Thank God for cameras or we would be driving past the house of everyone we know, honking the horn, and shaking some dead fish at our friends.

At first I thought that this was a friendly site. Sorry to offend anyone.

All fish pictured were, well, pretty ordinary and not worthy. That said, all were carefully released and not eaten (because I left my filet knife at home that night). And, I only honked my horn on I270 because a bumper sticker told me to.

I "think" you read Hellbender's post the way I did the first time. When I re-read it, he means that if we didn't have pictures to show our catches, the only way would be able to share the catch with our friends would be to drive around holding the now dead fish since its been out of the water so long, and beeping to get our friend's attention to show them. ;)

Fat Boy, yes its a friendly site. You were reading Hellbenderman's post way to literal. Basser89 is correct in his thoughts about showing friends our catches if we did not have pictures.

Hellbenderman, congrats again on the win this weekend. Beating the group of guys you did on the lower Potomac is a great achievement!!

OK, thanks for clarifying. Maybe I did take it the wrong way. I actually took it differently the first time, but the more I read it the more it seemed like it was directed at my actions

Normally, I take pics and post a report. But since I haven't been posting reports, I figured the pics would tell the story for the most (just that I've been out there fishing). I left out the reports because any info would be outdated and not useful to anyone. In my opinion, pictures improve the on line experience. I enjoy reading other peoples reports and seeing pics of their experiences so I thought that I could return the favor and post some of mine.

Also, I practice CP&R on almost everything I catch, and always for bass and stripers. I occasionally keep a few panfish on ice fishing trips in the winter for the table. I feel that I had to say that because of my own filet knife sarcastic remark.

HBM, if that's the way you meant it, as described above, then I apologize.

Fat Boy. No intent to offend. We all take pictures and show them. That's the point. Other wise, I'd have to drive up to Sean's and drive over to Brian's, etc. As for the tournament....sheeeesh...every dog has his day. I was stunned.

Thanks HBM. It was late the other night and I was tired, perhaps cranky and fussy too. I should have just got some rest and should have stopped trying to be analytical. I guess I turned out to be anal without the ytical.

Congratulations on your tournament win!

Fat Boy don't worry to much, I spend hours in a boat or truck going to tourney's with HBM and he still gets me hooked into his jokes sometimes. One of the reasons it is so much fun to fish with him, I know I will get into fish, and have a few good laughs along the way.

I kind of like the idea of leaving dead fish on your friends doorstep. I kid I kid. But I do catch and release everything but get frequently asked if I eat the largemouth that I catch. I ask them, have you ever seen Largemouth Bass on a menu anywhere? I assume they are not good eats. No I dont kill and eat every fish I catch. I dont catch enough to survive. Anyways.

I went out on the lower upper Potomac at lunch yesterday and can report nothing of substance. I was just north of Fletchers. The water levels and clarity were normal.

Thanks Brian.

I'm fishing Black Hills tomorrow...maybe I'll see some y'all out there.

I can't wait as I haven't fished in over a week now and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. You can only practice pitching and flipping in your back yard so many times...especially when the neighbor's cat isn't biting :P

I am down south in Waldorf. Fish mostly small ponds/lakes in housing areas. Other fisheries I have tried are Gilbert Run Lake and Saint Marys Lake without much success. I also fish Mattawoman Creek from time to time. So far I will take the small ponds/lakes over any other fishery that I have tried.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Dave Roberts today at Black Hills. We got an early start and it seemed like we might have a good topwater bite. Muskies were chasing panfish and bass were chasing bait along the shorelines. I started with a buzzer with no luck on that. Dave had a nice start after nailing a nice one on a topwater popping plug:

The early morning wildlife gave us a treat:

I tried a jerkbait without any hits and then fished a skirted bass jig with no hits. So, I decided it was time to finesse these bass and put some fish in the boat. It wasn't hot action, but the fishing was pretty steady all day. We found fish around weeds and wood along primary and secondary drop offs. My first decent bass spit up a crawdad:

I finished with 21 bass but 13 of them were dinks. No real big fish this time but the keepers that we caught (and released) were pretty chunky. Dave also caught a good many bass. We did boat several nice fish mixed in though, the following pics depict some of the fun we had:

Here we had some fun with this fish and the camera. The first pic is magazine style ;D

But here's a more realistic pic of how big this fish really was...only a 14 incher:

Anyway, I had a great time today, not just because the fishing was good, but the company was much better.

I haven't been there in a while, but I enjoyed the bass fishing there. The water these days is a bit lower than it was years ago, but the fish are still there. Most of the fish are on the small side, but once in awhile you can find some decent ones. I imagine there are some big ones to be found when conditions are right.

The good thing about the water being low is that there is more access to shore anglers. The bad thing is that there is a lot less woody cover than there used to be. Small cartopper type boats can get around pretty well. We used to use a Coleman Crawdad in there.

It also has crappie and bluegills if you like to catch panfish.

I go up to Big Pool sometimes with Basser89, he knows the place a lot better then I do. But we usually do pretty well for numbers but not a lot of size. Although there are some big fish in there they are hard to locate.

Fat Boy, looks like you had a good day on the water...nice work

Wish I could get out but stuck studying for a 4 hours test on Wednesday then heading to TN over next weekend. Won't get on the water again until my tourney on the 9th at Black Hills.

Hello All,

I'm new to bass fishing having gone out several times last year at Occaquan Resevoir on a friend's boat.

I've lived in Germantown for the past 2 1/2 years and just discovered Little Seneca at Black Hills a couple of weeks ago. This inspired me to buy a setup and start wondering around. I've gone out about six times since then, but have only fished topwater and only fished over by the boat launch mainly on the water separated from the main portion of the lake.

I've gone over this thread, and any helpful pointers or pointing in the general direction of where to fish would be great. For example, where's the stick up? and the bridge everone is referring to? Is Gunners Lake worth fishing? I don't have a boat so I'm restrcited to shore. I really appreciate you help and look forward to meeting some of you out there!

Thanks,

Ken

Looks like a quite a few people are catching some fish here. I've had trouble getting on the site the past couple of weeks. We've been out a few times with not much luck. I did catch about a 16 inch LM at Sharpsburg Pond last night on a Shakeyhead worm. We've been on the Potomac a few times at Rumsey Bridge near Shepeherdstown, at Dargan boat ramp and above Harpers Ferry Bridge. Only caught two small Smallies and a sunfish. Water in river is moving too fast for shore fishing(at least I think so). We really want to get our small jon boat out but I'm still a little leery of the current. We see a lot of small boats, kayaks and canoes near where we fish and they seem to have little problems so maybe it's my imagination. Maybe we can get out today somewhere...too bad that Black Hills is a journey...that's seems to be the hot spot.

Welcome to THE boards Ken!

More Great pics Fat Boy!

301, I don't get to Bog Pool often, but I always have a good time fishing there. Usually numbers but I've had several outings there where I've found the big girls in there.

Got out this morning myself for a few hours. Fished the back wash area again. Managed 5 small largemouths. 4 of them came on Red Eye Shads and one on a drop shot.

Who's fishing where this weekend? I heard hot weather is coming back, mid 90's on Saturday. Might be a good time to get in the water and do some wading.

I will be in TN, but did buy my license for the time I am there. There is a small creek within easy walking distance with some decent size smallies and largemouth. There apparently is also a pond which was stocked with trout a few years ago, may hit that for some fish to throw on the smoker.

YO, Brian...have a good trip. This really isn't about fishing, but if you are looking for something different to do on the 4th, come up to Frederick for the motor cycle races, the Barbara Fritchie Classic. It is a hoot and a real throw back to by gone days. Bring your tatoo. After the races you can drive to Thurmont and try your luck at the lake at Cunningham Falls!
