Super User slonezp Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 Forgot to mention. Saw a couple bald eagles today. There used to be some resident eagles that disappeared years ago. Maybe they are back. Quote
Skunked again Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 I wanted a project boat, sold mine to have the money to work on it. It's all good ! 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 Fished West Loon today from 6 to noon. Water is high, 55*, under a no wake restriction, and the launch pier was under water which made for an interesting launch. We were the first boat to launch and we fished near the ramp while waiting for my dad to show up. Caught 1 bass and 2 snot rockets in the interim. Watched the first boat after us struggle. Was a kid and his dad. Boat got turned around sideways. They eventually got out and puttered across the lake. My dad showed up and we had to figure the best way to get him in the boat because there is no way he could have climbed in had I beached it. He was able to hold onto a tree and climb onto the bow via a rotted wood seawall. The seawall had rebar sticking out of it so my son and I had to hold the boat close enough for dad to get in and far enough so the boat wouldn't get damaged. Next boat is launching and I turn around to see the boat that puttered across the lake had puttered back. Water is pouring out of the bilge. I assume they left the drain plug out. We got to fishing. It was fast action and then nothing for long periods, and fast action, and nothing.... Jerkbaits and swimjigs caught all but 3 fish. Ended up with 7 largemouth and 10 pike. 3 Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 What’s the launch fee on Loon and is the channel to East Loon open? I havent fished there in five years or more, but liked fishing it early in the year. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 Its 20. And they opened the channel a few years back. Quote
cadman Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Fished Loon Lake years ago when Sturbenzes had a bar/restaurant on it. Now I believe it was sold to the State or DNR. Ramp and launch used to be good it hasn't been good (or questionable) in at least 10 years. Good lake for bass though. I fished Tichigan Lake in S.E. WI last weekend. Team tourney, so each boat was allowed 6 fish. We got a 17" and 16" bass and my wife got a 40" pike. Couple boats came in 6 fish biggest weight was 19lbs. Big bass was 5.2 lbs Lake produced some nice fish, but we couldn't find them. We also got stuck on a mud flat for awhile. Water was high and I couldn't see the buoys. We did manage to get out. Found out 4 or 5 other got stuck including some guy in a pontoon. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 The restaurant/bar is now someones home. Quote
JWall14 Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 Hit up a local pond today. I had a few bites (one which nearly took my rod out of my hand!) between me and my brother but no fish landed!! I am really feeling like my first fish of the year will be soon! I will likely hit up either the Kankakee river or Dupage next weekend. It’s finally supposed to be 80 degrees and I’m ready for a good day of fishing! Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 25, 2019 Super User Posted May 25, 2019 Bite before the storm. 37 bass in 3 hours. Biggest 5 were roughly 14-15lb bag. 5 minutes after we go off the lake the skies opened up and it poured. 5 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 27, 2019 Super User Posted May 27, 2019 My favorite panfish lake didn't disappoint today 3 Quote
Glaucus Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Just wanted to say we have bass on beds in my parts (an hour and a half south of downtown Chicago). Hadn't seen it yet until today. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 28, 2019 Super User Posted May 28, 2019 Headed north today and hit Delavan for a few hours. Water is 65*. Wind out of the north. Fishing was tough. Ended up with 5 LMB and a rock bass. Biggest was 3lbs 1 Quote

Glaucus Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I'm done waiting on my river to be fishable. I fish the Vermillion River all around Pontiac and well outside of it, all around Humiston Woods, etc. It's still extremely flooded chocolate milk with no signs of stopping anytime soon. How are the other rivers up north? Kankakee is supposedly still pretty bad too. I need my Smallie fix. Got to find me a fishable river. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 31, 2019 Super User Posted May 31, 2019 Anybody else get the letter rom the State of IL that they inadvertently uploaded all our watercraft registration information including full name, DOB, gender and SS# to a public portal for the whole world to see...on 2 different occasions? Gotta love this state we call home..... @Glaucus Fox river is closed to boating south of Algonquin dam. 1 Quote

Skunked again Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 So they screwed up, you have to take action. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 1, 2019 Super User Posted June 1, 2019 Caught a ton of bass this morning on the Fox Chain. Water is 71*, it's real high and under a no wake restriction. No size to the fish. Think 1 was 2-1/2, a couple 2's and a ton of short fish.Best 5 may have weighed 10lbs. No rain on the radar when I left. We were interrupted by a storm, ran back to the dock and sat in the truck for 1/2 hour waiting for it to pass. Then front after front passed thru with the temperature fluctuating between 75* and 65*, wind then calm, wind then calm, sun then a wall of clouds, sun then a wall of clouds. I've never seen so many consecutive fronts pass before and so many "pop up" storms appear on the radar. Pretty wild. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 Another state of IL snafu. I washed the boat today and noticed my registration expires at the end of the month. Tried to renew online, my registration doesn't exist. I call the DNR line. She asks for the same info the website asked for and says my registration doesn't exist. I have to call another division next Tues-Thurs to see if they can find it. Morons.... Quote

Super User slonezp Posted July 1, 2019 Super User Posted July 1, 2019 Anybody been out? It's been a little slow, and last weekend was all frogs. I fished deep and shallow with water temps ranging from 76* to 83* Frogs in lily pads caught every fish. The week prior, we were catching buck bass guarding fry, but not much else. My kid did get a nice pike 1 Quote

FordsnFishin Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Been a pretty solid year so far. Few 1st place finishes, several 2nd place. Big bass for the year is 5.36. Fish are done spawning here. Summer patterns are starting to take effect. Frog bite has been hot. Literally every tournament for this past month has been awful storms. Some we probably shouldn't have been in. 3 Quote
