grapejuice Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 grapejuice, There has been sporadic rainbow action thru the ice in the harbors on the northside. Guys picking them up on spawn or cooked shrimp. Ah alright thanks, im kinda looking for more of when all of this ice melts away. I know the st. joe has nice rainbows but its a bit out of the way. Tom H. Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Don't know if any of you guys are around my area, but there is going to be a tackle show in Elmwood on March 5-6. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hit clinton on Saturday. Over 50 fish total- mostly 3-4lb wipers and a few nice bass. You guys should take advantage of this lake while you can... Quote
Fishmaster10 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Very nice! I will definitely be giving clinton a try soon Quote
Fishmaster10 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 @ nice_Bass were you fishing from shore or a boat when you went to clinton? Quote

You got to share your secrets, I can hardly ever muster up any fish in that lake... Clinton always has the lowest weigh in with our tourneys. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Fishing from a boat. That day stuck most of them just south of the bridge that leads to the hot water discharge. The channel runs straight out of the west bridge area, and swings close to the west shore. All the fish came off about a 300yrd section along that shoreling. Water was about 58-60 Bass came off jigs, all wipers came off a 1/2 oz rattle trap or small spinner bait. I am always able to catch a limit from Clinton. I actually think it is the best lake around! Summer is easy- follow the river channel and fish nearby points. Works every time. Spring...well, not so easy as they are just so spread out with the temps. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Trying to attach a bad picture phone pic- but we kept a limit of wipers for the freezer Quote
Fishmaster10 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Wow you guys sure sleighed the wipers Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Wow you guys sure sleighed the wipers Let anything go above 18" of course though... it was a blast. Quote
bwell Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Thanks for the info nice bass! I will have to try that. Quote
Tom H. Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 Anybody going out this weekend? Went to Oak Run crappie fishing last night. We did fairly well. Water is still on the cold side at 40.6, but it beat sitting in the house. I think we are going to head to Banner Marsh and do some bass fishing this afternoon. Quote
zero limit Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Rumor has it Browns & Coho are entering the harbors on Lake Michigan Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Zero their catching a few 'hos from shore but word is limiting out trolling along the IL/IN border Anyone get to Lasalle for the opener yesterday??? I'm heading out tomorrow. The few reports I've heard was a slow day on the water. Plus for now gates open at 6:00 and close at 1:00. I guess the "gatekeeper" retired, and no one is being hired to take his place, so the DNR is working with a skeleton crew. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 So, work is slow this week. I figured I'd take the day off. Arrived at Lasalle at 5:15 this morning. 2nd car in line!!! Miracles do happen. Water temp at the ramp is 52 degrees. Not sure about the discharge but we fished in 73-77 degree water. My son started jig fishing this year and stuck his first fish of the season. Not a big one but the first. He's still sleeping. LOL I followed that up with my first of the year. Another dink caught on a Whopper Baits Boxing Craw on a 1/4 oz shakey head jig. We proceeded to pick up a few more dinks but action was slow. I put on a golden shiner spinnerbait from Northstar Jigs and Wham!, landed this girl. not huge, but about 2lb. My son immediately put on the new KVD square bill in Sexy Shad and game was on. He started hooking fish after fish. After a couple short strikes on the spinnerbait I followed suit and put on a Bomber Model A in silver with a black back. My first crankbait fish was a 4lb striper. I named him "Dinner" We proceeded to fish until 12:30 and caught roughly 50 largemouth, the largest being close to 3lbs on the sexy shad. 20 cats the largest being 3lbs, and the one striper. There may have been a total of 15 boats out there today. We had the lake to ourselves. Rumor has it a shore guy landed a 5lb smallie. Here's a couple more pics. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted May 9, 2011 Super User Posted May 9, 2011 Isn't anyone fishing? Ice has been gone for 6 weeks. Here's a couple from Mothers Day. Caught on the Fox River in Carpentersville. Got 'em both on weightless t-rigged Yum Dingers in watermelon red flake. Nothing huge. They were both 14-15" and appeared to be males. Got them within 15 minutes of each other and not another bite afterwards. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted May 16, 2011 Super User Posted May 16, 2011 hey nice fish sloanzp! ive been fishing in local tournaments on this private lake subdivision i live in. ive caught a few fish so far this year enough to put me in 4th place twice and caught PB last friday. im a nonboater so its hard for me to get out and experience different lakes but i have success in the one i fish. WTG! I like your signature. Conditions have been tough and it's been a good jig bit this year. That bass in the above pic was a jig bite and picked up a 3.97lb today on the same jig. I missed BB though to a 4.20lb. No pics today. Didn't bring the camera because of rain and Deadliest Catch like conditions on the water. Let me start by saying today was by far the worst conditions I have ever fished on the Chain. The wind never let up. It had to be blowing 25-30mph and I'm sure there were gusts up to 40. We were listening to tree trunks cracking and branches blowing off trees in the protected areas, and in the open water on Fox and Pistakee had to be 4-5ft rollers with water coming over the bow and sides of the boat. Anyway about the fishing. My son and I get to our first spot and he sticks a 3pounder before I get my line in the water. Within a half hour he sticks a short, I stick a short, then I get a 15.5" fish with a monsterous head like a 4 pounder, but it was only 1.5lbs. We're thinking it's gonna be a real good day today. Well the bite was non existent after that. Hit a second spot. Nothing. 3rd spot he sticks a short. Next spot he loses a short at the boat and I boat a freakishly ugly sunfish type of fish. Bright orange belly and a mouth like a rockbass(Any ideas what is was?) It's now about noon and we have 2 hours to weigh in, and getting kind of anxious. Next thing you know I set the hook on my jig and BAM I got a pig. The last bite of the day. We brought 3 fish to weigh in for a total of 8.41lbs Good enough for 6th place and a check. The pig was 3.97lbs and I lost to big bass which was 4.20lbs. It was a 37 boat field. 1st place was 11.95lbs. There were only 3 limits weighed in today. Only 8 goose eggs weighed in which is an improvement over the last 2 tourneys. Quote
BassAssassin85 Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Well seems like you were doing alright in the tourneys with the conditions given. The lake i live on we live on weve been struggling to get full bags too. There is always one or two guys that find them and few weighed in, and then a ton of blanks lately but its pretty hard to fish the way you want when your getting those winds and weve had them every single tournament this year. that fish your talking about im wondering if it is a war mouth? congrats on the 6th place finish sounds like there was some good competition. my buddy partner just moved out of our subdivision so my buddy tournaments have been cut out of the year unless i buy a boat soon but well see about that. well good luck to you Quote
Tom H. Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 Well, Can't say I've been doing much bass fishing lately, but here are a few pics of how we spent our morning. We took about 20 kids fishing this morning and I'm pretty sure that the majority had a good time. Quote
