ChiCityBasser Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Fishing a tournament on the Kankakee on 7/15 near the Des Plaines conservation area this weekend and getting out on the lake at first light so we can be off the lake before the high temps hit. We'll see how it goes being out that early. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I talked with a couple people from my club today and they fished Clinton last week. They said there were tons of dead bass, one said he stopped counting after 25! I really hope this doesn't hurt the lake to much... Wow...i did not hear that...May run over there this weekend and check it out. That place was turning into a great fishery. Quote

I was going to make my first trip to Clinton this next weekend. I know it's a bigger lake and hopefully 25 bass were about the only ones to die but from the sounds of things, that seems unlikely. Someone please let me know if it has cooled down / is still worth the trip from the Chicago burbs. Feel free to message me but I will return to this thread...thanks Quote

Nice_Bass Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Anyone fish carlyle or Rend much- preferences? May take a 2-3 day trip down there to camp and not sure which to go to. Thanks. Quote
bwell Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I know Rend has some really nice size bass in it but they can be hard to catch... I don't know much about carlyle. Quote
SlappinKraken Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Hi all, I'm from Posen which is a south suburb of Chicago. I've been shore fishing for a while, but just got a kayak this past weekend. It's extremely fun and is a ton easier to locate fish. The pic is from powderhorn caught on a spinner bait. Caught a handful of northern, too, but no size to them. Anyone have other suggestions on where to take the yak? I'm thinking about learning wolf lake and busse. My main shore fishing lake was Heidecke but I can't take my kayak there. Trying to get as much fishing in before I start teaching again. -S Quote

bwell Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 We fished last weekend and the bass were on timber in 5-16ft of water on the west end of the lake. I would just hit up the coves with timber and pitch into it. My boater was using a t-rigged worm and I was using a shakey head. Quote

Nice_Bass Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Fished clinton on Saturday. Fishing was pretty slow actually- but only got in around 4 hours before i had to head to a different body of water. Anyhow, there was a fish kill there- was told around 1000 fish. I would assume a good number could have been stripers, but i also expect the fishing to be a bit slow. Hope i am wrong. Fish were on ledges a bit, but also some pushing up against wood as bwell stated. I threw a jig and trigged as well. Quote

I have a friend that lives in Calumet City so I pass through there a lot. Thanks for the tip. I actually just read a forest preserve report that says the walleye in Tampier are pretty big. I haven't fished there since I was a kid. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 31, 2012 Super User Posted July 31, 2012 New to the site, another fellow IL fisherman. I do fish mostly in Wisconsin but I get out around the Chicago land as much as I can. Looking to hook up with a BASS club next year possibly. Quote

draggin Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 i noticed the talk bout a fishing club, whats the rules for these, do you have to have a boat, be so good or what. wanted to join 1 for awhile now Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 How your 1st year going so far? The 1st year has been a learning experience to say the least. I've had a 9,10 and 11th place finish in some events and others I've drawn a zero but have caught fish just not the length needed. Learned some new techniques such a C-rigging and finally able to get and use some deep diving cranks as well. Learning about boat position and reading the imaging screens as well. All in all it has been a good season as far as "My" goals but its been rough at times as well on those days when you get "no" hits and second guess yourself and your skills but sure everyone goes through those things. Looking forward to my next two events with one on Lake Springfield and the other on Lake Shelbyville as the season ending event. Quote

As far as skill level, If you can afford the entry fee, that's all the skill you need. There are dozens of bass clubs in IL google "bass club" or "bass tournaments" with your location and you will be directed to a list of clubs. Go from there Quote
bwell Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Has anyone fished Shelbyville lately? We have a tourney there this Sunday and are looking for ideas on where the fish might be on the lake. Quote
NILBasser Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Anyone know what the water temps are on Braidwood? Got a tournament Sept 2 and hoping to get a jump on finding fish so I'm planning on a trip this week. Anyone been out? Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Last 2 times I was at Shelbyville it took 15lbs and 10lbs those events and fish were caught on the rip rap near the dam on a wacky rigged worm and on squarebill cranks along the rip rap near the bridge. Some were also caught deep on a C-rig with green pumpkin and a small touch of jj's on the end of a craw. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Anyone fished lake springfield lately? Got a 2 day event there are the end of the month and wondering how to fish it and where the fish migh be or is fishing deep the best option. Thanks Quote
