Dramer77 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I am convinced that there are large Muskie still living in Lake Linganore from the stocking in 2005 of 18,500 fingerling. I know its a stretch but today I was under the bridge, cast out next to structure. My grub fell maybe 3' before the line started to run left to right. I reeled my line in tight before setting the hook, and boom, the line was clean cut. No Frey, just a clean cut. Being a noob I am not sure what this was. Pickeral are no longer in the lake. Nobody has ever caught any Snakehead. I did manage two 19" bass today. Pics are the "Who's In" thread. I've managed 5 fish for a total of 96.5" in just a week. Not bad, but I credit Lake Linganore before the man behind the rod, haha. id start using a a leader then and see if you can catch um again Quote

The average life span for tigers is less than the pure strains but still live about 8 to 10 years. Can't recall the growth rates off the top of my head anymore but it would more than likely be a mid-40's size beast. Just an educated guess though. Its been YEARS since I've tangled with a tiger in a lake. Can't recall their fighting habits all too well anymore. :-/ Quote

MARsSPEED Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 So Linganore is going to be really high tomorrow morning. Any other bodies of water someone can recommend that is friendly to shore fisherman? Maybe one that didn't get all the rain. Black Hills might be OK but I don't know anything about it. Anyone familiar with Rainbow lake or Greenbrier? I would like have line in the water by 6:30am. Cunnigham Falls is better than Greenbrier and all the good spots are easy to hit from shore. Allen 1 Quote

Fat Boy Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I meant to post this a while back, so as a report goes, it's probably not too helpful (got busy and haven't been back on until today). But I thought it was interesting and may help people fishing Black Hills while it's still warm. I'd imagine that since the weather has been roughly the same the past couple weeks since that hot snap, that similar results could be expected to what we found. The surface water temp was 82 degrees. My depthfinder wasn't working right so I wasn't able to see a thermocline. In the past, it's been about 20-25' depending on the year, so I started fishing at that depth. My buddy and I noticed a bunch of algae like scum on top of the water, like the lake had turned over. We found the bass, accidentally, on the bottom in 30-35 FOW. I was amazed that they were that deep. They weren't huge, and we didn't catch a ton of them but did OK considering we were only out there for a few hours, but they averaged a couple pounds each. I just thought that it was interesting and would share. Anyone else catching them really deep like that at BH? Oh, and another weird thing, there wasn't a lot of wood in the water where we caught them, it seemed like the lake bottom structure was more important than working the cover. I did manage one decent bass covering water on the way back to the ramp on a Chatterbait caught on the first drop off near shallow water. Quote
Bill Poch Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I fished Black Hills tonight from about 6 - 8:30. I hit the stick ups 1st and didn't catch a thing. Ran over to the back wash around 8:00 and managed 2 on a 4" soft plastic crawfish. 2nd one was between 4 -5 pounds on the main lake side. Quote
Scrm3 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Hey, I'm new to the forums and only have been fishing a couple months. I'm going to be hitting up big slack above dam #4 on the Potomac in my canoe all day tomorrow starting at 6am. First time fishing this area...if anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them. I'm going to try to fish buzzbaits (both black and white), spinners and jigs. Hopefully, it will be a good day with the rain today and the high is in the low 70s for tomorrow. Quote

MARsSPEED Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I'll extend an invite today to one person who "frequents" this thread. If you would like to fish Lake Linganore today and can meet me in New Market by no later than 4:15pm. I plan on fishing till about 8:30 this evening. The wife and kid are out of town! I only fish the shore and do not have a boat. Again, I can only take one! Quote

Bill Poch Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Anybody put a boat in at Brunswick? I'd like to check it out with my brother on our Jon boat. Just not sure how deep/rocky it is for our outboard. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Ended up pulling a 21.5", 18.5" and another 18". I put the pictures in the Who's In thread. Funny thing is those are the only fish I caught. Slow but worth it. 1 Quote

Big slack on the weekday was great, very little boat traffic and we made it 8 miles up river just getting a feel for the area. Only caught 9 fish, several small mouth, a tiny large mouth and a couple sunnys. Their was a ~18 mph head wind pretty much the whole day which made fishing a little tough when it was too deep to anchor in a lot of spots. Caught 3 this size. Largest fish of the day. Caught it in the middle floating back with a chartreuse crank that dives 3-6 feet. I was really hoping to catch something a lot bigger with the deep water. Welcome to THE boards Scrm3! Hope the fishing went well at dam 4! Let us know how you did! Hope the boater traffic wasn't bad. The cruiser boats don't have a lot of regard for smaller vessels. Surprisingly everyone slowed down when passing by us and only saw 10-15 different boats all day. 1 Quote

Just not sure how deep/rocky it is for our outboard. I haven't tried putting the boat in there but I know there are tourneys held around Brunswuck. I would think its probably about rhe same type of water that's in the Snyder's/Taylor's areas so if you take.tour time and read the water, I'd think you'd be ok. Hopefully others can chime in and give tou more feedback. Quote

I would be very careful with a canoe at Big Slackwater because of the larger boats. Other fishermen are not much of a problem but pleasure boats think they own the river and do not pay attention a lot. My boat is 18' and they have about run into me several times. You should try some of the small lakes in the area as they are better suited for a canoe. Cunnigham Falls, Big and Little Pool, Greenbrier all can be fished vert easily from that canoe. Greenbrier has a lot of little fish but also some nice ones. Cunnigham Falls is better IMO as there are more fish in the 12-18" range. Big Pool is good but the wind may blow you around too much. Little Pool you will have to carry the boat about 100 yards down a trail to the lake but if you can get in there fishing is great. The only warning about Little Pool is there are pickerral in there that will destroy your lures. My most memorable fish caught at Little Pool was a 22" Brown Trout on a 1/2oz flippin jig. Allen Quote
