nastynate Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Nice job. looks like I don't need to do a drive by just be at the ramp Sunday morning! Quote
Bill Poch Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 After all the rain my club moved its tourney tomorrow to Black Hills, the high water would not have been safe at the old location. So will be interesting to see how the dirty water affects the bite. The description of the lake I got from a co-worker who drives by it on the way to work was, high and muddy. What time does your tourney launch, that way I know what time NOT to be there to launch. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Bill, we have to be on the water at 6:20, "blast off" at 6:30. Weigh in will be at 3pm. This time its only 11 boats. Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Bill, No problem, the way I have been going this year at BH I will leave all of them for you. Quote
sprirobass Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I wasn't as lucky as Scoob13 this morning. Fished Black Hills for 3 hrs. Got skunked. Water is high and muddy. Quote
KenLattimore Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Managed to get out yesterday evening for about an hour (7-8pm). As everyone said, high and muddy. Caught one off a stump on a chartreuse spinnerbait with a gold and silver blade (Colorado and Indiana)- about 15" or so. Fish put up absolutely no fight. I actually thought I was dragging some sticks in until I saw the mouth on the surface. Hardly moved when I unhooked it. Put it back in the water and it jumped twice and took off...funny! Of course I lost the spinnerbait on my next cast and went home. Quote
Chopstick Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Went to the Clopper lake in the morning for couple hours. Water was high and muddy as expected. Caught only one fish but a decent size (18 inch) on a slowly dragged Strike King Lizard. Hopefully, condition will get better for tomorrow. 1 Quote
Bill Poch Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Well Black Hills kicked my but today. I fought the wind all day and it always seemed to be blowing me into the shore. It didn't help that it appears my brothers battery charger took a dump last night, so I was only on 1/2 a battery, almost didn't make it back to the boat dock. Windy days like today really make me wish we had a foot controlled trolling motor on our Jon boat. I think I'm going to try a local pond up rt 194 outside of Walkersville tomorrow morning, or drink 1 to many tonight and say F it when the alarm goes off. Quote
wv Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 We got out last Sunday. Went to Brownsville Pond and Middletown Pond. Brownsville was low but there were some guys there towing a board with a winch and totally messing the place up...so we left. Middletown was busy with trout people. We saw some bass on one end but coudn't get a bite. Year is almost half over and we haven't caught a fish. River looks out of the question now too. Might try some ponds today. Hope everyone keeps catching fish. Quote
SlayinPigs Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Anyone know of any smaller tournaments around frederick or any clubs got any room ? I just have a 17ft tracker with a 40 on it. Just moved back home to Frederick after fishing NC the past 6 years, ready to fish with some other people, Thanks all ! NEW TO THE BOARD AS WELL ! IT'S AWESOME ! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Welcome to the forums, SlayinPigs, check out www.fishonbassanglers.com. We are based out of Germantown, Md, We have a meeting tonight, its at Dicks Sporting Goods in Rockville at 7pm. If interested just stop by. Quote
SlayinPigs Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks for the invite man but I won't be able to make it. Where all do you guys fish at ? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 8, 2014 Super User Posted May 8, 2014 We fish Black Hills, multiple on the lower Potomac, Deep Creek, Smith Mountain, Lake Gaston, Anna and Conowingo. You do not have to fish all of them, you can pick and choose which ones to do. We have a meeting the first Wednesday of the month at the same place, everyone is welcome to stop by and get an idea of what happens if they are thinking about joining. Its a good group of guys who enjoy fishing and we have a mentality of teaching. At the end of each tourney we speak to how/where we caught our fish to everyone can get better. Quote
SlayinPigs Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Thats awesome, I have fished Gaston a ton and Anna a million times along with the Lower P. Now that I don't have the glass boat anymore, I'm limited to my old 18 ft tracker with a 40 on it, kind of limits me you know. A New Stratos is in the works for 2015 though Quote
SlayinPigs Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Me and a buddy of mine are actually starting a fishing filming company called GOT 5 PRODUCTIONS and have been getting some really cool underwater gopro footage as well as a ton of other nice footage, pretty neat stuff ! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 8, 2014 Super User Posted May 8, 2014 We have guys in aluminum jets that go 25mph tops, to 22 foot glass boats with 250HP. It is not about the boat, the 25mph guy has been angler of the year and won on big lakes like Gaston. The smaller boats come in with a game plan and stick to it since they cannot just jump spot to spot. That is not necessarily a bad thing. The spring Anna and Gaston tourneys were in April, Only tourney left this month is Deep Creek at the end of next week. If you get a chance check out the website, a lot of info and pics on there. Feel free to PM or ask any questions. Quote
SlayinPigs Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 How is black hills been this year ? I haven't fished there in 5 or 6 years Quote
Chopstick Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Has anyone fished the Widewater area of C&O canal between Great Falls and Angler's inn? I am planning to try that area and was wondering what to expect. Is it better to fish from towpath side or the opposite side? Also, is the bottom very snaggy? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 Black Hills has been a tough bite but the fish are there. Had a tournament there last saturday, boater side was won with a little over 20 pounds. I won co-angler side with 13lbs 10oz. The way the weather has been so far this year most places are mixed up right now. I may stop by tonight with a club friend for a couple hours. Quote
KenLattimore Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Definitely tough at Black Hills. Managed to get out Friday evening from 6:30-7:30. Managed to catch two fish with one being pretty nice at about 3 1/2 lbs. Missed two bites too. I'll try to post a pic when I get to a laptop. Quote
Bill Poch Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Changed things up today and went out on the bay in Solomons Island with my brother and cousin on my Uncles boat. Day couldn't have started any worse, 10 mins out of the marina and he losses a transmission in one of the motors. We run back the the Marina, check things out and pretty much confirm its the trans. After a little debate my Uncle says, well, we can run on 1 engine today, so off we go. It's been really slow down in the the lower bay for rockfish and with only 1 motor we didn't get to run up north as far as he would like. None the less we put 2 on the boat with the biggest coming in at 40" According to CB chatter we had a good day compared to others. We were hardly marking any baitfish. But luck for me, my Uncle is a top notch fisherman. He routinely out fishes the charter boats in his Marina. Outside his soon to be costly repair, it was a good day on the water with family. 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Nice fish Bill, hopefully sometime this year I will get down there for some stripers. Got out for a little smallie action yesterday, caught a few, lost a few. Overall a decent day of fishing. Got surprised by a storm at the end of the day, ended up getting completely soaked but got back in safe. This is my best one of the day. 1 Quote
wv Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 We got out Thursday night. Tried Baker Park lake we saw mentioned here. Had no luck...water was cloudy I guess from rain. Young guy said he had caught a carp and we saw something pretty big jump - guessing a carp - if they jump. Hope we can get out today somewhere but with all rain last few days not expecting much. Working 6 days next week so not sure about getting out much next week either. Quote
superbee76hotrod Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 has dnr installed the dock at dam 4 boat ramp yet? Quote
