Bass are so sluggish this year. Downsize baits and slow things down. My best bites have come from practically dead sticking baits. My best 5 went around 15lb last night fishing from 10pm -12am. All caught slow rolling a chatterbait through grass, these fish are spawned out and want an easy meal.

Fished Tichigan Lake with a buddy of mine  on  5-3-2014 opening day in WI. Fished from 8:30 AM till 1:30 PM. Very windy 15-25 mile winds, water temp 48 degrees. Not a bad day for the both of us. I got 10 bass and 1 walleye. (2) 13", (2) 14-1/2", (4) 15 to15-1/2", (2) 16-1/2" and one 16 " walleye. The 5 fish in the morning all caught on swim jigs, remainder fish and walleye caught on jig/pig. My buddy got 8 bass and 2 northern pike. Bass were from 15-1/2 " to 17-1/2". Northern pike were under 24" His fish were caught on a chatterbait, spinnerbait and a shallow crankbait.

Bass are in full spawn on the Fox Chain. 17lbs took first in an open tourney today with 2 of the 5 weighing 5.5lbs each. My sons buddy came in 3rd with just under 14lbs.

The winner thought one of the bass was a carp doing circles for some reason. (was on a bed)  He cast to it and caught it.   Was his first cast of the day.  Fantastic!

Headed up to the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. Conditions sucked with heavy winds and crazy fast current. Worked hard and sorted thru a number of shorts to scrounge up some yummy delicious walleye and sauger. 55* water fishing 14-16fow. Big fish of the weekend was lost at the boat. Was a nice slot sauger. Second big fish was 19.5 sauger and third was 18.5 walleye. The other keepers were at 15". We also ran into some small smallies, drum, and a flathead. Jig and minnow, Jig and Gulp 4" minnows and jig and crawlers in 14-16fow

just not my year so far as I cannot seem to hardly even catch a bass over 3#'s.

Lack of time on the water is the main issue but hoping that changes here real soon.

Took me two days after two days of fishing in MO to figure out why my navionics East card was not reading properly...

I need more time on the water.

Well, at least ya'll are catching fish... Been out a few times but due to my sons travel baseball schedule and practice I haven't been on the water much and I'm afraid that won't change until the middle of July......

Heading to Delavan early on Sunday. A guy I know went this morning. He was flipping deeper water just outside beds he found. He claims 25 bass between 18"-21". I still haven't caught a largemouth this year.

Going to Long Lake on Sunday. Will post results on Monday. Haven't heard anything about Delavan. My buddy was out on Geneva last Saturday for a tourney. Lot of limits with all fish over 18". He got (2) largemouth at 19" and (2) 21" smallies.

Hey guys I'm fishing Delavan tomorrow afternoon through Monday morning from the shore at Lake Lawn

Fished Burnham Harbor this more for smallies

No bites.

I was throwing jigs / cranks / spinners on their bed and could not draw a reaction strike

Then my son accidentally kicked my spin rod / reel over the side (west wall about 200 yards from the north west corner) in case anyone wants a free wet 6' 6" St Croix with a pflueger president

:)

Ouch!  Sorry to hear that.  Kids have a way about doing these things.  I don't fish the big pond so I can't help with recovery.

He's only gonna be 5 next month and I didn't even get mad at him. He was fishing with it and he's awesome at casting and reeling.

Crap happens.

I was actually glad it was only a $160 set up gone and not a $300 + bait caster setup

Water temps 65-67 on Delavan and bass are spawning. Aside from some pike I caught, my son got the big bass for the day. A nice smallie and an even nicer largie. Bite was hit or miss.

Ok, so here is my Long Lake report. Got on the water at 6:00 a.m. Started my usual a jig, nothing going on, my buddy was throwing a spinnerbait nothing there. I tried a different jig color, nothing, different trailer, nothing, rattle trap, nothing, shad rap nothing back to a jig got a couple of pick-ups fish dropped the bait. My buddy went through several different lures and different presentation, nothing. About 9:00 a.m. my buddy decided to put on a Carolina rig. 10 minutes later 1st fish in the boat a 17" bass. Another 15 minutes and another 17" bass. So I decided to put on a Carolina rig. I rarely fish this if ever, so this is a new technique for me. Got her all rigged up second cast a 16"er  in the boat, about half hour later I got a 21" weighed in at 3 lbs 8 ozs. For the next two hours we slowly picked up fish after fish got a total of 12 bass that day from 16" t0 19" plus the bigger one. I am a very methodical jig fisherman, and I always catch fish on jigs. However, Sunday apparently the fish didn't like my presentation. They wanted nothing to do with it. What I noticed when I used my Carolina rig was that the bass wanted a free flowing more natural presentation and the Carolina rig was the ticket. Always learn something new when you go. Didn't take many pics below is the 3.8

Bite was slow. Bass on beds on both east and west shorelines. Water clarity is about 10ft or so. We picked up some 15"-16" in the bay on the northwest side on swimjigs. Both the fish in the above pics were pulled off beds. Caught some 24"ish pike on the east shoreline in 12-15fow and I lost a 40"+ pike or musky on the flats outside the boat launch channel. Bass were spooky. Long casts were key.
