basser89 Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Well, the green light turned to yellow then red last evening so didn't get out then. Popped over to Black Hills at lunch time today at the tubes. Brought the flippin stick with me and some Sweet Beavers. I managed 2 in the hour I was there. The first one was a pretty cool scenario. I had made a cast out and was in the process of working it back in. Not even a quarter of the way in I catch some movement out of the corner of my eye, sure enough, I had 2 cruisers coming towards me right along the weed line. I hurried up and swam the Beaver closer, once I figured out where the bass were going, I swam it a little closer and killed it. Tick...... and the line starts to move! Caught the smaller of the two but it was still about a pound and a half. I love catching cruisers! With a few minutes left before I had to head back, I switched tubes and made a cast out to the one hole I know of out from the shore. The bait never made it to the bottom, set the hook and knew right away I had a better fish on. Nothing too impressive, just a 2 and a half pounder but she put up a great fight! That made her picture worthy! LOL! Quote
KenLattimore Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Finally made it out Saturday morning to Black Hills. Fished the backwash area, the tubes, the area opposite the tubes, and not even a hit. Finally went to explore a little and drove over to the visitors center. Caught a LM on the first cast, a nice 2 pounder on a Fat Ika that dove right into the slop. Decided to call it a day and headed home. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 31, 2011 Super User Posted July 31, 2011 Got back from New York yesterday, Black Lake is great had no problems finding fish. Once we figured it our a little better we had no problems catching 17 inch largemouths and 15 inch smallies to the point we just referred to them as cookie cutters. Caught two pike also, which were the first two I ever caught. Neither were huge, biggest was 26 inches. We caught fish on slider heads, frogs, jigs, spinnerbaits (yes Sean I thru one quite a bit), cranks, wacky rig senkos, carolina rigs. Probably forgetting some baits but it was a lot of fun. As Sean said, I am up for meet as long as it falls at a time I am not doing a tourney. Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I couldn't let us slip to the second page... So anyone fishing? Potomac, Black Hills, etc? Don't forget the meet/greet that is being set up. (another thread) -Peter Quote
wv Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Got a couple things here. We got out to our river spot last Sunday. I caught a nice little smallie on a Tiny Torpedo but nothing else. Made one last cast near dark and lost a Tiny Torpedo in a downed tree. We left then and I decided to come back the next evening and try our boat and cross the river to get the lure back along with two others we've lost over the last month or so. We knew we had a hole last year and fixed it. Put the boat in and lo-and-behold two more leaks appearred. I guess the original leak was so bad it covered the other two up. I start my vacation about 10PM tonight when I get off work so we should have time to do some fishing somewhere next week. Also looks like the meet up isn't getting much support...maybe Black Hills is too popular a spot We could always wait until next spring and maybe have it at a place like Middletown Park which seems like a nice place as well. Just a thought. Quote
301-fisherman Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I am down for the meet up. I will be heading to black hills here shortly...looks like rain, hopefully it will hold off! Quote
301-fisherman Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Hey all, got out tonight had no such luck. Will anyone be heading out aug. 10th when the park is opened until midnight? I have always said I wanted to go when the park was opened until then but never stayed that late. I will definitely be there hope others will too. Quote
KenLattimore Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Hey all, managed to get out this morning from about 7:30 to 11. Started out throwing a frog over by the visitors center, then switched over to a sweet beaver but no luck. After over an hour I drove over to the tubes. Switched over a Senko (with a little twist) and landed 4 four fish and missed two. The biggest was 17.5 inches, one a little smaller an two dinks. I have off this week so I expect to be out there every morning except Thurs. Quote
301-fisherman Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Hey fellas, managed to get out after work today. Landed one bass...about a pound...nothing impressive. Alot of fish were jumping tonight. Wednesday I will be out there late late late...midnight-ish. If anyone is out give me a holler Quote

basser89 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 alright guys...going night bass fishing for the first time ever. Any suggestions on lures/baits for night time. Any help is appreciated I prefer dark colored baits mostly. Black frogs, toads, buzzbaits, jitterbugs, spinnerbaits (usually a single colorado blade) and big worms. Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted August 12, 2011 Super User Posted August 12, 2011 Black Hills is getting into is tough to fish time frame, have a tourney there on Sept. 10th going to be a tough one. My tourney tomorrow is at Smallwood State Park, have an idea of what the plans are. Got some question marks due to the loss of grass, algae bloom, and water temps in the low 90's. Any update on the get together? Quote
basser89 Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Any update on the get together? I did start a get together thread, haven't seen a whole bunch of responses yet. Anyone interested in the get together that hasn't posted on the thread or needs to update with any information, please do! Good luck with the tourney this weekend Brian! Let us know how ya do! Quote

slaynbass365 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Hey guys, My name is Nick. I wanted to say hello to the MD crew as I am from Germantown and often go out to little seneca/black hills, clopper lake and out to the potomac as much as I can. I usually go out solo but always look for a partner or crew to head out with for some company. Anyways, looks like a good group here and i'd be honored to meet any of you some time. I am also looking to get into tournament fishing in MD or along the northern east coast if anyone is looking for club members or tourney partners. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 14, 2011 Super User Posted August 14, 2011 Welcome slaynbass365, there is a local club in germantown called fish on bass anglers (www.fishonbassclub.com). Great group of guys. Ifyou have any questions about it let me know. Quote
basser89 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Welcome to THE boards slaynbass365! Quote
basser89 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Hey David, keep posting those monsters! Congrats! I was able to get out fishing for a couple hours saturday morning, hit Black Hills again. With not much time, I decided to hit the backwash area for some froggin action. About mid-way through my outing, managed a dink on a spinnerbait. On my very last cast of the outing, I managed a 4lb 1oz surprise on a Spro Bronze Eye. Â Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Nice Sean... tough time of year, conditions and time of day. so a real good catch.. I think I am going to hit Black Hills on Sat. morning with my little one. Will get the boat ready even though I can use the gas motor.. but the 84lbs trolling motor should do ok... What time can I get in at? boat ramp wise? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 15, 2011 Super User Posted August 15, 2011 The gate is never locked at Black Hills, i have been on the water at 5:30 and wasn't the first one launched Quote
dcfdpipeman Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 OK, just thought you had to pay before launching.. Quote
basser89 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 OK, just thought you had to pay before launching.. There is a ramp fee (was like $5 the last time I put in there). There's a little mailbox type station set up with envelopes and a card. The cards and envelopes are numbered. Keep the card with you and put the money in the envelope and put it in the slot and you're good to go for the day. Quote
Fat Boy Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Sorry for not posting much lately. I'd be interested in a get together too. I'm just now getting back into the swing of things after a beach vacation without fishing. I did get out the day before we left for the beach, and again on Sunday, here is a brief write up and some pics: I haven't posted many pics lately, so I thought that I'd add a few. My buddy Howard and I been catching a lot of bass like these this year. I had one up against the bank a couple weeks ago that was huge, between 8 and 10 pounds most likely. I was climbing down the bank to lip it and it rolled over, the hook came out, and it flopped into the water. I was night fishing when it hit a buzzbait and went ballistic for several minutes. My personal best ever bass was over 7 pounds and 24" long. This one was easily that length, but much fatter, and by far the biggest largemouth that I've ever hooked. It would have been a nice picture for y'all, but alas, it wasn't to be. I know where she hangs out, so one year I'll get her, maybe this year. Still, that night wasn't bad, I got one that was about four pounds and several fish in the 18" range that night. Here are a few pics of our fish from that trip: Anyway, here are some from Sunday as we fished in torrential rain all morning long. We were soaked to the bone, but the fish were biting. I got 18 total largemouth Sunday, 12 were keeper sized, and 5 were this size and my buddy Howard did about the same including a few nice smallmouth. Quote
