote

Super User Munkin Posted August 17, 2014 Super User Posted August 17, 2014 I found some last night...lol You did better than my trip to the Lower Potomac as I only caught one fish. Allen Quote
basser89 Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Got in a short outing this morning (you know, before the rain hit???). LOL! Managed to land one and lose one at Middletown before it was time to go. Guess that pond still has the potential for a few decent fish. The one I caught went 2-1 on the scale. Kinda surprised me, its been a while since I've caught anything of any size from there. My PB for that place was caught like 5 years ago, and she only went 4-8. Has anyone caught anything decent or heard of anyone catching any decent ones out of there lately? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 Munkin, where did you fish on the lower? I fished a tourney out of pohick yesterday. Got 3 for 4lbs 10oz. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 Munkin, where did you fish on the lower? I fished a tourney out of pohick yesterday. Got 3 for 4lbs 10oz. Launched out of Slavins and most of the guys stayed in Mattawoman but I tried the main river. The past several years low tide has been horrible in the creeks so I tried the main river which hurt me. The gut that won stayed in the creek and caught all his fish in like the first hour. Allen Quote

Caught him on a wacky senko by the cat tails in the evening. The only other one I caught this year was a dink on a buzzbait. I don't have much luck up there so I don't fish it a lot. I hope to get to blackhills Tue or wed after work. I haven't been down there in a few weeks Quote
