bigdog321 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Hey Dink, I have been dying to try and catch a walleye. Where were you guys at. I live in Germantown but am willing to go anywhere to give it a shot. Come on, give a guy a hint Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 24, 2014 Super User Posted March 24, 2014 Hit the potomac near 4 locks with Allen (munkin) today , not a lot of action but I did manage 2 nice smallies ..this was the bigger one... Just shy of 3lbs What about that massive 80lb Minnkota you had hooked until the line broke! Hopefully I can actually catch a fish this weekend and not another case of wind burn? Allen 2 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 Anyone been Black Hills lately? looking for a water temp and clarity for the place? My club tournament maybe moved there for Sunday and I need to figure out what to bring. Allen Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 I was there last saturday, temps ranged from 46-48 degrees. Water clarity was a little cloudy, had a couple feet of visibility similiar to most of last year. With the snow Tuesday and a day of rain on saturday it may change. 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I am going to start fishing Black Hills this year. Its supposed to rain this weekend pretty good up 270 so I am going to stay local 2mrw for a few hours at Centennial. I am reading more about Black Hills, and seeing some good stuff on YouTube so it wont be long before I make my 1st trip up there. I have a tourney in DE on April 5th so I would be it will be the weekend after. I dont know anything about the place at all...any do's and dont's there? 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Figure I am going with a brown jig of some sort, rat l trap, drop shot, senko. Start with the standards and see what I can turn over. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Alright! First Bass of the year out of Lake Linganore. Things are starting to look up and up! 2 Quote

sprirobass Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Nice bass MARsSPEED! Allen, I was at Black Hill this morning. Didn't catch anything! Water is a bit cloudy. I fished from the bank where it's flat today. The fish probably more at drop offs. I caught this last week at steeper bank. Lendiesel22, I usually have good success with crankbait, senkos & spinnerbait there. Try the night fishing starting May. Look for the dates on its website. 2 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted April 1, 2014 Super User Posted April 1, 2014 Spent the day fishing Rocky Gap in Western Md. Water temp was at 43-45 and it was pretty windy today. No bass but I did manage a trout on a kvd 1.5 in orange belly craw. Buddy caught three on a really small crank. Kinda looked like a rebel crawfish type lure. Quote

Scott-2 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I live in Ellicott City very near Centennial lake, plus I fish most lakes of Columbia and surrounding areas. But I grew up in the Loch Raven area and fished all over the reservoir. I have a canoe but looking to get a kayak and expand my fishing to other areas. I would love to hear if anybody has recommendations for fishing near me that isn't overfished as much as the Columbia lakes. Quote

Piney Run in Sykesville is not too far from ellicott city and IMO is the best lake around here between april and July (after july the hydrilla becomes overwhelming and the lake just becomes a pain to fish) Quote

Any tips on some good spots for fishing from the bank? Wish I could help you out with some Ellicott City spots but I just moved up this way and I'm still trying figure out where to go. Quote

Wish I could help you out with some Ellicott City spots but I just moved up this way and I'm still trying figure out where to go. Hi Joe, I think because Loch Raven is so big it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to go. The most reasonable approach is to find the access points where you can park. Drive up Dulaney Valley road until you get to the bridge crossing the Reservoir and park to the left, I think you can still park there. Then you could fish off the bridge like in OC, or walk along the shoreline & find a spot. If you go further on Dulaney Valley rd, about 1/2 mile up on the right is a place where you can rent a Jon boat. It has a launch point and you can go out from there. The rules are pretty strict about bringing your own boat. If you don't have a permit already you wont get one now. They sell out within minutes. https://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/recreation/countyparks/fishingcenter/ Go up 83 to Warren road and go down that road (several miles) until you get to an old metal bridge. Go across & there is parking on the left and right. I have fished there on both sides. On the right there is a big cliff you can perch on top of & on the left there is usually a shoreline or sandbar depending on the water level. There is another access point if you continue down Dulaney Valley another mile or so. There is a part where DV rd makes a 90 degree turn, where Pierces Plantation restaurant used to be. If you go straight there it's Loch Raven Drive, you can access the shoreline there for several miles. Sometimes the road is closed and only allows access to the first mile or so. If it's not closed you can go all the way to the dam. Otherwise the dam has to be accessed from Cromwell Bridge rd. or Providence rd. There are probably other access points but those are the ones I have used. I'd love to hear if you have any success. It's been a while since I have fished those so I apologize in advance if things have changed. Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted April 3, 2014 Super User Posted April 3, 2014 Thanks Scott. When I went there a couple weeks ago there were 'no fishing' signs all along the area between the top of the dam and the next bridge. It's a shame too cuz there was a lot of good looking, easily accessible shoreline. I hit some of the spots along Dulaney Valley Road and Loch Raven Drive without any luck but it was still pretty cold. I'll have to check out the bridge on Warren Road though. Appreciate the tips man. Super User Munkin Posted April 3, 2014 Super User Posted April 3, 2014 Depending on what the wife has going I am fishing either Black Hills or Piney Run sometime this weekend. The river is shot and the small local lake will be overrun with trout fishermen. Allen 1 Quote

nastynate Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Does anyone know why big pool is 4 to 5 feet lower than usual for this time a year? Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 Does anyone know why big pool is 4 to 5 feet lower than usual for this time a year? The water levels in that place have changed drastically the last couple of years. Is the big rock next to the ramp out of or under water? Allen Quote
