Went to 3 Howard County lakes today.  Centennial was pretty crowded.  Walked halfway around trying various spots with no luck.  Saw a guy in a boat just outside of my casting range pick up 3 in about 5 minutes which was frustrating.  Went to Jackson's Pond after that again with no luck.  After that I hit Lake Elkhorn and got my first bass of the year.  It's tiny but I'll take it!  Got him on a Red Eye Shad.  Threw him back and on my wife's next cast she caught the same fish.  I could tell it was the same cuz of a red mark on the upper lip.  Between me, my wife, and my brother we got 6 and lost 2.  Nothing bigger then 9 or 10 inches though.  Probably gonna hit up Loch Raven on Sunday.

Bud, you are fishing the wrong side of lake Elkhorn from the pic you have posted. Centennial is always crowded, try rocky gorge next time.

I hit culler this evening during the rain, managed 1 bass guessing he ran around 2lbs. Made getting soaked worth it!

What time were you there? I was there from about 5-7. I had one hit but didn't stick it. I may head out in the AM for a little, not sure where yet.

About the best part of the evening for me was the young guy I talked to for 10 minutes or so. May have talked him into joining us here. :)

We just started on that side.  That pavilion was the first spot we stopped.  We walked around the whole lake.  Most of our fish were caught on the other side.  I've read that Elkhorn is stocked with bass each spring.  I'm assuming the stocked fish are probably small and everything we caught was less than 12 inches. I'm wondering if this is an average size fish for this lake or if there are some bigger ones in there.  Also I'd like to try Rocky Gorge but I don't know my way around Columbia so well.  I'm looking on Google maps and can't seem to find a parking lot or anything like that.  Where do you recommend I go?

Man, I must be doing something wrong at Culler lake. I went during the week at lunch time, nothing. Maybe the action over there is better in the evening.  I'm hitting Black Hills tomorrow afternoon.  Hopefully I can pawn the kid off to my mom and get down there around 3:00 and fish until dark.  If I have to wait until the wife gets home I wont make it down there until 6

Will be heading out in a little bit, probably head over to the stick ups at Black Hills. Looks like a great day to get out and break my skunk for 2014. Good luck everyone who is heading out. If someone wants to meet up send me a PM, it will email me.

Lake Elkhorn is stocked each year with few hundred small Bass, and you can find some 2-3 lbers in there. The biggest I caught in there was 4.2lb, but mostly you are pulling 1-2lbers.

Rocky Gorge is managed by WSSC, and I have added a link to their website. You need to buy another permit to fish there, and a single day permit will cost $6.00. There is very limited shore fishing available, so I suggest get a kayak or a small row boat. I fished Rocky Gorge today, and got a 14lb bag.

I am not off to a good start this year, fished BH for a couple hours with no bites. Decided to leave and go to Urbana Lake, seemed to be warmer than BH. Saw a lot of cruising bass just a couple feet off the bank, but could not elicit a single bite. Only my second time at Urbana, but will have to remember to go there a couple times. Saw some nice fish.

It was SLOW at BH today, I caught one all day, guy I went with caught 5 .. Most people we talked to said they weren't catching anything... Did get bitched at by some jerkoff fishing from the bank cause we were heading down twords them, even though we were a good 60-70 feet or so up the shoreline away from them

Bill don't beat yourself up. Hit culler last evening and had one hit, that was all. This morning I hit the pond over on Wedgwood and technically caught 2 but since the one was smaller than the crank I was using, I'm just counting the one that went about a pound. LOL

Cool man...thanks for the info.  Been wanting to get a kayak.  Maybe it's time to get serious about it.

I hit up Black Hills yesterday evening from about 3:30 - 7:00. Nothing was biting.

Wow. You guys are really doing a lot of fishing. Haven't even got license yet. If you all are thinking of having a get-together I would get a MD non-res. Last year we just got WV license. Looks like some nice places in Frederick area. My wife and I enjoy the Goodwil stores in that area...Thurmont, Walkersville and the two in Frederick. Hope to see some of you all sometimes. I'm guessing LM are ready to spawn soon if not already. Take care all.

Went to Black Hills and managed a couple, a dink and one 15". Lost a bigger one close to shore when he threw the hook.

Not bad for my first outing of the year! Going to give it another shot later this morning.

I don't fish Centennial that often, but always had luck with swim jig in blue gill w/ zoom grub or SK craw. I will just drag a finesse Jig with a SK baby rage craw, and SK 1.5 square bill around rocks. They should be schooling right now, so if you can find one then most likely there are more near by. Then slow down and fish the whole area with a senko, or w/e soft plastic baits you prefer.

Additionally, I would fish wilde lake or lake K before Centennial. If you know what you are doing, it is A LOT less people fishing those two lakes. Centennial got some decent size bass in there, but you have to compete with 20-30 weekend warriors and your adds are much higher going somewhere else.

Went to Loch Raven today and caught a new PB.  Scale said 5 pounds even.  Caught her on a 1/2 oz. chartreuse Booyah spinnerbait.  Also would have had a PB chain pickerel but he bit me off right before I could grab him and swam off with my KVD 1.5.  Checked out the area near the bridge on Warren Road or Merryman's Mill Rd of whatever it's called at that point.  Either way its the same road.  The rock bluffs were a bit much for my wife to handle so we walked down on the other side where there was a little cove with a ton of laydowns and various wood to fish.  Saw a guy catch one that looked to be about 4lbs there but I didn't get anything.  The cove really looked like bass though so I'll definitely be going back there.  My fish was caught at an area a little further down the road towards Rt. 146

I got 3 at Black Hills Saturday. Nothing big but it was a good morning. 2.5 on a white Spinner bait was the biggest.
