Dramer77 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Hey guys, i just came across this forum while looking for local fishing info, Im from Hagerstown and have been fishing as long as i can remember... the past few years i have been getting more serious about bass fishing and trying to learn ... its something ive always wanted to do , just never got to into it growing up.. are there any good local tackle shops to get good deals on stuff.. im planning on buying some nice new tackle this year and really getting out there and working on my fishing skills Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 29, 2012 Super User Posted December 29, 2012 Welcome Dramer77!!!!!!! There are a few guys from the area, some really good, other not so much..... joking Unfortunately I do not know of any good tackle shops, in the area. I learned the most when I started fishing with some of the guys on here. And I joined a local club www.fishonbassanglers.com, I live in Germantown now, although I grew up in the Hagerstown area (Boonsboro). We do have a member of our club who lives in Hagerstown so not out of the question, if you are interested let me know I can give you the details. For tackle, most of my better stuff has been bought online, here in the Flea Market section, or thru members of my club. Quote
Dramer77 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 yea ive seen there are a few bassmaster clubs in the area, and i am a bass member.. just dont know if i wanna fork out the money to join a local chapter and fish the tournaments they fish... im still trying to learn alot more about bass fishing, so it may be alittle soon for that.. im planning on heading up to bass pro in harriburg tomm to pick up some new gear, i didnt really see any better pricing for what i want except for maybe ebay.. and i dont wanna go that route an risk not getting a warranty for the reels i want.. I'll def check out your site.. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 30, 2012 Super User Posted December 30, 2012 Hopefully the shopping went well. What areas you fishing up there? Ever come down to Black Hills or other places down here? Once the weather gets better in spring maybe figure a way to get some fishing in. Any questions I am sure someone on here can help. Quote
basser89 Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Welcome to THE boards Dramer77! I've spent a good amount of time living in Washington county as well (Sharpsburg and Williamsport mostly). While I'm over in Frederick now, I still enjoy fishing out that way. As Brian had mentioned, there are a few of us in the local area so don't hesitate to ask any questions! Quote
Dramer77 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I fish all over around here, dont have a boat but i hope to change that this year.. ive fished ever since i can remember growing up in funkstown.. Ive just been getting more into bass fishing , i grew up watching bill dance, jimmy houston and all those guys.. i always wanted to get into all that.. Ive heard of black hills and clopper lake down that way.. id like to get down and fish some of those area's sometime.. Shopping went well today, they didnt have the one reel i wanted so i had to order it from cabelas.. I picked up 2 of the new Abu Garcia revo3 SX's one 6:4:1 and one HS 7:1:1 and 2 of the new vendetta rods, both 7" one medium-fast one medium heavy-fast... also picked up some new line on the recommendation of the guy in that dept.. P-Line Floroclear, basically reg line coated in fluorocarbon... So it adds strength but its not as heavy in the water, and according to him knots dont slip like straight fluro like do... gonna use 8lb, which he recommended .. he said he uses that for everything up there unless he is fishing for steelheads or something big.. he also said it casts smoother /farther ....so i guess we'll see how it goes.. Dramer77 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 here are the other 2 pics.. it wouldnt let me load them all at once Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 31, 2012 Super User Posted December 31, 2012 Nice setups, they should perform very well for you. I like the flouro-clear, I use it on one of my spinning setups. Use mostly straight flouro but have to keep a couple setups for topwater. Have had no issues at all with the p-line. Fishing is tough this time of year, only have the 2 heated water discharges or lower potomac. Unless the canal has not frozen over yet but haven't been there to check it out. Quote
Dramer77 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 i never really fished much this time of year, i need to learn more about waterways around the area.. i have been wanting to get into flyfishing also.. i have some gear.. just need to learn how to use it better.. beaver creek would be great this time of year Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 Yeah there are some decent spots to fish. Most are typically over fished or you can't use a boat and the place is pretty large to walk it all. Quote

basser89 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 ok i guess im gonna have to give that a shot Let me add, that I take my time tying the knot to ensure I tie it properly and make sure that I wet the knot thoroughly. I believe that's the key to the success I have with the palomar. Quote
nastynate Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Dramer check out SFTtackle.com. Stuff comes quick. Also ***.com large selections. Check the tackle making formus on here there are some very talented people that make lures that might give you the edge on getting high pressure fish to bite. Quote
Dramer77 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 williamsport? d**n your close..lol wheres your fav place to go around here Quote
nastynate Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I really don't have a favorite place. I like trying new places i try not to get stuck on one spot. I fish the river mostly d**n 4,5 river bottom, tailors to snyders. Also the conococheague and antietam. I fish blairs valley alot because the dogs can run and play on the back side away from most people. Indian springs pond holds some nice ones. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 8, 2013 Super User Posted January 8, 2013 Is that near Hancock? I'm always looking to try new spots near me. Is it a sizable pond? What about the lake? Is it worth hauling my boat there to fish? Quote
