Sfritr Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Went out for the second time this season yesterday. Air temps in the mid 50s, water temps in the upper end of the lake 48.5 degrees. Hit lake points and shallower coves in every section of the water column trying to find fish. We tossed cranks, blade baits, jerkbaits, shaky heads, jigs. Nothing. Had one hit on a Gulp shaky head spot remover. We mainly fished the upper end of the lake as the temps were a bit higher. Marked fish suspended but could not get a bite. This lake is less than a mile from my house so I will fish it often this year. Looking for some more feedback on the lake Quote

DavidWH Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Sfritr - Do you fish any other lakes in the area? Just curious where there is some good fishing. Just bought a boat and would like to find some good spots. It is more of a ski boat, coverted to fishing with a fish finder and trolling motor... As long as it floats... Quote
Sfritr Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Are you from the area? Ceasars Creek would be my first suggestion because it is the closest lake around that part of the woods. Cowan lake can also be a good bet early in the day. With ALL of the local Cincinnati lakes, go early. You do not want to be at the ramp on the weekends around noon or late in the afternoon. Get there early and be gone before the idiots arrive. Quote

I've got a buddy who fishes there and does well. Birdy Quote
DavidWH Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks for both of your replies! I would need to get an OH license as well to fish Ceaser's. If that is one of the better lakes around I might have to try it out. Do either of you ever fish on the river? Quote
birdy Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I don't, if you try I would recommend going upstream off the main water, not really sure what you would catch.... Quote
Sfritr Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Brookville would definately be another place to go. Great lake Are you fishing from a boat or from shore? Wading or canoeing the little miami river is great for smallmouth as well. Birdy, Do you fish the local lakes? I grew up terrorising west chester. actually my sister still lives there. I almost bought a house there in Feb. but we chose Shaker run. Quote

I almost bought a house there in Feb. but we chose Shaker run. I mostly fish out my back door in my neighborhood. Three separate retention ponds with very little pressure, although there have been some additional fishermen lately. I have fished at Beckett Park as well with mild success. No boat so I shore fish except for an occasional trip down the Little Miami or a trip out to eastern Ohio at Senecaville Lake. Quote
DavidWH Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Will be fishing from a boat. Just purchased one last week. It is a ski but I am adding a trolling motor and fish finder to it. Just a beginner boat, but something I will be willing take around to various lakes. Might hit Williamstown lake this weekend. I have not heard much about the lake from a fishing standpoint, but the guy I bought my boat from is going to help me through pulling the boat, launching and putting it on the trailer. I am a rookie! Sfritr Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 My suggestion for practicing launching and trailering your boat would be: Do not "practice" on the weekends unless it is REALLY early or REALLY late in the day. From about 9am-6pm on the weekends you do not want to be practicing at the ramp. If you want to do that pick a week day or late evening when there is no ramp traffic. Boaters who practice at the launch on the weekends simply slow doan the process and frustrate seasoned anglers and boaters. With minimal practice, you should be able to get your boat launched in less than 6 minutes. I can do it in about 5 by myself. Good luck. Also, if you are practicing, make sure you are at a ramp that is fairly flat. This will make it easier to get the boat in the water and back on the trailer. Quote
DavidWH Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Thanks for the advice Sfritr. It is looking like this weekend is going to be my first trip and I know it will be busy... Might just leave the boat in for the weekend. Not sure how the layout is at Williamstown Lake, but at least I will have his help the first time. Quote
