nastynate Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I had a bucoo for lipless baits but the grip was to big for my hand and it seem to make it cramp up. Then shut the but end in the car door and destroyed it. I would pick another one up for 25 bucks though. 1 Quote

Then shut the but end in the car door and destroyed it. I would pick another one up for 25 bucks though. The grip is kinda large. I tape mine up real tight and then set it over the heater vent for about an hour or so. Leave it sit for a day then unwrap it. Slims them down quite nicely. It will leave lines from the tape but they seem to go away after fishing it awhile. 1 Quote
Bill Poch Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Looking for suggestions to expand my fishing techniques/baits used. I have $125 B-day money to burn at Bass pro and I'd like to pick up some things I don't normally use. I fish Black Hills for LM and the Upper potomac, normally Harpers Ferry and mouth of Monocacy for SM. I've only gotten back into fishing over the past 3 years, used to do it all the time in my early 20's. Any way my current baits I feel confident using . . For LM, I go with lipless crankbaits, plastic worms normally texas rigged, and top water poppers with the occasional buzz bait. I did pick up a wacky o ring tool, so I'm gonna try that this year. For SM, it's almost strictly plastics. 4" zoom lizards and brush hogs and several different types of plastic crawdads. I tried some zoom super flukes last year and had some real good successes with those up by Harpers Ferry. I also go with topwater poppers or jitter bugs along with rebel crawfish crank baits. I'll definitely pick up a few spinner baits, but they are by far my lest confident lure I use. Either I don't know how to fish them, or I fish them wrong. Help me spend my money. I'll add that I bank fish, wade, have a kayak, and jon boat. Quote
sprirobass Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I had good success with deep diving crankbait at Black Hill. I use several but the most productive one is Rapala Shad rap. In the past couple years, I gained confidence with spinnerbait. I noticed my most hits were at the bottom. So I cast out and wait for 10-12 secs before reeling in. Reel in slow, just enough to feel the vibration. Have fun spending that gift card Bill! Quote

I would add some white spinnerbaits with dual silver willows and some jigs. Allen Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 11, 2014 Super User Posted March 11, 2014 Hit up 2 lakes in Howard County today. Centennial and Jackson's pond. It was my first time at each and didn't have any luck at either of them. I was thinking that at Centennial at least maybe the pike and trout would come out to play. Of course there was still a lot of ice so I had limited water to fish and had to do quite a bit of walking to get to it. And of course the majority of the soft water was at the end of the lake that was buoyed off as a wildlife sanctuary so I left that alone cuz I'm sure that that's a heck of a fine. I liked the look of Jackson's pond but it seems really small. I mean, there can only be so many fish in a pond that size right? And who knows if people are keeping fish or not and how many. So I'm wondering if that one is completely fished out. I dunno though. I'm probably just over-thinking it cuz I haven't caught a bass since the beginning of November. I'm gonna give it a week or 2 and let the water warm up a bit and then try them again. Also planning on trying Lake Elkhorn, Lake Kittamaqundi, Wilde Lake, and the Baltimore County reservoirs. I seriously hope were done with winter. It looks like its starting to warm up. I just wanna get back on some decent fish. Quote
Dramer77 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Doesn't sound like you have any jerkbaits, I just got into using them last year.. Great bait for smallmouths Quote

Great bait for smallmouths No I don't have any. Just one of many techniques that I still need to learn. Maybe I'll pick a few up. where is everyone getting these bucoos for $25? i checked walmarts in carroll county and haven't found them yet there all $80. I got mine at the WalMart on White Marsh Blvd in Baltimore County. They're long gone by now though. Last I looked there was only a handful of Shakespeare rods in the clearance bin. Quote

trickwormmaster Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 stopped by centennial yesterday and saw it was half ice starting at the boat ramps going west but i saw a kayaker coming in and he said he caught a couple bass using a spinnerbait. has anyone else had any luck using them recently and how do you work them in the colder water? i assume you don't bring it straight in like you'd normally do? Jackson is a good Bass pond, and no one really take anything home so there are always fish in there. I got a buddy live right next to the Pond, and he was pulling out 3-4lbers last year. 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 13, 2014 Super User Posted March 13, 2014 The ice from Black Hills is gone now so it should be opening. Someone would have to call the office to confirm. I am heading down to the lower Potomac saturday, wont be fishing BH for a couple weeks at least. Quote

morbidsteve Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I was at a small ... water holding area today and pulled out 4 small largemouths. Not to shabby for my first day going and I didn't go anywhere to catch anything big. Around Baltimore. 1 Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 17, 2014 Super User Posted March 17, 2014 I went on a scouting mission around Harford county and hit just about every small pond that was listed in the booklet that came with my license. Most were only about 1 acre. No luck anywhere. I saw 2 small baitfish and 1 dead catfish. I ended up running into a guy that said there weren't any bass in any of the small ponds so I shot over to the Conowingo dam while I was up that way to check out the Susquehanna but the flood gates were open and the current was just too much below the dam and I couldn't find a way to any water above it. If anyone has any bank fishing info for that area let me know. With the wind, cold, and the wasted gas it was kind of a miserable day but at least I got out of the house and I was able to rule out a few ponds in my quest for a decent bass spot. Quote
JigMe Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Can you spill your spot? The general area is little patuxent river, you can wader upstream. The entire river is stocked, and I don't have a particular spot. Quote
