Super User Munkin Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 Going to try Black Hills tomorrow and hopefully I can catch something? I have a new crankbait rod and some jerkbaits that I have been wanting to try. Allen Quote
captnstabn Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I would stay away from black hills tomorrow. Some persian festival going on. Saw the signs there today that said parking may be limited and certain areas closed. http://montgomeryplanningboard.org/blog-news/2014/03/19/annual-persian-american-festival-sizdeh-be-dar-will-take-place-at-black-hill-regional-park-on-april-6-2014/ Quote
Bill Poch Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Hit up d**n 5 this morning with my brothers. Water temp was 51. 1 brother had a walley, but it got off once he got it to the boat, decent size. I had a nice smallmouth, but he got off when I bent down to grab him. He was a good 15". Then I had a nice surprise, my very first Muskey. 33" 12 pounds. 5 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 Nice fat musky Bill!!! If all goes well I will get out next saturday, my club will be at Lake Anna so looks like I will be shore bound. Will figure out later in the week where to go. Not worried about big fish, just a nice relaxing day and catch a couple. Quote
Smiths.R Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Loch Raven is an amazing fishery. I live about three minutes away from the reservoir. I'm there all the time. You are not permitted to fish from the Loch Raven Drive bridge to the dam. It's a shame, but it's the rule. Otherwise, the entire shoreline is yours. Some places get slammed, but if you're willing to walk, you can find some quiet spots. The places listed previously are a great starting point. I would say park where you're allowed to park, and just walk till you see water. There are fish everywhere in that water. 1 Quote

That looks like a natural muskie to me based on the ones I have caught because the stripes on the side are not as dark. Allen 1 Quote

Two Caucasians towing a boat and they ask us why we were there? I am guessing those Montgomery County Police Officers are on the fast track to detective. I did run into a river rat who beat me to all the spots and caught all the fish. Allen 1 Quote
nastynate Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 5,4,and 3lbrs. Only three caught on what should have been a grand slam day. Started the day out struggling and when Allen came down the bank after me and caught one on what seemed like the 5th pitch it really had me asking myself if I should have just stayed home and looked for the smallies. I know these pictures all look the same but they were weighed on my boga grip. It's hard getting good pics by yourself. Go pro will be on board next time. good meeting you Allen, I can put a face to the name now. 2 Quote
BigTerp Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Nice Musky Bill!!! You look to be right below the dam? We duck hunt that area a good bit. I hear alot of guys nail the musky in that area. Hoping the river cooperates after all this rain today. Water temp is getting into the 50's and I need a day off work to fish!! Quote

Bill Poch Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I know exactly what you mean, i love fishing alone sometimes... There's just something about being out in the woods or on the water in a nice secluded place all alone. The only care in the world is should I used the pumpkin seed soft plastic or red shad crankbait. We all go fishing to catch the next big one, but I'm sure we also have in common the love for nature and quiet time spent alone in it. That is until we do catch the next big one and we want the entire world to see our fish! LOL 1 Quote

basser89 Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Nice toothy critter Bill! Good to see everyone catching! I managed to get the monkey off my back this evening after work. I popped over to Baker park for a little while. I managed that went 2-8 on the scale. I had 2 other hits, one was definitely a bass (go a look at it when it rolled on the surface and threw the hook, the other I'm not sure but it was heavy and took some drag before popping free. Quote
