Lot of shorts huh Paul? Is that typical there?

Any of you guys fish IL river down by Morris. Is it a waste to go for bass?

It's typical from now thru the end of summer. The bite gets tough, between the pleasure boaters, the weeds, the weed kills, and the pressure from tournaments, The tournament weights will take a 15-16lb bag to win in May. In July, 9-10lbs will win. Finding 4-6lb class fish after May is extremely difficult. Not impossible, just difficult. To be honest, I pull 1 maybe 2, 5lb class fish a year from there. I've done that on Delavan in a day.

I keep telling myself I'm going to fish SE Wisconsin lakes more often, but I never seem to get around to it.

basscatcher8 fishes those parts. He posts here.

Well Lake Elizabeth in Twin Lakes was disappointing today. We got only one 14.50" bass and 12 more all around 10 to 12". Also got one rock bass and 2 northern pike around 20". Very windy and hard to hold boat on the lake.  Maybe tourney day will be less windy and possibly better quality fish.

Good morning at Braidwood today.  Biggest fish were an 18" on a swimbait and a fat 17" bass on a creature bait.  Caught a bunch of smaller fish on a Ned Rig.  Caught somewhere around 15 fish.  Took out at noon when the winds really picked up.  Water temps at 85.  Last time I'll fish there till next September.

caught a bunch of bass, walleye and a couple of muskies. Good day all around Sunday- just not getting out to be able to fish enough...Big one of the day was a great fish though!

no...just mid 30's

maybe a follow by a 40 but for sure nothing bigger than that.  Did bring up quite a few fish however so it was an exciting time.  Headed back out Saturday for sure, maybe Friday as well.  Hoping this heat we are going to have keeps everyone else off the water on the lake I am going back to (no swimming, etc. in this lake).

you need to do what I did this year and not buy a chain sticker.  now I have no choice but to fish other IL and WI lakes.

Yeah.... but it's convenient. I've been to Delavan already and normally spend a lot of time walleye fishing on Lake Wisconsin and the Wisconsin River. I'm heading to Sturgeon Bay fathers day weekend. I want to start checking out the lakes outside of Milwaukee along with the Madison Chain, but for some reason I always end up back on the Chain. I've been fishing it regularly since 2004. I think I should try some evening and night fishing out there....and I will be out there tomorrow at the crack of dawn:)

I'm primarily an evening fisherman and I have terrible luck on the chain for bass.  Probably because the pleasure boats churn it up so bad during the day.  I dont know where you launch, but for me it's a pain to get to the state park to launch for free and if I'm going to pay a launch fee, I'd rather go to Wisconsin or Loon.  If I had a slip on the chain, it would be another story and I'd fish mornings.

I launch at the American Legion at the Rt.12 bridge. Ramp isn't the greatest but the annual launch pass is $100 and the money is going to an honorable organization.

Heres the big one for the day. Fishing was slow compared to last week. Thought it was going to be a great day. We caught 5 right away off the same point. The rest of the morning we'd get one here and there. 11 for the day 4 were keepers.IMG_20160611_071345623_HDR1.jpg

Went out to Lake Geneva today. My buddy fished there the last 6 days and the smallies are on fire. However there is a small window that has been working there and that is from 3:30 am to 5:00 am that's it. Anyway we were on the water on our spot at 3:30 am. We got 20 smallies from that time till 5:00 am and then they shut down like clockwork. I assume they just moved out. Anyway 15 feet of water with a 1/4 oz dropshot , 1/0 hook and a dropshot worm. Smallest was 16" largest was 19". Once they shut down we moved around, and picked up some largies, biggest was 17" on drop shot and jigs. Everything shut down at 9:30 am. We fished till noon with no fish after 9:30 a.m. Excellent day on the water.

I put a Spro 40 rat to work this afternoon. Picked up 4 fish and had my 5th blow it out of the water to the moon. No big gals but still a lot of fun. Bluegill were nesting all over the lake. I should have tied on a hardgill or alike but was having fun with the rat bite.

Here was the biggest.

Fished some new water this weekend. Found out I have a couple of rock quarry lakes about 45 minutes from my house. Took the kayak out and tore them up! Most of my fish came on a Ima Skimmer walking bait, which was kind of odd for the conditions. They were hitting topwater out in 10 feet of water! I've never fished water this clear, but it's a blast. I also sight fished a few on the dropshot.  It's trolling motor only, so I think it has a lot less fishing pressure than some of the bigger lakes around here.

Looks like a great day and a nice out of the way place to fish

Not an IL report but I am an IL guy.  Been fishing Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan the last week.  Been catching a lot of fish in the 15"-17" range.  Drop shot, 4" senkos, tubes, and spinnerbaits have caught all my fish.  Biggest bass so far was 5.0 lbs.  Caught this 4.4 lb smallie on a drop shot rig.

Liking the new rig? Hows it fish?

The performance is great and it is the ideal bass boat for these Great Lakes smallies.  Loves the way it handles the rougher water.  The longer fiberglass hull and SAS seat make for a very comfortable ride when running 2'-3' waves.  Great platform to fish out.  The Yamaha and Xi5 have been great too.

Fishing the kayak tournament?  Jacksonville is one of my favorite lakes in the state.
