Chopstick Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Went to catch and release section of Patuxent river to catch some trout and caught couple of rainbow trouts. Can't wait until bass season. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 This is stupid. It needs to get warm so I can fish. Now they're calling for more snow. Such crap... 1 Quote
basser89 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Tuck, I can't even remember the last time I hit the warm waters and they were actually discharging. :-/ Quote
nastynate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Fish are still biting you just have to be patient. Caught this little guy Sunday slowly crawling a tube up the banks of the creek. It's not fun fishing but they still bite. Im Ready for the jerk bait bite! 1 Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I don't even like messing with those fish anymore as they just destroy lures. Allen You're not fishing with big enough lures. Seriously, get ahold of me if you are sitting on toothies Allen. I'm down. Always. Quote
nastynate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 You're not fishing with big enough lures. Seriously, get ahold of me if you are sitting on toothies Allen. I'm down. Always. You need to get up behind the dams and you won't be disappointed. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 Help me out with "behind the dams"? I fish between 4 and 5 (maybe, I think) typically, wading. I've only been on the river in a boat once down there. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I just got a 9.9 last weekend and I have a 16ft extra wide jon boat. No worries putting it in somewhere especially if there are toothies. Quote
nastynate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Check out this 10.9 my buddy caught last river rise. I was suppose to be out with him but fell asleep before he got off work. Dam 4 and 5 are the most popular spots from boat and from bank in certain areas. I don't usually chase eyes or muskys so I couldn't put you in the best spot. The dams usually concentrate the fish when they move up and give you the best chance to catch another state record. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 That's a d**n big walleye! I found a list of all the boat ramps and checked a map. I'm typically wading below dam 5 from the looks of it. I'll just have to get on the water and find what I find. Thanks Nate. Quote

I have caught about 25 Muskies in the river and while you occaisionally catch them at odd places the like a few key areas. If you have a map I can mark in pencil where I have caught them and what time of the year it was. It looks like I need to step up my game and get out there and fish! Nate is posting pics of fish on the same day I am removing topwaters from last September that are still tied on. Allen Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I'm sure I could find one somewhere. Quote
nastynate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 The most musky I have seen in the water in one day has been 9 and the was below dam 4. 1 Quote

One or two is the most I have come across and that was below a dam. If anyone wants to know how to hook one just fish the most expensive bass lure you own on some light line and they will show up. Allen I've fished areas smaller than a football field that have held anywhere between 4 to 10 skis. One area in.particular, had 2 confirmed over 45". And you're right Allen, tie on your most expensive bait and you're almost guaranteed to loose it to a ski. LOL Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 Biggest one I have caught was a 44" one that went right at 17lbs on an oatmeal ball. At the time I was within a couple of ounces of the state record. When I landed the fish I had no idea what it was and had to look in the book they give you with your license. Most of the tigers that I catch anymore have been in the 35-40" range but naturals are all different sizes. Down where the Conococheague creek empties into the Potomac I have caught several small (16-20") naturals on a white fluke fishing for bass. Allen Quote

LOL I had a day two years ago that I will never forget. For about an hour straight, seriously, on consecutive casts I had at least one and at times 3 follow the bait all the way back to me. The size differences were obvious and I'd say there were probably 6-7 different fish including one that I don't know I will ever forget. It was over 45 and had a head the size of a shovel. I only had two commit to hitting the bait and I farmed both bites. I think I was so entertained watching them follow a bait up to my feet for so long that I didnt really pay attention to when they hit it. 1 Quote

Gonna use it for frogs and jigs. Thinking about hitting some of the lakes in Howard County this season even though I'm in Baltimore. Quote
Dramer77 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Wish our walmart would do those deals... They never mark rods down that far Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 7, 2014 Super User Posted March 7, 2014 I've scored 4 bucoo micro rods over the past 2 seasons for $25ea at my local Walmart. I just grabbed a 7' m/m the other day to use strictly for small square bills. I have their 6'10 h/m-f that I use for topwater also. Quote
