Skunked again Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Lake cleanup Day. Highland Silver Lake, Highland, Il. April 24th, 8-12. Any questions, let me know. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 FYI. I went to the currency exchange to transfer the trailer title on the boat I just bought. Boat trailer transactions now have to be done at the DMV. The girl at the currency exchange didn't have an answer as to why. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 27, 2021 Super User Posted March 27, 2021 $305.00 for title and plates. Couldn't even get a real plate, only temporary. The trailer title is from 1980 and not in the system. Had to fill out paperwork that gets sent to Springfield. I paid $400 for the boat and trailer and paid $333 in IL corruption fees just to make it legal. 1 1 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 The smallies are in the harbors if any shorebound fisherman are looking for some fun. 3 on a spro hair jig, biggest 3.5lb. 1 on a 3" dark sleeper, 4-4.5lbs. 31st harbor for me today. scott 1 Quote

I was considering getting a little tin boat for the forest preserve lakes but I'll stick with my kayak and the bed extender on my pickup. While I am not one to endorse illegal behavior, I would completely understand if a fella had a couple trailers to just swap the plate to whichever one he was using. 4 Quote

Looks like governor fatty has found another way to get in our wallets! Just bought my Indiana license and it was $3.98 in processing fees. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 3, 2021 Super User Posted April 3, 2021 The fee was $2.00 at Cabelas for a license and trout stamp. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 4, 2021 Super User Posted April 4, 2021 The state of Illinois wants $236 to renew the plates on my two boats. I’m leaving Illinois for good in just a few days so I won’t be paying the price. I understand the need to collect fees to keep the state running, some, are just excessive. 3 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted April 4, 2021 Super User Posted April 4, 2021 Nope. Back to Indiana where I’m originally from. Real estate taxes are over $5,000 a year less for a house that is worth more than the one I’m leaving. Insurance is a lot cheaper too. 4 Quote

At the time, property tax was nearly $5k a year in IL. Got a similar home in IN and even 11 years later my property taxes are just over $800 a year. We were in Cook Co. and when we moved, the county literally charged us a $1,000 fee for leaving the county! Disgusting! How the heck can you legally charge someone to move away? Almost 20 years ago I lived in Missouri. I had moved from a small duplex that we sold for $116k in IL. It was a 900 sq ft 2 bdrm duplex...the house we got in MO was 3,300 sq ft on an acre of property for $89k! Our property taxes in MO were just over $300 a year! LOL 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Is something wrong at Braidwood? When I got to the launch at 6:15 on a nice Saturday morning there were 2 trailers in the parking lot. I was stunned how few people were there on a nice Saturday in April. I know the fishing has been tough compared to previous years and a lot of people are pointing at last year's fish kill but I was still surprised. I had a decent day but things are still slow out there. Caught some nice stray catfish which were fun. Quote

Check out all the previous tourneys there, but 5lbs seem uncommon and not too rare. https://www.anglers-dream.com/copy-of-2020-div-23-braidwood Oddly, I never fish for bass there, have too much fun with catfish and bluegills. Even LaSalle has some giant bass there including smallmouth, but again, too many other species for me to target them and wipers scream out the drag. Also, catfish 10+lbs on medium heavy bass rods? Not fun, arm felt like it was on fire after a few. Say hello if you see me out there, probably only guy in Illinois (or most states) with a Crestliner Bass Hawk which are super rare it seems. Michigan boat plates, I am not screwed by the Illinois boat or trailer license fees. Yay planning! 1 Quote
Jig Rookie Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 They're finally (for me) starting to come up in my waters in Northern Illinois, getting em to eat the jig and a t-rigged D-Bomb. 7 Quote
Jig Rookie Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Watched this one eat a weightless t-rigged D-Bomb under a laydown. Think I'm gonna give it a go overnight tonight, temps in the 60s and winds up to 20. Hopefully they're moving up! 7 Quote
Jig Rookie Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Yesterday was perfect weather up here: mid-70s, southern gusts up to 20, storm front moving in. There's a tiny, maybe half-acre pond in front of my church and my pastor told me there were fish in there so I decided to give it a go. Turned out to be a gem--six fish in about 40 minutes, these were the biggest few. Sometimes these side-of-the-road spots can really produce. 5 Quote
cdlittle Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Beautiful fish! Yesterday was a skunk on bass for me. They seemed tight lipped after the rain the night before. Caught some real chunky warmouth. 2 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted May 15, 2021 Super User Posted May 15, 2021 Went to my favorite panfish lake this morning with dad. Water 60* and very low. We need rain!!! Not a lot of size to the fish but we probably caught 50 in 4 hours. Took home (2) 9" gills for lunch. Gills are staging. Bull males don't have their spawn colors yet. The male pumpkinseeds on the other hand were in full on spawn coloring. Didn't see any bass, didn't target them. No crappies to be found, just gills, pumpkinseeds, and perch. 4 1 Quote
