Super User MarkH024 Posted January 18, 2013 Super User Posted January 18, 2013 Yea, Ranger R73. I think i'll keep it out of there. Too much to worry about and I've never navigated on that River so I'd surely take something out.I have thought about getting some waders. Just haven't done so. I prefer to fish in Wisconsin anyway. I don't fish around here that much, but being that I have two little ones now, that keeps me at home more now. Quote
29JMP29 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I've fished by the Carpentersville dam a few times. Never had a lot of luck there, so I fish down by Elgin more so. Managed some smallies and a musky at that spot. As far as ponds and lakes, honestly not a whole lot around this area. You can try Bode Lake on Bode Road in Streamwood. Most places in the area a slammed with people when the weather is decent. I have fished there a couple of times. The water was down low and you could walk out by the dam. I used jigs and caught walleye and smallmouth off the shore. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 Walk on Water Jan 26th CANCELLED ATTENTION: Due to circumstances beyond our control - W.O.W. has been cancelled. As some of you know, last night a couple of ATV’s went through the ice at Bangs Lake. While most of you were out fighting the morning commute - we had a small team of guys drilling holes working diligently to mark questionable areas so that we could continue with Walk on Water.Though their efforts were diligent, the Village of Wauconda pulled the permits for W.O.W.Between the ATV going through the ice and the news of a body being recovered at a nearby lake the Village made a decision on the side of safety. Though this is tough on us, we support it.We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will follow up with more details on this event and cancellation date . Thanks for your understanding. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 Many of you have seen notifications today via Facebook, text message, internet forum or word of mouth that WOW scheduled for January 26th has been cancelled. Hopefully this communication will help clear up some of the confusion around what has happened and what our next steps are:Here’s what happened:Last night, as some of you have seen or read, there was an incident on Bangs Lake where an ATV went through the ice and emergency personnel responded for rescue. Fortunately, this incident was not fatal…. Which is not to say that anyone involved with ALCF takes these types of events lightly. This morning, a group of WOW representatives went to Bangs Lake to determine ice thickness and identify a reasonable area to safely accommodate the WOW derby. We found significant deviations in ice thickness and were working to define a safe area to hold the derby.Shortly before noon today (January 25th) we were notified via phone call, and subsequently via written communication by the City of Wauconda that our Special Event Permit had been nullified. It was at this point in time that we made the decision to cancel tomorrow’s scheduled event. All of these events happened while I was either on the Lake, or in my vehicle. We cannot, for safety, insurance and legal reasons hold this event without a proper permit. What are we doing:We are working diligently to reschedule this event. The reason we hold this event is that we like to ice fish just as much as you do! Please have patience and we will keep you up to date as soon as information is available. It will take us more than a few hours to figure this one out.For those of you that preregistered, your registration will be valid for the rescheduled event. I would ask that you keep in mind that this is an event we put a significant amount of time, energy, and effort into organizing to support the Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund. Let’s face it…. Cancer sucks and ALCF exists to support families in our community that are in need of support. Our goal has always been to hold a safe event that helps benefit a great cause. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we sort out the details and work to reschedule the 9th Annual Walk on Water event. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 My son and his buddies made it out to Lasalle for the opener yesterday. It was slower than in years past, and they really couldn't find a pattern until 11:00. Here's a few pics Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 Nice. Looks like it turned out to be a good outing. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Since when is Illnois north east? I would think theyre in the Central forum! 1 Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 Mark, He said they caught 22 over 14" and a few dinks Good day on the water. Doesn't help my cabin fever any. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 Mine neither. I'm waiting for the Chain or Bangs to open so I can break in the new rig. There's a bass tourney on the Chain in 3 weeks. Not one of mine but if the weather stays the same there may still be ice Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 My buddy lives up by the Chain off the river. He sent me a flyer for a Fox Lake Fishing tournament on May 19th but it's multi-species, not exactly sure how it works. I'll consider it but I may be up in Wisconsin that weekend. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 Fox Lake Fishing has 2 tourneys a year. I have never fished them. They are points based for each species and family friendly. In addition to the info I sent you, there is 2 divisions of Anglers Dream which holds tourneys on the chain and the river. Entry fees are less, #of boats is less and payouts are less. 1 Quote
formula89 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Since when is Illnois north east? I would think theyre in the Central forum! I'll second that. Should be in central. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 1, 2013 Super User Posted April 1, 2013 Just a local ice update. Took the new rig on it's maiden voyage yesterday on the Fox Chain. I launched on Nippersink. Nippersink is completely open. Suicide Alley is open. Fox is iced over. Grass is iced over. Pistakee is about 50% covered, the main area is open but the east and west sides are still iced in. The river is open from Pistakee to the Mchenry Dam but channels are still iced over. Fished at the water treatment facility and hooked up with a large fish on a white Zip lure, probably a drum. One more bite south of there on a jig. Fished the riprap at the dam and called it a day. My sons buddies were fishing between Mchenry dam and Algonquin. 3 bites and landed 2 fish. 1 largemouth and 1 smallmouth, no size to either. Quote
