bwell Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Very nice! I would say that's an awesome day on Clinton! My buddy tries to fish for strippers all the time at Clinton with no luck, do you just idle around till you find a school of shad in the middle of the lake and start tossing your swimbait and jigging spoon? My buddy tries to fish for strippers all the time at Clinton with no luck, do you just idle around till you find a school of shad in the middle of the lake and start tossing your swimbait and jigging spoon? Typically I will follow the old channel near the old pits as well as by the dam and then channel swing points in the colder end depending on wind direction. I will idle over the break lines from around 25- 15 and if I see them suspended off of it I wont even fish- if I see them more active and actually a bit into the shallower water with shad nearby, then I start fishing. Super User slonezp Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 A buddy told me today, walleyes are hitting bass baits on Delavan in 6-8fow. He caught 7 yesterday, 5 of which were keepers. Water has clouded up and now has 2-3' visibility and not 10+ like a few weeks ago. Quote
ProQualifier Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Do you live in the suburbs? Do you have transportation? Do you have a boat? I have a lot of suggestions. Pm me I can give you several clubs. Quote
ProQualifier Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Hi all. New to the site. I'm in Wauconda and looking for bass clubs in the area. No boat...yet. I fish a Southern IL bass club in the summer and the Newton winter series over the winter. Anyhow, the wife is about to strangle me for my 5-hour weekend trips to chase glory I NEED to find something close to home? Any ideas? Quote

Anglers Choice and Anglers Dream both fish the Chain and the river. http://www.actournaments.com/tdata/schedule2014.asp?Selectvalue=303 http://anglers-dream.com/ Ben Watts has a Wednesday night tourney as does Mutiny Bassmasters. Might be tough getting in as a non boater but it's worth a shot. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 5, 2014 Super User Posted July 5, 2014 Hit the Chain this morning. Not much to speak of. Caught (2) 2lbrs in 5hrs. Hitting Delavan in the am. Quote

They are more of a bass club that does draw tournaments. They are out of Round Lake Beach,IL. They fish mostly S.E. WI waters. PM me and I can give you a contact number. They are always looking for non- boaters. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 Slayed them on Delavan. Bite was red hot from 7:00 til 9:00 then it shut down once the sun started to come out. We boated 30+ bass and 1 snot rocket. My son caught most of the bass throwing a wacky rig. I caught the biggest ones flipping jigs. Think we caught 3 fish after 9:00. 3 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 Way to go Paul! Good fish Quote

I recall you saying the last time you were there you were going to rent a boat. We were coming off the water at that time. We flipped docks all morning on the southern end. Threw swimjigs but stopped because the pike were biting us off. At one point my son had 4 fish on 4 consecutive casts throwing a wacky rig. I'm not sure of the name of the color but it was brown with a chartruse tip. I was using Northstar brown craw jig with Rage Craw trailer in Alabama craw color. Once the sun started peeking out, it was over. We were the only boat flipping docks. Everyone else we saw was fishing deeper water. Quote
crankcaster100 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Maybe? It was a big pontoon I'm a big guy wearing a fluorescent green shirt with a black cap Was mostly in the deeper waters I wanted to hit the docks but my wife thinks the water at the docks is owned by the dock owners lol Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Went out on the evening of the 3rd and had a pretty good day going while my wife drank wine.... no big fish but would have at least brought 5 to the scale. After about 1.5hrs bass fishing she wanted to fish so we chased stripers for a bit and could not get any. She gets bored easy so we found some schools of white bass and caught maybe 50 or more- no idea really how many but enough to keep her with a rod in her hand casting. Two of the nicer bass of the day. All bass caught on swim baits and a 10'' rage tail thumper. I really don't like the rage line of baits- but had some in the boat that seemed to fit the bill for the limited visibility that the water had with all the runoff. 2 Quote

The pic of you holding the fish is that by the hump???? Looks like the first point on the west shore. Were you guys fishing docks with the wacky worm? I'll let you guys know how we do and hopefully take some pics. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 9, 2014 Super User Posted July 9, 2014 Southeast shoreline produced best. We picked up a couple smaller fish on the west by the hump as well as getting bit off a few times. Yes, wacky worm skipped under the docks and on the dock pilings. I flipped a jig or tossed a swimjig the entire time. A buddy of mine was there on Thursday and killed them on traps first thing in the morning on the flats outside of LLL. He said once the sun came up it died. Water clarity varies around the lake but, it's still pretty clear. I'd say 3ft on the north and 6-8ft on the south end. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 9, 2014 Super User Posted July 9, 2014 and if this means anything, there was a guy and kid dragging small suckers in 13fow where we were fishing. They caught more bass than the pike they were targeting. Quote

spartyon8 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Outboard Mechanic needed - Lake County, IL SE Wis 1986 Mercury 75hp Hopefully some of you IL guys can help me out here. I bought a boat from a friend and cleaned out the carbs, new fuel pump diaphragm, new fuel lines and filter as well as a complete lower unit rebuild (seals leaking). I am having one hell of a time getting it to idle correctly. I cannot get it to idle below 1,700rpms. I have done a link and sync but am stuck getting a good idle going. It either stays put at 1,700 or gradually revs up to around 2,500rpms. I have dissected this manual twelve ways from Sunday with no difference. All adjustment specs are spot on to the manual but I just can't get the idle down. I would like to stay away from Bass Pro Service center and Skipper Buds. I would prefer a mechanic who can take the time to show me or one who does work on the side as I enjoy anything with a motor and tend to think I am handy with a wrench. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 13, 2014 Super User Posted July 13, 2014 I've been using Wauconda boat for close to 20 years. They are Merc and Evinrude certified. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 13, 2014 Super User Posted July 13, 2014 I've got 3rd hand knowledge the IL smallmouth record has been broken @ 8lbs 9oz. Supposedly caught in front of Buckingham fountain. A lot of controversy surrounding the catch. Stay tuned....... 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted July 13, 2014 Super User Posted July 13, 2014 I know a taxidermist who knows a taxidermist who was asked to do a replica mount and has been in contact with the dnr. It's a C&R record which is apparently separate than an actual record. Lake Michigan creel limit is 1 bass over 21". An 8+ would definitely top 21". He's trying to get me pics Quote
