basser89 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Nice! Thanks for the heads up Nate! Looks like the water level is up so not sure how productive shore fishing would be (my boat won't be ready for a while yet). :-/ Quote

Smiths.R Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Just wondering if any of you guys have been on the Potomac lately. I love to wade it, but live in Towson. Long drive for me to find out the water is only 55 degrees. I check the levels at point of rocks, so I know what the depth is, but no where to find the temp. Any info would be great! Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 23, 2014 Super User Posted May 23, 2014 Yea I heard... Had to be a rough day Yes it was rough but consistant with every other trip at Rocky Gap from last year. I even had the local bass fishing great with me and we struggled. He was sand bagging most of the day then decided in the last hour to school me with a fluke. Allen 1 Quote

nastynate Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I wasn't sand bagging. Just trying to figure the fish out on a new body of water. But I will say after you had a 3rd hit on a fluke, right away I knew I could put fish In the boat. I'm ready to go back! When fish is rough/tough it just means your not as well rounded as you think you are and it time to figure it out. (My opinion) 3 Quote

Smiths.R Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I've "tried" them both. They are not the potomac. Any idea on the temp out there? Quote

There is a number you can call that gives the water level and temp for the RC Wilson water treatment plant in Williamsport. I will have to check my old phone at home for the number and will post it later today. Allen Quote

MARsSPEED Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Good Afternoon fellow fisherman! The wife let me get out for a few hours this morning. It was the first decent day I had this year despite the muddy water. Caught about 10, only 1 dink, the rest going between 16-19". Here is my best today. Going to Williamsburg this week and hope to do some pier fishing at Buckroe Pier. I hope all of you are enjoying holiday weekend! Quote
basser89 Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Nice MARsSPEED! Like you, I got to get out for the first time in a while. Decided to hit Dickerson C&O. Managed 2 small bass on a D-bomb and a monster catfish on a spinnerbait. Quote

wv Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 We're hoping to get out today. Potomac doesn't look good for us. Lots of nice reports. We haven't caught a fish yet. Been out 3 times - Potomac/Sharpsburg, Middletown and Baker Park. Maybe we can catch something today. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Get out and try a white spinnerbait, GP creature bait, finesse worm, or white fluke. Allen Quote
TerryR Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Hey all, got a quick question here? I live in Southwest Pa but will be working in Frederick during the summer. Is there any good bass spots around the area. I have fished Cunningham Falls a few times here, was wondering if anything else was in the area. Any and all information would be appreciated. Thanks. Chopstick Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Went to Kings pond for an hour to test RageTail Toad for the very first time, and I was glad that I bought a pack. Caught 3 small ones and missed several blowups. Although they were only about 11-12 inches, when they come covered in cabbage, it's fun to reel in. Quote
MskSlyr Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Basser, speaking of catfish I had your nephew out this morning. He landed a few decent bass then begged to switch up to catfish for awhile. 27 inches on a makeshift catfish bait with what I could find in tackle bag. Quote
BigTerp Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 What are you guys having luck with on the Potomac for smallies? Haven't been out for awhile due to weather and just plan being busy. Planning on heading out Sunday morning, picking a buddy up at McCoys Ferry and heading up towards Hancock to fish our way back down. 1 Quote
Fat Boy Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I was out twice this weekend targeting largemouth. Friday, spent 1/2 day at Black Hills. The water was pretty murky, about 1' visibility, temps upper 60s/low 70s. Fishing was tough IMHO. I finished with 10 bass, all between 14-18" which was nice as far as size go. But all but one of them came from one small spot, and we worked our butts off everywhere else. All but one were caught finessing soft plastics, and one chaser on a chatterbait. After talking with some folks, I guess I did OK (boats at the ramp complaining about getting skunked), but geez we covered some great spots that are usually good that were dead. I'm thinking that they're in a post spawn funk. If I get out soon, I'll be searching deeper water my next time out. Yesterday, I fished the tidal Potomac and pretty much the same thing. I caught three in 6 hours and worked hard for them all finessing. Nothing on faster baits. Where we found clearer water, we found more active fish. My numbers would have been better had I been on my game as I lost four fish that launched out of the water and tossed the hook. I keep my hooks sharp and thought that I had good hook sets, so I'm not sure what was going on. They were decent sized bass. Again, nothing big, all between 14-17", and I'm thinking post spawn funk too. The carp were going nuts on the river, splashing and carrying on. Nate's comment earlier may have been more of a factor with my lack of fish yesterday. Most of the time I can put things together, but man did I struggle yesterday. I thought that I had a good plan, but looking back, hindsight is 20/20 and thought of some things on the drive home that I should have tried. When fish is rough/tough it just means your not as well rounded as you think you are and it time to figure it out. (My opinion) Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 A little Western Md update. Went last night after work. Fished from 7:30-9:30 and ended the night with around 18 bass. Had 4 in the first 20 minutes. All on a Tx rigged rage craw except 5 were on a cavitron buzzbait. First topwater fish of the year for me. The 3.6 was on my 2nd cast with the buzzbait. Feels good to finally get into them. 2 Quote
