Ice is gone up north. Picked up my grandson and did some recon of some potential shore spots. Took him to BPS to check out at the fish tank. Spooled up the reels yesterday. Going to try and get out with him next weekend to do a little crappie fishing even though his heart is set on catching catfish.

yeah I know, just pointing it out. I'm keeping my boat in Wisconsin now, so I might transfer the trailer registration

I would like to be able to do the same. Have heard of several people registering under out of state families name, or switching plates, if they have more than one trailer.

What our state did should be illegal !!

I could understand raising the fees, even on an annual basis, as long as it's reasonable.

His intentions were to take more money from businesses generating revenue from the trailers. Recreational (RV) trailers still have low renewal rates. Unfortunately boat trailers are not considered recreational trailers.

that extra $1.74 really got you upset?  Now if you really want to complain, the trailer fee went from $18 to $118

anyways... I caught my first bass of the year.  a little 12 incher on the ned rig

It is not just the amount, it is the continuing gouging of the taxpayer in this state! Every time that I turn around it's something else.

If it makes you feel any better, Michigan increased their out-of-state licenses to $76 a couple years ago.  Now, they have a launch pass that is for all DNR launches that is $35 or so a year.

I am just numb to cost increases.  I pay it, go about my business, and don't let it get me angry.

Y'all need to come to MN. Annual out-of-state license is $51 for individual, $68 for family...and no launch-ramp fees.

Its pretty absurd how reasonable it is to fish here, as a resident or non-resident.  The DNR and counties do a pretty darn good job of maintaining our access points too.  Plus there's like 10,000 lakes and miles of river to choose from.  Honestly I wish they would raise the price of non-residential licenses though.

I pay $13 for an individual conservation angling license.  IMO that is a ridiculously low cost to fish twice a week for 6 months straight.

I get the regular license with a trout stamp - and even that $35 is reasonable.

I agree.  Our fishing license in Illinois is very reasonable as well ($15) and many boat launches are free.

well we had a chance to fix it and the voters turned down the graduated income tax.  once the pandemic is over everyone's taxes are going up, just wait

I respectfully disagree, on the part that we had the chance to fix it....IMHO - that wasn't a good remedy.

They're not even waiting for it to be over. Saw on the news tonight, tax increases are coming, on a federal level. I have no doubt our state will follow suit .

It was determined last week, IL is the most taxed state in the US. They combined income, sales, property taxes etc.

Can’t even get a license down here. I checked four places. They all said they have had problems with IDNR since last year. Oh, but you can get one online for a small fee. BS! Sounds like a scam to me.

OK what is your remedy then?  Hope for a federal bailout or they allow a State to declare bankruptcy?

I suggest you get back to talking about bass fishing in Illinois which is the subject of this thread.

My apologies.

I respooled some reels last night, used a water bottle and a drill to strip the line. Pics for reference. Worked pretty good, just be careful when you get to the end. If the drill is still going, the reel will be heading your way!

I later added washers on either side of the cap.

Well, you outsmarted me.  I've been doing this for years but my bottles wobble because I use a drywall screw or similar through the top.  I'm stealing your specialized anti-wobble bolt!

Shush now! ?? Between Wisconsin and Minnesota I think I pay enough. Remember...it's non-resident, so just think of the amount of time we spend on the water vs. a resident. I get up to MN maybe 3 times a year if I'm lucky for about 3 days of fishing each.

BTW, on topic, I plan on hitting some hidden gem retention ponds in IL this weekend. I know one of them has a couple of 6 lbers in it. A lot of the ponds took a big hit about 5 years ago with the harsh winters. One pond in a sub-division my friend lives in had giants! He pulled a 7.5 lber out of it one day. That winter though...100% kill. Could have been avoided too, but they failed to maintain the aerator and all was lost. It had some of the biggest bluegills I have ever seen in it too. You could barely fit them in your hand. What a shame! ?

You are so right. If you find the right retention pond it can be a killer of a day!

Going to try some in my area this weekend.

Every time I get frustrated and angry with IL and its finances I remember this graph, because it reminds me that this is a nation wide problem many decades old, and I feel worse.
