I would be very careful with a canoe at Big Slackwater because of the larger boats. Other fishermen are not much of a problem but pleasure boats think they own the river and do not pay attention a lot. My boat is 18' and they have about run into me several times.

You should try some of the small lakes in the area as they are better suited for a canoe. Cunnigham Falls, Big and Little Pool, Greenbrier all can be fished vert easily from that canoe. Greenbrier has a lot of little fish but also some nice ones. Cunnigham Falls is better IMO as there are more fish in the 12-18" range. Big Pool is good but the wind may blow you around too much. Little Pool you will have to carry the boat about 100 yards down a trail to the lake but if you can get in there fishing is great. The only warning about Little Pool is there are pickerral in there that will destroy your lures. My most memorable fish caught at Little Pool was a 22" Brown Trout on a 1/2oz flippin jig.

Thanks for all the info. Ill have to check out those areas in the near future. Have you spent much time above dam 5? Is that better than dam 4 in terms of boat traffic?

Running down the Black Hills tonight to fish the backwash. Hopefully I'll have the same luck I did last week. Managed a 4 -5 pounder, of course I left my scale in the Jeep.  Not this time.

The backwash area is by the boat ramp. When you 1st enter the park, your first right will go towards the boat ramp. The road goes over the lake, on the right side is the backwash area.  I fish both sides of the road.  Didn't have any luck last night, just 1 little guy.  My brother and I threw just about everything in our tackle box at em.

New PB this morning. 19 inches. 4 pounds.

Second time out trying plastic worms wacky rigged. Caught 9 fish most between 9-14 inches between Dam 4 and Taylor's Landing. I can't believe how well they work and why I didn't try them sooner.

Caught a nice fat 18.5" after work today. Put up nice fight! She hit my senko immediately after casting out 30 yds to a bridge support.

Nice fish. Did you pull that out of Lake Linganore? I've never fished there before. Is to open to non-residence? Any place to put in a canoe or to fish from shore without being on someone's property?

Fished a club tournament on Saturday at Four Locks and my partner hooked two different tiger muskies. The first one we were unable to land as it is hard to get a 4' fish in a 2' net. The second one which I think was smaller we did get into the boat using the Boca style grip that I bought for snakeheads and those dam pickerral. I have a pic on my phone I just need to figure out how to transfer it.

Finally got out on the water this weekend for some much needed stress relief. The woman and I hooked up with are good friend Derrick saturday around noon and launched his boat out of tailors. We ran up to a couple of hundred yard from d**n 4 and floated back. Fishing was pretty decent didn't slam one every cast but when we caught them the had nice size. Most close to the bank in the shade or in the current staging behind ledges. We put back in Sunday around 4 made a little go pro clip of running up to the d**n again and got are float on. First cast Derrick hits a smaller one rattle trap and same thing for Keirston. I'm cycling threw my jerk baits until I finally get them to bite one. Then Keirston picks up the crank bait and sticks into a Muskie. That was her whole goal for this year and she finally landed one. Weren't catching the size of smallies like the day befor but the fish seemed a tad more aggressive. All and all we had a great weekend on the Potomac.

There's a thread about it in the 'General Bass Fishing' section.  The fish is a beast!

Unfortunately Lake Linganore is private and very strict with its policies. Heck, I even got my car towed and I'm a member. Without a friend or contact, its very hard to "sneak on".

I have been in contact with a few BR members here about fishing with me but I haven't been able to bring anyone out yet. Having a wife and kid forces me to be spontanious fisherman!

I've been getting skunked the last couple outings at Black Hill. I noticed the water is very low lately. Do they typically draw down the water around this time of the year? I can't remember it was this low last year.

So I started a new job this week on Wedgewood Blvd in Frederick (Very Close to Flying Dog Brewery). There is a large(2 or 3 acres) SWM Pond directly across the street thats been developing for 20 years.

I just scouted it out during lunch, not much shoreline access but where there is access there is plenty of casting room. Threw out a few casts and caught one little dink. I saw quite a few 1# plus fish swimming in schools. Looks to be a good lunch time and after work fishing spot!

Let me know if anyone has any additional info on this spot. One more thing, I saw a fish at least 24" or longer that was a shade of light green, almost white in the water. I have absolutly no idea what it was.

I found the same thing. Made it out this Saturday and while I managed four fish over a five hour outing it was definitely the lowest I've ever seen in the three years I've been going. Shoreline was around 2 plus feet further out than usual. I do think they draw it down during the spring though. Maybe Sean can chime in since he's been fishing there much longer.

They do draw downs once in spring and once in fall each year, but I think this is earlier than normal and for a difference reason. I have heard it was due to some work being down at the dam but I am not 100% positive.

Black Hills tends to get harder in fall, fish seem to get spread out. But I imagine the water color and draw down had an impact also. Hopefully it has picked up some I have a tourney there on Saturday.

I have to give Black Hills a try during the fall because I do not think I have ever fished there past September?

I just saw this the other day, hadn't had the chance to post about it. I can't believe that fish was only 26"! That must've been one FAT fish! LOL!

Sorry Ken, between the contractor job I took on and looking for a full time position, I haven't been to Black Hills enough lately to even know they've drawn it down any. Thanks for chiming in Brian! And I agree, that it does seem early for the fall draw down.

So normally we keep fishing spots a secret, right. Since I respect all of you, I will let you in on this little 2 acre gem across from my work. I caught the above at lunch today, and yesterday likely around 3.5#'s. But I had a school of 3 fish all over 20" swim right in front of me. Looks to be a nice concentration of Bass here and I have yet to see any carp.

Not a lot of shoreline to fish but some areas were just brushhogged.
