You going to the Schaumburg show? I'd like to sit in on Mercer/Zona if I can swing it.  I was at the Ike seminar last year.

Last year I didn't see many deals at the shows like they used to. Everything I looked at in interest was still selling at retail pricing.

Probably. I did Rosemont last year because I was boat shopping. Looks like Schaumburg is growing and has a better lineup of speakers. Ike puts on a good seminar. I saw him a few years back at Rosemont. I like Zona. Don't know if I can stomach Mercer. Maybe he's different in person than on the show. He's too animated for me. Reminds me of Fish Fishburne

Stopped by at Schaumburg show. Not bad. Talked to plenty of reps about there products. Found some jerkbaits and medium sized cranks. Price shop first although most didn't carry to much of a selection with certain brands or choice of colors. Will be going back since im not finished.

Have some kind of problem and that's not having enough lures.

See ya'll there

Oh yeah.....The Man - KVD

I was told not to bother going. A guy I know said it took all of 15 minutes to walk the entire show. It's the smallest it's ever been. Head up to Schaumburg. It's at the Schaumburg convention center which is right near Woodfield mall.

Could you post a link to the website pertaining to that?

I'm from Woodstock, IL.    Fish mostly ponds and small lakes in McHenry County.    Would like to find some better spots.

New TV show well worth watching. It's called Structure Fishing on Comcast Sports Network Saturday mornings at 11:00. It's based on the teachings of Buck Perry. Caught the first episode. They were spoonplugguing for pike on the Madison Chain. Next week is white bass on the Detroit River. They are stressing deep water fishing education, rather than products(they are trying to sell products and seminars as well) Set the DVR.

Perch you'll want anything from UL to a Medium Light spinning set up on light line and gear. You could virtually use the same for smallies, but if you hook into a beast you'll have a heck of a fight on hand. The heavier your gear is for Perch, the less fun it will be, unless you're strictly looking for dinner and you don't care about having fun or not.

My father-in law has a boat in Burnham. I have never fished in the marina or just outside of it. We go trolling for salmon on his boat.  The guys I do see fishing the break walls and such, I rarely see them pulling anything up.  Maybe they don't know what they're doing or maybe it's just not a great spot.  Some one else might be able to shed different light on it for you.

There are huge carp in the marina so if you like that sort of thing, that's an option.  You can't fish inside the docks just so you know.  Good luck and post some results this year.

Check out the perch boards at chicagolandfishing, and chitown-angler. Guys use soft plastics, shrimp, soft shells, and minnows. The bait choice depends on the time of the year and water clarity. As far as smallies and rockbass, the rockbass will hit just about anything and will be mixed in with the smallies. Smallies and largemouth will hit spinnerbaits, swimjigs, cranks, jigs, and whatnot. There was a recent episode of timeonthewater where Frank Hyla was fishing in my secret smallie spot. I believe he archives the full episodes on his website. They were fishing by boat in Burnaham and Monroe. It's been my experience the smallies will be schooled up. If you catch one, throw back to the same area,
