Blizzard like conditions at my house earlier today.  weather has been all over the place the last 2 months.  Heading to florida this weekend, hopefully we'll get some more stable weather when i get back

Yeah...snow today and 60 degrees tomorrow. Go figure!

it's annoying that bass don't read the rules and behave like they're supposed to. 32 degrees this morning, so time to go slow right? so i try a 1/4oz jig with a chigger craw -- nothing, not even a bump. then i switched to a red/white chatterbait and bang, 4 fish in 30 minutes. like i've said, even if i would have gotten skunked, something just makes it less disappointing to get skunked with a search bait, as opposed to a slower presentation. at least i feel like i covered a lot of water. i do clearly recognize that this approach stunts my growth as an angler, by falling back on presentations i like more, or have had more success with, versus forcing myself to try new techniques.

the first fish is about as big as i've seen in this pond.

what do you guys think of the health of the second fish? it seemed to have a disproportionately large mouth, compared to its skinny belly. it fought pretty hard, and didn't seem particularly unhealthy. do you think it's a healthy little guy waiting to fill out? or a hungry one that is not eating well in the small pond?

Shoulda stayed home today. Snagged me a few gizzard shad and a crappie.  No bass to be found on the Chain. Pelicans were out in huge numbers today. I normally run across a few here and there this early in the year. There were multiple flocks with hundreds of birds.

Got my first topwater fish here of the year here in Central IL. Been killing them on a bluegill rattle trap and chatterbait too. Made a little video out of it.

How's the fishing up in northern IL been?

Clinton Lake.

water 52 by the plant, 63 party cove.

Fish are midway back in the coves for the most part, or staging at the flats on the mouths of coves.  All fish have been really fat...

fast moving jerkbaits on the flats and spinnerbaits/jigs moving to structure/cover in the coves.

Caught a couple nice ones in St. Charles on Wednesday with a 1/4 oz Jon Grahm Warrior swim jig in bull gill.

I used it a long time ago and had no problems with it. Good stuff but I prefer Berkleys Nanofil. I've been using 8lb on my spinning reel for a couple years now. Only issue is its slippery. I use a uni to uni to a floro leader. I've never had a knot come undone. I like the white so I can see it better.

just my 2 cents.

Spent the morning fishing Rock Run Rookery.  Temps 54-55 degrees.  Only fished 6:30-to a little after 11.  Slow bite.  Only caught a couple 15"-16" fish and a 13" bass.  I don't know why I don't fish there more.  It's such an easy 30 min drive from my house.

Fished Little Grassy a week back a had a couple great days.  So happy I have a 9.9 on my boat!
