Robert Riley Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Prefished Vermillion today, talk about a tough day. Flipped chocolate milk all day, no visibility what so ever. They werent biting anything, the three of us threw jigs, plastics, spinnerbaits, squarebills, chatterbaits and a buzzbait. Water has cooled down to 65, so im guessing they're in that awkward post spawn phrase. 1 Quote
Jartbek Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Lake was a mossy green. Sun was shining no clouds. Used neon green strike king buzzbait, black red spinner bait, black/silver scatter bug shad, Texas rigged Crawdad, Blueberry, Electric Blue Culprit worms 2/0 offset hook. Caught nothing. 2 Quote
mbtharp1 Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Happy to say my friend and I placed 3rd out of 27 boats on Lake Decatur tonight. It was a tough day, but I can't complain about 3rd place in my first tournament It's nice being in the money! 1 Quote
liquid_30 Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Anyone looking for a Non-Boat owner tournament partner? Im located central IL near Pontiac. fished 3 tournaments total, won 2 did well on the 3rd. Quote
FordsnFishin Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 All this rain, then hot weather has caused rough fishing. Finally picking up. Tournament tonight, caught 9 fish. All were 1-2 inches short of keeping. Got to love it. Another Saturday, maybe I can get things going then. 1 Quote
toni63 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Catch of the Day. Local pond, baby brush hog in green. Flipped it next to moss and a little scrub bush at the edge of the water about 3 feet in front of me and pulled this out. 4 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 16, 2017 Super User Posted June 16, 2017 Guys/gals My dad was given the task to organize some fishermen to help teach kids to fish. If any of you have nothing going on August 12th and feel like helping some kids just north of the cheddar curtain, here's your chance. His contact info is at the bottom of the post. Thanks for reading Fellow Sportsmen & Sportswoman: Would you want to help our youth put down their electronic devices and enjoy an opportunity to participate and enjoy the great outdoors. If so, please consider volunteering for a unique program on August 12, 2017. All of the information can be obtained by googling "Youth Day - Game Fair". The Conservation Heritage Education Foundation ( a 501(c)(3) tax exempt entity) is presenting Youth Day - Game Fair on August 12, 2017 at the nearby Halter Wildlife Conservation Area, 9626 113th St.,Pleasant Prairie, WI. Our program is focused on Youth from 5 - 15 years old and requires parent involvement in order to participate. The program has six segments and I am coordinating the Fishing, fly Casting, etc. portion. Our real need for volunteers to assist the youths in learning how to cast using a Spinning combos, bait casting combos, and Spin Casting combos, and sharing your experiences on handling issues which are encountered on the water. In addition, volunteers will get a free BBQ lunch. If you are interested, please call or e-mail me. Sincerely, James J. Matousek CPA Cell: 847-727-1888 jim@newvisioncpagroup.com 2 Quote

Jartbek Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Anybody from the effingham area looking for a co angler for fun trips? I just started fishing this year and been interested in boat fishing but mainly been bank fishing. Quote
mbtharp1 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Went to Shelbyville this past weekend and caught 3 around 3-4lbs and 2 others around 15". Starting to figure out how to fish deep and it's starting to be really fun! 1 Quote
Jartbek Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Yeah it is went to Newton yesterday caught my first jig fish. 2 Quote
mbtharp1 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Jig fishing took me a lot of time to get used to, but once you get confidence in them it's worth it. My fish on Shelbyville came on a square bill early on, then a 6xd and a 10" worm later in the morning. Ive been wanting to get down to newton and fish some deep cranks! My boat is only 25hp so it's nice to be able to fish limit lakes. 1 Quote
Jartbek Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Well if you ever come down and want a co angler let me know Quote

I have had some success going up the hot water arm on hot days throwing deep cranks when the majority of boats seemed to be up the cold water arm doing their thing. I just like getting away from the crowd. Mind you, with all the changes in discharge and them shutting down partially, I'm certainly not up on how it is now. Last time I was there was last summer. It's still producing good bass but the bass population has taken a hit. Quote

The jig is the way to go at Newton in the summer I get on the points with a 3/4 ounce jig and that's the best way to catch the keeper size fish. The Texas rig and deep cranks will get better numbers but usually not as many keepers. 1 Quote

It was a blast though best trip I've had in awhile. 2 Quote
